Century of Vanity hid truth

1937

It’s not like we didn’t warn them.  Charles Green, with his ‘blame it on bigotry’ and ‘Rangersitis’ nonsense was an even more transparent charlatan than wee Craig Whyte.  Green moved in, fed them the nonsense they were oh so willing to swallow, and made off with their millions.  All carried out in broad daylight.

The financial realities were self-evident from day one of Newco’s existence.  For a while you had to wonder if any of vast number of fans, journalists and fan-journalists with computers had a spreadsheet between them.  But, a more powerful force than Rangersitis had taken hold – vanity.  The kind of vanity only those afflicted by a notion of supremacy are susceptible to.

Their club was liquidated, a newco was formed.  It adopted Rangers’ name while the original club was still an SFA member (and granting permission for their players to turn out for was for the time known as ‘Sevco Scotland’.

Put yourself in their shoes for a moment.  This isn’t an easy pill to swallow.  Around these parts people invest the kind of sentiment in their football team which goes into nationalism elsewhere, occasionally causing wars.  It’s a primitive but natural part of all of us, so perhaps we should have been more respectful of the feelings of others at the time.  Cough.

If someone was able to chart the world’s Cognitive Dissonance harvest it would have been off the chart for the last two years, brought about when a degrading reality met a supremacists vanity.  The subsequent scarcity of Armageddon (biff), Celtic’s flourishing Champions League action (bang), the new New Firm (whallop) were all late blows which none of the Jokers at Ibrox anticipated.  Even Kilmarnock managed to sort themselves out without collapsing into administration.

Without the ability to accept credit or debit cards, or with the bank’s authority to allow fans to automatically renew season tickets, the signs are written as tall as Ibrox’ Club Deck.  I can’t see more than a few thousand being prepared to throw their money into a landfill site.

Season ticket renewal deadline has been moved to a week before when next month’s wages are due.  Right now the directors have a reasonable aspiration that tens of thousands of fans will renew but on 17 May, the day after the deadline, reality should crystallise.  If there was a spread bet available, I’d put my money on administration in the days to follow.

Money talks, it don’t sing and dance and it don’t do walking away….

You know I’m with you on this being a CELTIC blog. For those who want to use this fine forum for your mind numbing political propaganda – go start your own blog!

It’s like trying to watch the football on the tv with some political zealot banging on about his own boring personal ideals. Who’s interested?

And for those who think this site would be boring if it was just about football and Celtic – let’s give it a try ! That’s what the blog Celtic Quick News was set up for 10 years ago.

Softunis, he can come and stay with me, handy for the border.

We can take up reiving again.

Yes it is amazing how posts on this particular article do not mention Celtic. I wonder, perchance if that has anything to do with the fact that Paul67 was writing about Rangers, old, and new.

    It’d a funny old game!

Must admit I was not at game, work commitment and I think you know what that is. Hear bits of game at start and the end on radio. I was delighted to hear the musical background to the game. Hope it continues.

Real reason for coming on just now is the following. During my reading of Seville, I discovered BRTH’s remark about the support, ‘See! – See what we can do when we all act together? – As one body, as one support, as one club, as one movement, as one spirit?’

BRTH goes on to say ‘I am not sure that the “Celtic” effect is truly understood or realised by those involved with the “ business” of football or even “Business” of Celtic football club or PLC.’

Since then I have discovered that we play our final game on 11th May at 12.15 p.m. to accommodate SKY or BT. This is First Communion Day in these parts and being involved I will miss the Champions receiving the trophy.

Business has taken over and the support is the last to be considered. I have lost count of the times a Sky/BT switch has meant that I could not attend a match. As a pensioner, I wonder how long I will continue to purchase a Season Ticket when I know from the outset that I will be deprived of attending many homes games. I am sure I am not alone in this situation and I think especially of those travelling from Ireland, England and elsewhere who must be totally frustrated by this surrender to Sky and BT by football authorities everywhere.

No doubt someone will come on and inform me that we need Sky’s money. Yes, I recognise that we are in a competitive world. However do our representatives have no say in the matter and do they always represent the needs of the ordinary fan or does money always come first?

Cannot remember if I posted this before (an age thing) but even if I did, it just shows how annoyed I am to be missing the handing over of the trophy for winning the league again and again and again.

Oh if you are wondering, I have renewed for this year. And yes, I used a credit card. We can do that as Celtic supporters.

We can start the ole reiving again, until the government gets fed up with our recidivist lawlessness, and packs us off to ulster.

And then we can migrate to the Deep South and invent country music.

But the diatribes become like silly wee boys in the school playground – ‘My big brother’s better than yours’ followed by the puerile name calling and personal insults.

The language and behaviour brings down the tone of the forum. To be honest if I wanted a view on political issues, this blog is the last place I would look to for credible comment.

  8. Just back from game. Great performance bit disappointed with the crowd , but those who weren’t there were the losers as some great football played.

  9. Me, I love these 6 – 0 games, and before I say more, I better get 10 pts on predictor cause I told CRC I wanted to change score to that at halftime :-)

Anyway, I thought Charlie Mulgrew and Izzy had very very good games today, and well done Tony, also think there is a footballer there in Pukki, if we can find a position for him.

Well worth the effort of the mad dash after the Balfron 10k this morning and good to see the Green Brigade really giving it laldy throughout the game.

However, can I give another shout out to the team of folk from my work who were doing the Kiltwalk for the Children’s hospice today. Not one of them has a child of their own, they are simply walking because they believe in the charity and the effort — and because I can’t do such a walk.

If you have any spare change, or won a few quid on a goalscorer — who is it who always has a punt on Efe? — then please donate because the Hospice provides so much great care for sick kids and their parents.

Lions roar. Yes I do live in Scotland and have done for 46 years. I live in Paisley. Prior to that it was always glasgow. I have worked in glasgow and Edinburgh and now work in the Netherlands. I am well travelled. I have seen other countries and cultures and they all have their problem.

The thing about Scotland is the anti Catholicism. It is rife. Worse when you go outside the central belt. Not only is it rife but it’s institutional. It’s endemic in the public bodies around Scotland. Not only that but whilst it’s endemic the country denies it exists. Worse than that those who talk about it are lambasted and ridiculed.

And when it is noticed what does the country do? Well instead of tackling it, it’s government, introduces a law to outlaw aspects of Catholicism which might cause offence to even things up.

These are the people who would run an independent Scotland. Just imagine what damage they would do to their minority and the media here would contribute to it.

Next thing they will hide the statistics on attacks…….oh wait…….

Lions roar do you live in Scotland?

Snake. I know Scotland very very well.

    ————————————————————————

    Hi Neganon,

    From another well travelled man.

    You do know Scotland well

    VCR

    Hiya bhuddy

    Have to disagree with you.

I am a scottish traveller and I have to say this is the best country in the world

I have been marginalised and abused all my life because I’m an ethnic minority

Never been religious but I think I’m a catholic, can’t remember

    But il tell you this.

I’ve travelled extensively all over the world. Travelled throughout England for about 12 year. But no more. We are not welcome anymore. Westminster produced a law that criminalises our lifestyle. Travellers Gypsies and Roma. You are not allowed to travel with more than 5 vehicles(including caravans) anymore.

Norway removed children from gypsies to try and ethnically cleanse them

    Hitler tried the same

I travel around scotland. But I’ve noticed a massive attitude change in the last few years. The police don’t want to criminalise me anymore for following my birthright. They used to have a toleration policy. Now it’s a co-operation policy

    The same in England?

    I think not

Every year you get an influx of English travellers because they can’t travel in England anymore

    Criminalised for following their lifestyle

Has the scottish government made a difference

    Definitely

    I will vote yes

I live in a caravan but I’ve got an address

    This government made it possible

    Very enjoyable, some great performances.
