” There are a few on here who, for whatever reason, like to cast blame on the GB for any misdemeanour.”

That does seem to be the case but I can suggest two , possible reasons:

    1) The GB occupy only part of the standing section. If others in that section sing/chant songs/add ons which are not acceptable to many, the GB are blamed;

    2) The MSSM portray the GB as a typical, young guys Ultra group whose raison d`etre is a bit of a barney at football matches and some Celtic supporters accept that misrepresentation.. The reality of the GB is far removed from that. Any other Ultra groups in the country raise £ 180,00 for Palestine or many thousands for Food Banks?

One more point. To criticise some of the stuff we can hear( if we really try) is fine. To somehow attach it to the general Celtic support is ridiculous. To attach the sentiments expressed in many songs sung at Ibrox to their general support is not ridiculous.

The songs/chants MIGHT be as bad as each other; the numbers involved is massively different.

The Green Brigade are vehemently anti sectarian, you won’t hear them singing the version of Roamin in the Gloamin that used to be popular (which incidentally was given an airing in a boozer near Hampden pre the League Cup final by no particular fans group) and likewise it is not their style to sing ‘soon there’ll be no Protestants at all’ etc.

But it suits the agenda of some to blame them for any misdemeanour.

The GB lead the singing at CP.

They are the ones with the drums and the loudhailers.

The song selection on Saturday was theirs and theirs alone.

It was utter tripe — did nothing for the team and did nothing to lift the crowd.

It was puerile, self indulgent dross.

Songs about sub machine guns, comando comic militarism and physical force triumphalism have nothing to do with either the ethos of the club, the team on the park or the future of the societies we claim to represent.

They have set the tone and then act surprised when the dafties, the zoomers and those woth a partisan agenda take their lead and run with it.

The GB are nothing more than a local representation of the non thinking rampant masculinity that is taking over the modern world.

Wee boys trying to make sense of a mans world and failing badly.

They will grow up to be Phil the Greek.

Rules are for everyone but me.

Pyro / war songs / crowd crushing …

    We’ll do what we like.

No — that way lies tribalism, division and chaos.

  5. Greetings from a cloudy -3 degrees London .

In the Big Smoke for a Chris Bowden gig in Canonbury on Tuesday night …. Playing the choons from the wowee good- Time Capsule LP – from the early 90s .

Went To Arsenal 2 – Chelsea 0 on Saturday evening .

Not a great game . Chelsea were dire . All that money ,all those expensive players trying to play Sarriball without having the type of players required to play Sarriball . Square pegs in round hole stuff .A shambles . Napoli played that system with their eyes shut , Chelsea look like it’s beyond them . Hard to see Sarri staying .

Atmosphere was heavy . Heavy vibes before and after . The politics of Brexit at the football . Arsenal fans shouting stuff like Neo Fascist Brexit scum at Chelsea fans and getting stuff like left wing scum in reply . Told that such stuff is becoming a feature of English fitba. Not good !

  6. Just looking at the TV football for Wednesday evening and see the sevco have 2 televised games at the same time . V Cowdenbeath on premier sport and against Kilmarnock on BT.

Brexit has a long way to go.

Not sure how the wreckage will fall.

People are wanting simple solutions where none exist.

The UK establishment has been living a lie for 100 years and they are reaping now what they sowed over all those years.

We dont understand our own history because it was never taught.

We now have the blind leading the deaf.

Interesting case study of how countries collapse.

    Don’t be a drama queen.

That they have a loudspeaker does not make them responsible for some idiot in another part of the ground shouting add ons or adding offensive lyrics to an otherwise unoffensive song.

I had to settle for watching on TV on Saturday but lets not start pantywetting on hearing a couple of rebel songs. They’re not all my cup of tea either but most of them are fine, some borderline, some a bit much(**)… but come on, unless you’ve just come up the Clyde in a banana boat spare us the mock horror at hearing them.

Ever been in a Celtic bar btw?

    HH

**ps. plus all can be purchased in any good music store(if there are any left that is)

  9. In case you forgot.

When some on here complain about no signings, PL’s heated drive etc etc etc, please just remember how much hundom is hurting, they really are hurting badly. And is it not good to remember that???

They are trying every trick in the book , every trick and still we , the Mighty Celtic go from success to success, it really must stick in their craw, and I’m just loving it hugley. Brilliant

  10. By the way, no more silly songs just because “they” sing theirs, rise above that juvenile shit please, it does our club no good

Celtic bars are exactly the place where ” Rebel ” songs c/ w add ons should be sung. Not in a football ground that prides itself in inclusivness.

The very fact that yet again we have a songs debate surely demonstrates that many fans are uncomfortable.

Just because we have sung them in the past means nothing in an increasingly secular society. Our world has changed, we must move with the times or forever be intertwined with the dinosaurs.

    In my opinion of course.

    GREENPINATA on 21ST JANUARY 2019 11:26 AM

The problem is inconsistency in approach – the club play the Fields of Athenry and Let the People Sing over the tannoy. Should they forget it all and move with the times too? Just how much do we water it down and is it realistic to expect 60,000 to reach alignment on where the line is drawn?

Also, yes society is increasingly secular, and not before time IMO – but the songs are nothing to do with religion and so any link is pretty pointless there(apart from of course those adding the stupid add-ons etc)

  13. I stood in the Jungle, in the late 70s, with my flatmates who were from Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenson, when the “Soon there’ll be no Protestants at all…” ditty was belted out.

I hated it and never joined in. The fact that two of my flatmates were Protestant Celtic supporters made it even worse.

We always held the moral High Ground regarding sectarianism but, with that sort of crap, we lose it.

There was no excuse then and there is no excuse now.

Saying we all did daft things when we were young has never been an excuse.

Those who sing that are mindless bigots and an embarrassment to the rest of the Celtic support.

Like many of you I demonstrated in George Square about the OBF Act and the treatment (kettling) of the Green Brigade. Would I be so keen if a section of our support keep that rubbish up?

    Definitely not.

And that lot in the Upper North Stand need no encouragement.

Time for them all to chuck it.

As Jock said, “Surely there are enough Celtic songs without introducing religion or politics or anything else?”

100 years ago today….followed by the shooting of 2 RIC constables at Soloheadbeg which started the War of Independence.

The following is an extract from Seamus Robinsons ( Brigade O/C that day) statement to the Military History Bureau. It describes a meeting that he and fellow Tipperary men Sean Tracey and Dan Breen had in Dublin with Michael Collins shortly afterwards.

Mick seemed to be keeping his eyes peeled watching everyone in the street without moving his head. His glance would come back to us. He greeted us with: “Well, everything is fixed-up; be ready to go in a day or two”. “To go where?” I asked’. “To the States” he said. “Why”. “Well, isn’t it the usual thing to do after ” “We don’t want to go to the States or anywhere else”. “Well”, said Mick “a great many people seem to think it is the only thing to do”. I began to be afraid that G.H.Q. had begun to give way to Sinn Féin pacifism, and with a little acerbity I said: “Look here, to kill a couple of policemen for the country’s sake and leave it at that by running away would be so wanton as to approximate too closely to murder.” “Then what do you propose to do” “right it out of course”. Mick Collins, without having shown the slightest emotion during this short interview, now suddenly closed his notebook with a snap saying as he strode off with the faintest of faint smiles on his lips but with a big laugh in his eyes: “That’s all right with me”.

  17. Having been lucky enough to have had a season ticket in or near the GB for the last 10 years or so I have enjoyed the atmosphere they bring to an otherwise now almost silent ground. The add-ons alluded to, initially by some newish blog names, are not part of any songs I have heard them sing. I have heard random steamers in the wider crowd throw in lines that were outdated in the 1970s. But the response of those around them quickly clarifies that they are not acceptable. The same faces on here use any debate around songs to criticise and childishly name-call the GB members. A group who have done more for charity and positively raising the profile of Celtic than I guess all of CQN malcontents combined, while also adding millions to Celtic’s coffers. If you want different songs sung, go to the games and start the crowd singing the ones you find acceptable.
