Chasing Celtic will bankrupt the Tribute Act

612

The man who wants to be chairman of Rangers International, Dave King, said over the weekend:

“In particular I see a present need to utilise the time we have over the next few seasons to be prepared, both financially and on the pitch, to compete with our Glasgow neighbours when we get back (sic) to the top League.”

Therein lies the problem.  Oldco Rangers under David Murray were driven, “10-in-a-row and two European Cups” was the target Terry Butcher attributed to his former employer.  They lived in someone else’s shadow but needed to think of themselves as superior.  As a consequence, they lost everything.

Now the same crew at it again.  “Compete with our Glasgow neighbours”.  Why not just live within your means?  Be as good as you can be, run your affairs in an ethical manner, whether you win, lose or draw?  Spend the early years of Newco trying to compete with Celtic and the only thing you’ll achieve is a pervading sense of failure.

The Battle for the Blazer, AKA the bid by King to persuade the SFA that despite the enormous evidence to the contrary, he is Fit and Proper to be a director of a Scottish football team is surely pointless.  Rangers International don’t need King as a director, all they need is his money, or anyone’s money.  King doesn’t need to be a director to exact effective control over the club, all he needs to do is appoint proxies. The SFA must issue the JP McEnroe retort, “You cannot be serious?”

My apologies if King’s target is Partick Thistle.

The only thing they can rely on is the fans digging into their pockets (HaHa)

And not forgetting, on the park, the awful spectre of what Honest Mistakes, The Mega Mk11 version might look like.

    It could get ugly.

Butchers, bakers, candlestick makers and used car sale men….the lot of them.

Alluding to other posters on the subject of their finances:

    There is no MIH,

    There is no dodgy bankers

There is no meaningful overdraft facility

    There is no CL money

There is no sizeable personal wealth being securitized on the place

Theres XYZ required to be spent tarting up the bigot dome

We will be 5 going on 6 league flags down the road before they are even in the same division as us.

We will be who knows how many tens of millions to the good with a seasonally improved squad when and if they ever arrive in our division.

The notion that somehow they are in a position within 10 years (from today) to mount a meaningful challenge to us is lamentable.

Sun bleached seating like tynecastle and a budget of 12M per year about sums them up.

They are destined to be perennial runners up…….if they dont liquidate and die again first.

His colourful history includes a police prosecution for sectarian offences at Celtic

This is from a piece in The Independent http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/artful-artur-boruc-dodges-clown-comparison-8876300.html

I would like to post a comment on this though not sure of all the facts, can anyone help.

I remember Artur being “cautioned” by Strathclyde Police for blessing himself…..( I know only in a “multicultural best wee country in the world”) can’t think of anything else.

It is worth note a police caution is an alternative to prosecution!

    Hope this helps HH

  11. Soukous

I think they are talking about a police caution for blessing himself.

your name will be at the top of the petition list or close too if anyone has signed it after you.

  13. Interesting article in sunday mirror today saying that tbe the Hillsborough enquiry will not be overseen by anyone with ‘lodge’ memembership as it is felt they influenced previously. Then goes on to point out ‘they’ have infiltrated every level of influence in the country. At last a wee glimmer of hope now the media have pointed out what we all here have known for years?

Apologies! It was me misunderstanding the point you were making. Good use of that quotation, which no, sadly, was not mine.

  15. Craigellachie10 on

Re artur- the police insisted the caution was not for blessing himself. Solely for offensive hand gestures to the oldco fans. No religious or sectarian connotations. The Catholic Church welcomed the clarification I recall.

    Police caution

This is Scotland …..doesn’t exist in the formal sense

I am aware that the police were considering trying to instigate a prosecution ….wasn’t proceeded with because he wasn’t doing anything wrong
