The man who wants to be chairman of Rangers International, Dave King, said over the weekend:
“In particular I see a present need to utilise the time we have over the next few seasons to be prepared, both financially and on the pitch, to compete with our Glasgow neighbours when we get back (sic) to the top League.”
Therein lies the problem. Oldco Rangers under David Murray were driven, “10-in-a-row and two European Cups” was the target Terry Butcher attributed to his former employer. They lived in someone else’s shadow but needed to think of themselves as superior. As a consequence, they lost everything.
Now the same crew at it again. “Compete with our Glasgow neighbours”. Why not just live within your means? Be as good as you can be, run your affairs in an ethical manner, whether you win, lose or draw? Spend the early years of Newco trying to compete with Celtic and the only thing you’ll achieve is a pervading sense of failure.
The Battle for the Blazer, AKA the bid by King to persuade the SFA that despite the enormous evidence to the contrary, he is Fit and Proper to be a director of a Scottish football team is surely pointless. Rangers International don’t need King as a director, all they need is his money, or anyone’s money. King doesn’t need to be a director to exact effective control over the club, all he needs to do is appoint proxies. The SFA must issue the JP McEnroe retort, “You cannot be serious?”

We have been unable to adequately replace Hooper and Wanyama.
We received around €20million for them.
We would received zero for Ledley Sammy and Stokes.
They will be very difficult to replace for less that we pay them,and no significant signing on fee.

I do not post too often but the subject matter today is interesting., and I concur with your sentiments. If we all agree that the Orcs are manipulating public opinion/press coverage why are we not doing the same?
The entire fabric of Scottish football is woven into the myth of the “old firm” we are force fed the opinion that we need the “old firm”, no other country in the world believes or even cares about this. The need for a “strong Rangers” is a lie that has been exposed, the hangers on in Scottish football have already gone or are breathing their last, due to the same market forces that benefited previous owners or shareholders, tough.
Scottish football in its current state needs a strong Celtic and/or Rangers, football ( in a European market) does not need a strong Scottish football, we have to understand and grow our game within the boundaries that are set.
TV , much as I hate it, pays the money to markets where it gets the biggest return. The talk this week about a top 20 European league is bad news for us, two leagues of 20 is more in line with our current status. That is if you use TV revenues as a major factor in the equation.
I am comfortable with us being in tier two providing we exist in a separate league from that lot , with an opportunity to advance to tier one.
The lack of action from our board on current matters south of the river is fair enough, BUT…the moment is coming soon when we will have to act……fit and proper, previous culpability, turning a blind eye, etc..
I am utterly convinced they will be facilitated a shot at European money at the earliest opportunity…….Europa league would be my first guess.
I understand the need to look ahead but why all the angst whether or not we will win the 2015/2016 Title. Somethings in life are inevitable and there is absolutely no point in worrying about them. When they happen you deal with them, rejoice if they are positives get over it if they are negatives. For the moment all I’m interested in is the 2013/2014 campaign, we are presently leading with a game in hand and oh yes we have a Champions League game against Ajax coming up. I’m a Happy Happy Tim today, I’ll worry about 2 years time in 2 years time..

Awe naw – the July date for the FTT was just to see if it would even be submitted for consideration by the Upper Tier. They decided yes and it’ll happen at the start of next year.

Thanks for the reply. There was a lot of emotion in it and a lot for me to consider.
King is the huns last resort. I believe that he will be there once the spivs have gone. The state that Sevco find themselves is at that point is the big question.
Before then all of Scottish football has to ask the question do we want proven lairs and fraudsters in our game. Perhaps it is time again to build up support for Scottish football to stand against the corrupt money talks individuals and act the way all Scottish fans did against them walking straight back into the top .
There are principles at stake what is more important Scottish football or rangers? We know that they need Scottish football more than it needs them.
