  1. Does anyone think the current team are NOT good enough to qualify for the group stages?

I think we are in good shape with the bones of Neil’s legacy and the addition of youngsters like Henderson, McGregor and OConnel should get us through to the group stages.

If we get an offer of around £8m from FF he will be off and the manager may get a couple of million max. The rest (once Newcastle get their 25%) will be tucked away in the club bank account as insurgence against failure to qualify for group stages.

  3. That was a enjoyable game. Liked what I saw. Love mcgregor and Henderson. Wee bit sozzelled hence the post. Am in a caravan in boat of garten and it’s awesome. Sunny and great. Saw a good Tim at land mark today, nice Lisbon lions tee, made me proud. I have been on this blog since near beginning, read every day, only inclined to post when boozy probably due to spending my life at work on emails etc. This is a truly awesome thing paul67 has Created and is now part of m every day. Please do not over analyse the weirdos, freaks and Huns that post as this is what makes this this. Thunder I know wha you mean, by for every non response I have had some great dialogue that sticks and made me from some opinon. Keep the faith his guys as this is some blog.

  4. Good interview with Ronny.

Pleased with 1st half – thought we were a bit sloppy 2nd half – believes we can up the tempo – expects Big V to weigh-in with more goals at set-pieces.

    Side-stepped transfer questions brilliantly.

I’m pleased with tonight’s result and pre-season progress so far – like RD’s attitude and ability to deal with SMSM.

    Onwards and upwards. H!H!

  7. Shock news revealed tonight on Shortbread that CFC have to strike a difficult balance between speculation and accumulation……(.Shockerooni!)

Clear-eyed examination of footballing finances makes a surprise entrance to Shortie in wake of narrow Celtic victory over Icelandic pub team………

Much to be happy about tonight.

Even allowing for the standard of the opposition, who, in fairness, put in a hard and mostly honest shift.

It has been a long time since we have seen a Celtic team retain momentum and attitude after a victory has been assured.

Delighted for Pukki, who I have always thought was a player. He can only get better once the master talent spotters in the support keep their mouths shut.

Every player, without exception, should be encouraged.

I get the impression that Deina is well capable of in stilling fear into his team, if required.

He won’t carry passengers, or blue eyed boys.

I was a wee bit worried about playing there but there ye go we went had a party scored four times and have to do it all again next week!

    Vamos Celtic..

  10. And yeah we need to remember this was like Arbroath at best. Had a crazy dream last night, the FOD had just beat Arbroath 7 nil, one of their young scots was being interviewed on TV with my bro maintaining they were awesome. My bro pointed out it was Arbroath and they should not be do happy, the Hun mocked him. I turned to my pal (we was watching the box) and said on no here we go… And my brother nutted him on love TV. That gave the media so much Ammo. Stupid dream.

  11. Whoever decided on Murrayfield as the venue

Fantastic. The support really enjoyed the occasion. Great ground Murrayfield.

The local polis, that I saw took a common sense view, polite, courteous and turned a blind eye to those infringing for minor things, so credit when due.

    Singing D,

I don’t think the GB shamed us at all.

Shame that Watt didn’t get a chance.

    GG,

I think we may scrape through but it need not be like that. We have to buy a better standard of forward and creative midfielder.

The teams we may face are all beatable.

  16. Starry, aye looked like a blast.

Tom he reminds me of my big boss who is also a noggie. Logic rules. Common sense rules. Cross that and he will destroy young with facts and brains and ruthless when he does. Stick to facts and logic then your ok and endorsed. Ronnie seems similar. Imagine the MSM when he brains the feck out of them. That sounds wrong

  17. And this is why I rarely post… Reading my own I sound like and illiterate half wit.

Ronnie’s comments in today’s Herald made it plain, that as usual, any signings will be late in the transfer window and probably consist of the dross of the market

    ————-

Ronnie has also made comments, on several occasions, that he wants to assess the squad before bringing players in. He will also have to assess the players that have been watched extensively by the scouting department as well. He is correct that the biggest dogs eat first. Then deals start to fall into place all the way down the food chain. Arsenal are also notorious for signing players late in August and they have 10s of millions available. If Celtic had signed Borini or McCormack I wouldn’t have been overly excited, yet they both went for over £10m, and no doubt wages around £40k.

I agree we need players in. We could also do with shipping a few out. But it’s not even the end of July yet, the guy has been in the job a month, let’s see who he brings in. I’d rather go with the current squad, than blow £4m on someone who doesn’t cut it, and have to bundle VVD out the door before the end of August for less than he’s worth. As for dross of the market, Robbie Keane and Bellamy both became available at the last minute. Obviously players of that quality are rarely available, and if they are they don’t want to come to Scotland, except maybe if we’re in the Champions League.

Next summer I’d expect us to be a lot more prepared, but this is a team in transition, and I’d rather time was taken to get it right.

  19. I am Neil Lennon e El Juarez Bravo on

Switched Shortbread off. Same old cries of “Celtic need to spend big”; “Celtic don’t have a ‘proper’ striker” etc. They seem to have missed the fact that we no longer have any domestic competition and probably never will have. And even if we spent £30m this summer we wouldn’t win the Champions League. Not by a long shot. So what’s the point of spending big? Those days are gone. I’d much rather see more McGregors and Hendersons in the first XI than players who cost £7m and £70k a week but are 5% better than the kids we have. Let’s build the club from within.

Great game, great atmosphere, very nice stadium, great weather. Football should always be watched while wearing shorts.

Oh, and LG needs to be played up front.

  22. !!Bada Bing!! on

jonnyrambo67-we spent over 4 mil on dross last year in Boeriggter and Balde. The AGM preaches year on year ,we must get CL money,so why not by a striker and creative midfielder/winger ,as we need them anyway? If we don’t qualify and sell FF and maybe Virgil,RD will get 2mil tops.Fast forward to this time next season,we will be working off a much lower base to try for CL IMO.HH
