I totally understand what it means to Scotland players of this generation to be selected for the Euros next month. Few of them are old enough to remember the last time we qualified for a major tournament, for some, it will be their last chance.
Still, Celtic have so much business to do on the park in July and August, with legs that need to keep running until May. I have concerns for Callum McGregor, James Forrest and David Turnbull, each of whom I expect to be first choice for Celtic next season. Greg Taylor may fall into that category too, though I expect Ryan Christie to continue to resist contract offers and leave.
Even if uncapped David Turnbull does not feature in the tournament, he will go through the same intense training load as the rest of the squad. Greg Taylor has Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson to contend with, so might not see too much game time.
I keep reading about this Jack Hendry character who is ripping it up in Belgium, also in the Scotland squad. With central defender numbers low and Christopher Jullien out until October, Jack is likely to see a bit of squad action in the early weeks of the season. His Scotland involvement will do him no harm.

It’s a fair point, why would any young family wish to reside here amongst our “noisy neighbours”, especially coming from the tranquil surroundings of south England, makes no sense to me, por cierto.

David Turnbull should be ok fitness wise, he’s only played half a season. Although an injury is not out of the question, heaven forbid, por cierto

Greig Taylor is a perfect metaphor for how far Celtic have fallen in the past 2 years. That he may be first choice next season is a worry.

very interesting that Hendry made the squad with a ‘late run’. Considine is the clear loser here but I think his age and being left sided counted against him. Patterson making it is due to the 27 player allowance and our dearth of options at RB. Palmer will be annoyed but he never impressed me
No interest in Scotland the SFA 2nd team of choice.
But, But I do hope all of our players enjoy the experience and come back fit.
Having a Bhoy and grandkids that will see Scotland for the first time in a major tournament, I get it how the people will get excited, I find it hard to move on from the booing of Celtic players and our under capped greats of the past.

Any player from any country will always jump at the chance of being ‘capped’ and be even more eager to be part of a major international competition.
Although they are contracted to a club and play week in & week out during the season, they are not really fully-fledged employees in the true sense. They are small individual business, with an agent, who have a contract with a club until it is renegotiated, or, they move on – much like our GPs, who are hiding from their patients at this unprecedented & dangerous time. These people work for the NHS but are not part of it – dentists are the same.
However, I digress. International caps and being part of the Euros and/or World Cup squads are treasured additions to a player’s CV – it makes him more valuable in the marketplace.
Any concerns we have that international duty may compromise ability to properly represent their club are certainly not, these days, shared by players.

Yesterday after 5pm, 16hrs after the Lawwell home bombing, I read a police statement on Glasgow live which gave Lawwell’s Street name and district. I thought that was irresponsible and pointless. By linking the street name with the media shots of the house, any nutter could identify the precise location.
I’m not prepared to make a formal complaint to the polis as I fear reprisals so I asked my MSP to raise this with them which was done quickly.
Here’s the polis reply:
This is standard practice for us and there is nothing unusual here. Ultimately the decision to provide this info would be the Senior Investigating Officer’s in consultation with Corporate Communications.
There would have been significant speculation by the media as to the owner of the house and a decision would have been taken to provide information as is standard practice for the police in a situation like this. There is no breach of any Police Scotland policies.
Issues around safeguarding for Mr Lawwell and the family now and in the future will be fully considered and supported by Police Scotland.
I hope this provides the constituent with suitable reassurance.

On the subject of Ryan , his constant rushing , over commitment , is really frustrating which means that in any team (I.e. most teams) he can’t defend his position properly…. your average scout will spot this blatant flaw in his game , not got the bulk for the EPL , so nomadic future for Ryan if he decides the grass is greener
