This question for those who were not at the game today, or who were at the game but didn’t hear this comment as the ex players paraded around the ground at half time with the 1254125 banner.

In the whole 125 years of unbroken and continuing history of Celtic, which player has played under the most managers?

  4. FAVOURITE UNCLE

At the top of the page it explains about updating the site causing problems. Logging in cured the probs for me.

    How are you my friend?

You are among the most exiled of the exiled Tims!

    :0)

Hope you and your beautiful wife are in good health and happy.

    SwanseaBhoy……….

Thank you for the kind thought; we are both well, as we hope you and Mrs SB (and the dogs) are too..

And the offer still stands, should you wish to detour whenever you decide to make your discussed sojourn………

Brief chat with C1st on here on my return. He is a good man eh!

Should be back home for a fortnight or so mid September to attend a couple of CSC functions that I am committed to but would think that visits back thereafter will be few and far between……

We’ll see, anyway, my friend, good to hear that you are back in the Dear Green Place (for now).

    Enjoy and take care.

    God Bless.

  6. we won the match that is all that matters right now. we can play better and will over the coming weeks and months. kayal showed some nice touches and awareness in the first have and with games will get better, victor IMO is a midfielder and should be nowhere near the centreback position. i would always play rogne and charlie together until we have another centreback to challenge them, at this time we do not.

from our playing pool at present IMO we should always play foster, mathews, izzy, charlie, thomas, kayal, victor, ledley, commons, sammy and hooper in their position, all those players not mentioned should be brought in when injury suspension takes place, hence a 4-5-1 when defending turning into a 4-3-3 when attacking.

there does however, seem to be a soft spot for brown and forrest

    onwards and upwards celtic

Thought Aberdeens RB was good also, Osbourne I think.

As the teams were lining up today I thought, Russell Anderson, now there was a free agent recently who is a competant centre half who always looked sensible and lacking in ‘bombscare’ moments during his first stint at Aberdeen. – would have done a trick for celtic I thought. Decided to watch in detail how he performed today, but I forgot as the game got going.

Any more tactically aware fans want to say what they thought of him today?

Celtic poor today but a good 90 minute work out.

  11. I had the honour of attending my first CQN Golf day. I had a fantastic day.

A big thank you to Blantyrekev and Taggsybhoy for organising such a great event.

Also a big thank you to Sannabhoy for getting the Lanarkshire Bhoys there and back safely, 2:40 I got home a long day but what a day.

Had great company walking course with oldtim, Malorbhoy and Gordon_J, hope Curly got oldtim and Malorbhoy to the game on time.

A big congratulations to lurker Pat McGinlay for winning the event in his first year. He and his mates sat at our table, didn’t realise he had won. I look forward to sitting at the CQN Champions’s Table in 2013 Pat.

Too many other names to mention but you know who you are, thank you all, a credit to CFC 1888 (125 years not out) and to CQN.

    Keep the Faith!

  13. Not long in but had time to digest my impressions of the game, without of course the luxury of a TV rerun, but I think I must be in the minority when it comes to Izzy- whilst we were collectively lacklustre today I did think he was one of our better players. Didn’t do much wrong defensively, in fact he put in some great well timed tackles, looked generally quite sharp, despite that 2nd half decision to pass a ball across the front of our box. Ah well, its all about perceptions. Did think Sammy was pretty awful though- it doesn’t help Izzy that the big Greek just has no real link up play with him- lost count of the many times Izzy overlapped in first half only to be ignored by Sammy. Just didn’t work for the big guy today; nor did it for Matthews, Stokes or Hooper.

Matthews bombed forward all game on Wednesday night then today he hardly attacked the byline at any time, strange. With Hooper and Stokes it was a toss up for who was the most ineffective. It seems as though they’re telepathic link up play of the last few years is all but a busted flush, now they are playing like jealous rivals rather than a buddy double act. Ledley, Commons and Big Vic were all frustrating today as well, with the latter coming into the game more convincingly as the powerhouse we’ve come to expect when he moved into midfield- proving that he should always be playing there bar injuries to others. Lenny should not be playing a midfielder before either Wilson or Lustig, as it sends out a real lack of faith in those guys. The big man does get away with mistakes others would crucified for such as Lustig, Wilson or even Rogne.

Was really surprised to see Kayal substituted as I thought he was one of our few players who seemed to be playing fairly well. He was actually hooked just after he had a driving run at the Aberdeen defence and put through a great ball for Hooper. Thought Ledley was quiet, despite always being a threat, when he can ghost into the box the way he does, but still I think I would have taken him off before Kayal. Wilson looked comfortable when he came on for Samaras: how can a guy who has strength, pace, has a decent reading of the game and is fairly comfortable on the ball struggle to impress the majority of the fanbase? Maybe big Wilson can’t cope with the pressures of playing for Celtic, some can’t. I don’t think guys from down south like Fox before, or Loovens, guys of that ilk, realise just how pressurised an environment it is or how big the club actually is until they get here. Then some just wilt under the intensity of the heat put on them- is that Wilson?

Lastly I thought Paddy played really well when he came on, a few decent runs, some incisive passes, even a great tackle in our own half and added a real element of composure to our play when we looked to be going nowhere or completely losing our way second half- credit to Lenny for bringing Paddy on after 68 minutes this time. I think it’s about time we had young Tony Watt putting pressure on Hooper and Stokes as well, as I would have had him on the subs bench before Murphy- but then the big man played well enough when he came on. Used as a tactical target man he could do a job if employed against the right teams or at the right times.

I often feel that these big flag days are a bit of a strange anti-climax; we get ourselves so built up with them that they never quite live up to expectation, or so it seems. It was a strange atmosphere today. The crowd seemed a bit subdued and quieter than usual. The game itself seemed to lack an edge or a real sting, as though Aberdeen themselves looked less than sharp and we were a bit sluggish ourselves after Wednesday nights exertions. I don’t really know, it was just all a bit flat today. But all that matters at the end of the day is that we are off to a winning start for the new campaign and for me that has to be the most important thing as we have plenty of time to play creative, dynamic and expressive football as the rest of the season unfolds.

Queens Park 3 – 2 Aidrie Utd in league cup AET – still playing.

Airdrie thought they were through, then QP equalised in last minute of regulation time.

Don’t know why, but this made me happy.

Just in. Happy with the win. Big Vic has to play midfield. Daryl looked good today. Certainly better than our usual two. HH.

  24. The Comfortable Collective on

I suppose until Billy McNeil resigned in 1983, most Celtic players in the first 95 years of the club only played under one manager, a lot would have played under two managers, but I would think (up until 1983) not many played under three.

Then there was the mad ’90s when Celtic had more managers in 10 years than they had in their first 100 years (not including caretakers).

No wonder Tommy Boyd racked up so many.

  25. Is Anderson any better than McManus, Caldwell, Loovens, Wilson, Rogne, Mulgrew, Majstorovic, even O’Dea, or for that matter any central defender Celtic have had in the last few years? I don’t think so. Not from a footballing point of view, although he did play fairly well today. But then both Hooper and Stokes looked sluggish today, so I would postpone judgement until they have their shooting boots on the next time they face up.

The biggest question you have to ask is: could Anderson handle the relentless pressure, microscopic analysis and hyper-criticism of playing for a club like Celtic? Like the others I’ve mentioned with the exception of Caldwell, Rogne and Mulgrew he would probably go the way of all the others once he put on those famous Green and White hoops- the heavy responsibility is too much for most.

  26. Auldheid

Great to see not only a very good Celtic support turning up today but also a very good Aberdeen support. A big away support adds an edge to the game unless they happen to be bigotted and otherwise unacceptable to the majority of decent human beings.

“We don’t need no stinking Sevco”.

  27. Auld Neil Lennon heid on

Delahunt raising the how can they afford it question?

This will be asked more and more as the season proceeds.

A gate of 22,000 only supports £1.6k a week as an average wage. If they are front loading wages they MUST get back in SPL tout de suite which raises questions on SFA granting a licence and what will be done to help to make sure SFA do not get egg on their face.

    It still stinks Mr Regan.

Good result today against a disciplined Aberdeen team.

Thought we showed some great touches, great passing and nice movement interspersed with poor touches, sloppy passing and lack of movement.

Once we get a few more competitive games under our belt we’ll find our form.

    Hail Hail!

  30. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I Know I will be shot for saying this but its my honest opinion that Hooper is lazy he could work much harder in some games.Aberdeen came to stifle Celtic and apart from a goal keeping blunder they nearly got away with it.The front two need to work harder on putting pressure on defenders and the midfield and full backs need to give the front to much better service I thought Paddy played well when he came on and we should be happy we have the 3 points in the bag we will need to play much better in Finland if we are to progress.H.H.
