Celtic with points to prove

248

Back in the 80s, when Billy McNeill was in charge, you could relay in Celtic responding after a defeat by giving the next poor team to face them a pasting.  They played with urgency from the start, which they often only deployed in the closing minutes of games when they were chasing a winner.

Football then got a whole lot more methodical, especially since Martin O’Neill arrived and instilled a discipline unseen in my time watching Celtic.  Under O’Neill and Gordon Strachan, Celtic would open the next game on-plan, without giving the impression they had something to prove.  It might be different tonight.  Neil Lennon has made it clear that the 11 who take the field against St Johnstone have something to prove to him, as well as to the support.  I’m expecting a big result.

Blogging on the go today so not really got time to deal with Our Pal Charlie but I’ll catch up tomorrow.

The Spiers article tickled me with hos opening line,

“My heart sank as I watched last week’s Channel Four News item about critics of Rangers FC coming in for threats or menacing intimidation from either fans or rogue elements with links to the Ibrox club.”

His heart sank even though he knew it was endemic, His heart sank because it was being broadcast by the MSM. His club has lost its throttling grip on the media, its the end of an era and he’s sad to see the exposure of their true nature is not being obfuscated with whataboutery as some sort if justification.

OK You can have a belated mention……as can DBBIA for his outrageous claim that he saw Chris Killin score a goal for Celtic!

(It was, in fact, a very good goal).

  5. Re hassle of the GB.

When I was finished doing wee Oscar bucket collection the game had started but I needed to pay a visit to the loo, the toilets at 111 were empty as everyone takes their seat… Ish early.

Two cops followed me into the toilet, felt like i was in a police state then…. Never mind the rest going on.

Don’t be intimidated tonight but also don’t give them the opportunity.

James Ellroy can post on here, if he’s a bit mad, had a ‘hit and miss’ kind of life, and an insightful understanding of reality.

THese all fit within the ole CQN demographic[ well, maybes not the reality bit].

  7. In 1967 Jimmy Steel gave me my first Celtic jersey, he took it from a number 7 peg, in a dressing room at parkhead, he had picked me up at my mothers in his Jag and took me on the tour of the ground,

The jersey used to drown me, it’s a little tight now, the year was 1967 and Jjinky signed it many years later, with gret affection for “Steely”

We`ll be in trouble for using this site as Friends Reunited!

Bobby Donnelly was a good pal of mine; John Gay a second cousin; Michael? Do you mean Eddy? Robertsons at one end of the triangle (Carol) and the Gilchrists at the other end (ballroom dancers!!).

I recognise the names in the BG team but as an atheist at a very early age, I had little to do with St Catherine`s when I had the choice.

I didn`t have blond hair. Thomas, my younger brother (64) did. I still have a full head of the stuff but it is more or less white now. my email is jimbarr1@talktalk.net if you want to remember old times and maybe meet before a game. Off out now, been great chatting.

Thank you for posting Herald article.

As an aside fholks, for those with an IPhone and this may be possible on other ‘phones, I don’t know, but I have just come off a flight from London and read several pages of CQN on board.

If you click on each comments section I.E 1,2,3 etc etc you just add the page to reading list, and bingo, you can read cqn off line, for as long as you like!

Certainly beats the in flight magazine….
