So are we surprised at last nights’ defeat? There’s some surprise that we scored three goals away from home, which if we count Moscow, is becoming a habit, if an incredibly lax one, but I’m less surprised we shipped four, again. Even at full strength, we are several players short of being able to play Ronny Deila’s high-energy pressing game, so when the squad is further depleted by rest, injury and the like, we cannot expect to play an expansive game and come away with a result.
Fortunately the outcome didn’t matter, but it will next time out in this competition. I’m very supportive of Ronny and think we have not even begun to see the real benefits of his work, but he got it wrong when he opened up a game which did matter in Warsaw. We’ll need to see if he decides to play this way, with many of these players, in the Round of 32. For then we either need to add appropriate players or change tactics.
There’s been a bit of chat on how attendance figures are reported. Football clubs report paid seat sales, which baselines attendance at season ticket sales, but the ‘bums on seats’ figure is usually far lower.
The showbiz side of the game will always want to report the higher figure: see – our fans are faithful through and through, and all that. Only Manchester United and Arsenal report higher average league attendance figures than Celtic in British football. This claim maybe reliant on ticket sales, but it is an important indicator of the size, and therefore potential of our club in the right environment. Not to mention the efforts many thousands go to in order to financially support the club, in sunshine or in shadow.
It was still somewhat refreshing to hear the new newco director inform the media that his club attracted less than 16,000 people for a recent home game. The cynic would point out that if newco fall into insolvency, the excuses are already established – fans are not as loyal as they claim, blame then, not their unfortunate execs.
Many thanks for all the feedback on the 2015 CQN Annual. You can order yours here, or get a special Annual-DVD bundle here.
As a special offer, everyone who buys an Annual, or bundle, before Christmas will be entered into a prize draw for a VIP Meal of 4 at a Celtic Park restaurant on a match day. One entry for each Annual bought; pile in.
Our friends Magners, who I increasingly think get what this club is all about, have offered us another pair of Premium Tickets for the Jock Stein Stand on Sunday. It’s a great way to watch football, especially on a winter’s day. To enter the competition, email me celticquicknews@gmail.com with the name of the team Celtic play on Sunday in the subject line of your message. Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, winners will be informed by email tomorrow, so check your inbox!
The deal I have with Magners is that when we make this offer, we ask you to consider making a £1 (or more) donation to our Mary’s Meals Appeal. We are working towards building a kitchen at Chibwata Priimary School in Dowa, Malawi, which has 909 pupils and does not have food preparation facilities.
With a kitchen – and Mary’s Meals providing food – they will be able to provide primary school kids with what is often their only square meal of the day. This work cuts infant mortality, improves school attendance by an average of 30%, and increases life chances exponentially.
No matter what you do today, this £1 will do things you cannot imagine. It will make your day worthwhile.
I’ll be out with my boys on the bucket collection for the Foundation before kick off on Sunday. If I’ve not coaxed your last £1 out of you, bring another one along to the game. The spirit of Celtic needs to take care of those in our own community, as well as in one of the world’s poorest countries.
Sorry for all the calls to action todaym in summary:
The Annual, with a VIP Meal for 4 competition.
The Magners’ competition, email celticquicknews@gmail.com
The Mary’s Meals £1.
See you at the bucket collection on Sunday!

I thought his annual salary was £825k yet the BBC tell me it is £400k. Which is correct?
Derek Johnstone accusing the Sevco directors of greed. A bit rich from a 25 stone glutton who has allegedly asked the Huns to give him a testimonial game on five occasions, most recently in 2010.

Today was the first time I have had a chance to get my hands on a physical copy of this years CQN Annual and if I am honest I was quite taken aback when I saw it.
When I agreed to become involved in the magazine ( and it took some persuasion ) I said that I wanted it to be a little more hard hitting, at time controversial, sometimes funny and above all else more than just a lot of green and white on paper.
In the course of this year we have had some great stories and amazing features from many CQN’ers such as SFTB, Mike Maher, Gordon Cowan, Stephen Reid, Johnathon O’Brien, Doc, Stevie Boyle, Tony Jensen and various others ….. and they all feature in the annual.
There are also many pictures of CQN’ers at CQ10 and elsewhere in this annual and of course there is a roll of honour where hundreds of CQN’ers get a name check.
However, this annual will always remain special to me for a couple of reasons.
First, I had forgotten that my dad, who died in March, had written his own Celtic story and picked his own favourite Celtic team of all time for us at the start of the year. The photos of my mother and father in their youth really took me by surprise and to be honest left me a bit emotional.
His choice of players over a 70 year period is worth the price of the read alone.
However, even more than that, I go back to wanting the magazine to be more than just a green and white mag.
Recently, Celtic fans were acquitted in a court in Amsterdam and found not guilty of charge after charge where they faced the might of the Dutch police and the Amsterdam Authorities.
While the MSM here went to town on Celtic fans with their headlines, we believed there was another story to tell — one which no newspaper was prepared to carry then — and has not carried to this day.
Our article on Amsterdam and what happened there was praised by many who lead the campaign for justice for the boys in Amsterdam and when the acquittals started to come through the Celtic Research Twitter feed, whose motto is “Dig Dig Digging”, sent out a message specifically mentioning our article, the research that was made to bring the story out, and the consequences of that research and publicity.
There are other stories that have been lifted, facebooked, tweeted and retweeted from the magazine and the blog, but the Amsterdam one is a feature that I am really proud of and is, in part, in the direction I would wish the magazine to go in future.
We are a bunch of amateurs with few resources and even less spare time in the world of journalism, but while every other bugger sat on their arse and condemned Celtic fans in Amsterdam from the pages of whatever blat they write for, this bunch of Amateurs came up with a story which I say again wasn’t written then and still hasn’t been written anywhere else even now.
I had hoped to do an update before the annual came out but have been simply to busy.
So – when I saw that article in print today for the first time I can honestly say I felt proud of being part of CQN Magazine.
Sorry, if this sounds like a self congratulatory blow of ones own trumpet but sometimes when you do something that you think is pretty good and pretty important – even in a small way – you want to tell someone about it.
The victim card was a cert.
McCoist is a pretty savvy operator and you’ve gotta guess something significant is about to happen if he is trying to distance himself from Ashley and Llambias, and take the money by the way.
Gardening leave at this time of year can be pretty cold.
Fat Salary is an expert at this game, it’s called “What happened next”
It is possible Super Salary asked the board about the war chest he was to get to buy players in the January window. However,he was told that players would have to leave in January and many who have contracts to be renewed in the summer wont be getting them renewed as costs need to be cut. H.H.
33 mins in, and the obligatory “Scottish football needs a strong Rangers”and “even my Sellick pal says so” gets their first airing
This news has fair devasted Christmas but the stuck the tranny on and they just don’t get it. Yippee thank you Santa.

STV Sport demand to know why the Celtic fan who farted in Zagreb last night has not been caught and punished. Tomorrow the Daily Rectum will have pictures from Zagreb airport toilets of skid marks which may have ( we mean they defo did) been from a Celtic fan.
All manner of stuff will be flung our way to deflect from the impending wreckage at Ipox.
AGM next week, team in tatters, playing budget now being cut, players to be told futures next week,…..Sleekit Drawers is up to something. The old 9 in a row crew will be rolled out , Goram was the first, expect Butcher,McCall et al to follow.
So the internationals have no money to pay Allys contract.
I interpret this as a public statement of being skint.
As a club it shouts it
I think if Mash was going to put in money Ally would have been paid.
Cant help but think Admin is on the way for the new entity.

Sally has been “the unluckiest manager in Rangers (sic) history”, correct, as he’s been the only one!

Ally has walked away – oh no he hasn’t – oh yes he has – he’s behind you !!!!

BBC reporting
“Our reporter Alasdair Lamont is at Palmerston. He says McCoist smiled at some Rangers fans as he stepped off the team bus.”
Awww… isn’t that sweet? He smiled at them…. personally, I think he should have kissed them all. I think its rude not to kiss someone before you *** them.

Ps
Anybody see the 3 orcs on bbc Scotland talking about fatman, oh dear they are that ugly HH
If I had a pound for every time Derek Ferguson says “eh” on SSB I would be a millionaire !
Ally is destined for sainthood or knighthood it seems.
I so hope you are correct A T. There will be 3rd Rankers to play in the future though, unfortunately
I hope the Sevco hierarchy are listening to SSB, Sally will be getting a lifetime contract as a result of the love-in.
HH
Stan Collymore having a laugh at the huns expense on Twitter, I can’t do the link as its my on my bhoys Twitter account.
Any you twitterers post them?
Ally has pulled off some remarkable results as Sevco manager…despite having the second biggest budget in Scotland.
