Good Evening all.
Great day today— from the performance, to the celebration for Stan the Man, to Izzy and big Giorgios coming over to the crowd, to Lenny giving away his medal and on and on.
Shame the weather let us down with the rain and the cold– bit the sun and the warmth was on the inside.
There was a moment or two when I felt– well— proud. I would have difficulty saying exactly what I was proud of at this time of night…. but proud I was. Of a team, of a club, of a support, of an occasion and just of the Celtic way…. as I see it.. and as most of you see it too.
On another topic, I listened to a very articulate Alex Arthur on the radio today talking about the Ricki Burns fight.
He explained clearly that Gonzalez had a wicked left hook and that his fights tended not to go any great distance. Arthur went on to explain that with a left hook such as this you have to stay away from it and do your best to guard against it.
The Big question was what would happen to Gonzalez when the fight went long and Burns was still there?
There is no such thing as a soft South American– especially at the smaller weights. However, in all my reading about boxing one thing has become plain and that is for a “banger” to go from being a good banger to a great banger he has to have not only fitness but heart.
He has to be able to bang in the twelfth round– or the fifteenth if you are an old fight fan like me. It is no good being able to take guys out in the first few rounds all the time as eventually you will meet someone with an iron jaw, a rough and tumble style or who may be quicker to the punch or swifter on their feet around the ring.
It is then that you have to believe and dig deep and be able to withstand what the opponent throws while still believing that you can show them the way home late on in the fight.
For many boxers who get used to delivering the good night blow early in a fight, when they come across a long haul merchant they often lose heart as they have no plan B and no inner strength.
By the looks of it that is what happened to Gonzalez tonight– Burns wasn’t going anywhere and was coming on strong while the South American was heading into unknown country in the later rounds and was not comfortable in his head or in his heart.
When that happens you will never win.
Well done Ricki Burns… and well read Alex Arthur… You were right on the money!

I backed us today to win both halves @ 12/5.
It is a difficult thing to do in football, but a lot better value than the usual ht/ft bets and the minus goals.
Hope you had a good day paul. Team played well. Broony back with avengeance.

Anyhoo, getting back to the game today. What a difference oor captain made to the side. I mentioned earlier how much we missed him this year especially. We struggled to get the flow going. I was back today no doubt because our captain has returned. I just love watching the guy in the Hoops, he was born for this.

Hi Ghuys, Appertaining to Jock Wallace my memory seems to reach to a time when after the Souness debt funded revolution Jock was very shabbily treated at the putative cassionodome. If memory serves me right, he was very warmly welcomed at Celtic Park at a time when his health was failing. As ever, I may be wrong but at the moment I am consoling myselfy with a spectacular Aberlour 16 Year old which the wonderful Mrs Greenwells purchased for me in the event of my recent birthday. Whilst I am fortifing myself with said 16 Year old Aberlour, Mrs Greenwells has unnerved me by threatening to adorn herself in her Harris tweed neglege. Spare yourselves bhoys, I shall fortify myself with the Aberlour.
Delighted for you, When the commentator commented that the combined cost of the Wigan team wiz 11 Million, and every player on the Man C side was bought for over that figure, I couldnae help but impart a wee bit mair knowledge to the Wee Man – I hope Man City get gubbed because of that fact- they got played OFF the park IMO. Yaya bullied wee James aff the ball once down the line but only because he decided to test him and his REAL desire. I reckon Yaya is the best midfielder in the World now Xavi is waning because of constant injuries.
Aidan was desperate for Wigan to win but wisnae happy when I beat him 3 nil at Snooker this week, he lost 2-1 last week. Massive improvement though by the wee lad, I had to clear most of the Colours to win the last Frame. He uses the left hand cue like the right hand, also with the rest. WOW
Seen it earlier on @ 16/1 but the price put me off.

You are maybe correct, but the guy stopped within touching distance of the win. He did as you say reach a plateau only to find a higher hill. Strange that any warrior capitulates, he has after all, overcome the biggest barrier of actually getting in the ring.

Even with the wrist he could’ve seen it out. His trainer looked disgusted. Can’t figure how a brave guy could make that decision. They didn’t seem to be concerned at a hand injury during the bell either ?
In the penultimate round Ricky appeared to stop fighting at times. The guy seemed to fast and clearly hurt the Scot.

Did anybody else notice a different kickoff from celtic in the second half.
Celtic normally ko back to full back who humps a long ball up to a wing . (i’ve always hated that move as any ball in the air is a fifty fifty).
Today in the second half ko celtic passed the ball out to the wing straight away .
Has anyone noticed if we have changed our ko in the recent weeks?

At the end of round 9 Ricky new he had 9mins to inflict as much pain and punishment on his opponent who had stopped hitting back with the hope that he would hurt him often enough to stop him.
