CQN Magazine new issue out now! Police, law, Neil and Orange!

673

Issue 5 of CQN Magazine is out today with some exciting changes.  We’re moving print production into the UK for this issue, which will be available after the game against Rangers, with 8 extra pages not included the online version, covering all the drama from next week’s game.

We have a couple of retrospective articles touching on the momentous events of 2011, including an interview with George Galloway, discussing his book about the life Neil Lennon has had to endure.  As you would expect, George doesn’t shirk out of the tackle.

We also have an excellent interview with Elaine C Smith, talking about growing into her life as a Celtic fan, her work and tackling domestic violence.  We cover the recent Football Bill and question the possible agendas behind a senior police officer, and recent striking referee, reporting Celtic fans to Uefa.

We stick our first toe in the short story water, a clarion call to Reclaim the colour Orange, tons of great fan memories, many of which you’ll share and plenty more, it’s all there, including typos and deliberate mistakes!

You can order now with credit/debit card or Paypal and buy direct from the UK for only £3.50 + £1.50 postage and packing.  Shipping costs £2 to ROI, £3 to Europe and £4 to the rest of the known universe.  Click on the link below to order.

If more people did what the ‘big man’ did on the train the world would be a better place, with no need for the laws, the courts, the police, etc. Just a large number of ‘big men’ and Smeatos keeping us all line.

    Aye right!

    ………….

When I was wee if I did something wrong, an adult would have skelped me and took me to my Mum or Dad who would have skelped me as well. Now if that happened the Mum and Dad would have phoned the Police on the other adult.

The world has lost its moral compass on whats acceptable on society and people believe there should be no consequences for them if they decide to go eff you to everybody!

  3. The penalty for not having a valid rail ticket should not be to suffer a physical assault.

The guard should have reported him to the transport police and let them deal with it further down the line.

The young man should also have refrained from swearing.

That’s fine as long as the evidence backs the Big Man and the young lad hadn’t lost the ticket he purchased. Do you think the same thing would happen to a young female, Black Man, Asian etc. What if the young guy had lost his ticket? What if after being thrown off the train he started walking but was found dead the next day from hypothermia? Surely the police should have been called to deal with the young lad so as they could ascertain the facts. I would agree with you if the young lad was being violent. Then and only then would the Big mans actions be called for. Pretty stupid thing to do if you ask me.

At least this big keeper has the proof to back up this was not assault.

The police, courts, judges and laws should be there to deal with real criminals. This guy will face all of this because he dealt with a wee scumbag with the manners of a rat?!

‘Shouldn’t dish out the verbals if you can’t take the consequences.’

So if physical assault is an acceptable consequence for dishing out verbals what is an acceptable consequence for assaulting someone half your size?

Is the fat man looking at a prison sentence?

I wonder what the fat man would have done if the other guy had been the same size as him?

I agree with you. From the video it appears the student didn´t care that the train might not be going nowhere cos of him. I have been on a train where the transport police had to be called. It was a pain in the a…

So this naff on a busy train with families and everything, didn´t seem have any consideration for the other people on it or the inconvenience he might cause. What and I am supposed to feel sympathy cause he got thrown off. I presume his pride was hurt more than anything else.

I see Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather is getting 3 months for domestic violence – deserves longer. At boxing though he was untouchable hence the nickname – the next few months in those tough American prisons will be the 1st time he has been battered about the “ring”.

  14. The young lad on the train and the big man.

Poorly handled by the Scotrail employee.

The young lad was out of order. If he thought he was in the right he should have explained himself better and not used foul language.

Getting the lad off the train is fine but the way he and his bag was thrown off was shocking. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

The big man had the right intentions but dealt with it totally wrong.

Slap on the wrist for both and the Scotrail employee should be reprimanded by his employers.

I think it has all occured by two major factors in our society.

Some people have no respect for their elders or authority.

Some people have also lost the ability to communicate effectively. The young lad should have explained his situation better. Using foul and abusive language in front of women and children is a complete no no.

The clowns who clapped the big man should have been man enough to speak out in support of the Scotrail employee earlier. At no point should the train have been delayed. It should have been dealt with and police should have been on hand at his destination. It’s not that hard is it? Lessons must be learned and improvements made.

People will probably disagree but that’s my take on it.

  17. HEARTS midfielder Ryan Stevenson has informed the club he will not play for them again after a request to terminate his contract was refused.

Stevenson is outraged at continual wage delays and told senior Hearts officials that the stress is taking its toll at home, where wife Hannah is expecting their first child.

He had asked for his contract, which expires in June, to be terminated and all monies owed to him waived, thus allowing him a fresh start when the January transfer window opens. However, his request was knocked back by the Hearts board who still see him as a saleable asset. The player has now told the club he will not train or play again in the hope of forcing their hand. Stevenson is seeking a severance deal which would allow him to leave at the first opportunity and continue his career elsewhere.

Paulo Sergio, the Hearts manager, has been told of his decision and it remains to be seen if the Portuguese can persuade Stevenson to change his mind before this weekend’s SPL match with Motherwell.

Hearts players received their November wages on December 15 but are still awaiting salaries for this month. Stevenson is angered by the wages problems and, with a baby on the way, has taken the decision to withdraw his services. Legally, that could put him in a precarious position regarding breach of contract, although the midfielder would argue that Hearts are not honouring contracts by failing to pay salaries on time.

The 27-year-old is a first-team regular and joint-top goalscorer at Tynecastle this season, and clubs in England’s Championship are monitoring his position closely.

Meanwhile, Hearts have settled another outstanding six-figure tax bill in response to a second winding-up order inside two months. HMRC lodged a petition at the Court of Session, which forced the Edinburgh club to part with a significant sum. They paid a £1million tax bill only last month, which followed a £200,000 bill which was settled in August.

A Hearts spokesperson said: “This is in relation to a historic debt, separate to the previous case, which has been paid this week.”

Undoubtedly. I certainly think we, the CQN public, should lobby Celtic regarding the matter. The faces of the Fat People would be a picture. I’m not really one for purchasing replica shirts (if I do, they’re generally for sitting around the house or on holiday), but if this one came to fruition, I’d certainly be buying it…

  23. Rangers manager Ally McCoist says he can’t rule out a move to bring former striker Kris Boyd back to Ibrox.

Boyd, who is available on a free transfer after walking out on Eskisehirspor, has been linked with a return to the SPL champions, having scored 127 goals during a four-and-a-half year spell.

McCoist is without new sensation Kane Hemmings until January and also has concerns over Kyle Lafferty who has recently had a baby while having to cope with a sectarian aggravated assault on his luxury Bentley car.

With the future of Nikica Jelavic also under question when the transfer window opens, the boss says he can’t categorically say he won’t make a move for the 28-year-old.

“I’m in no position to rule anyone in or out,” said McCoist said on Thursday. “Whether it is Kris Boyd or Fernando Torres our attacking line certainly needs strengthening. We are looking at possible loan deals and no it does not follow that Jelavic will be leaving”

Boyd joined Rangers on this day six years ago, before leaving the club at the end of the 2009/10 season to play for Middlesbrough.

His time in England was short-lived, making 29 appearances for Boro before going on to score six in 12 games on loan at Nottingham Forest, before a move to Turkey to play for Eskisehirspor.

That move also turned sour just like Kenny Millers and the disgraced Scotland international returned home this week, having played just 76 minutes and having gone unpaid since signing for the club.

Caught a bag snatcher about 10 years ago. I held him on the ground until the police arrived. They were very appreciative but regretted to inform me that after speaking to the perpetrator they would have to investigate whether I would be liable for prosecution for assault.

Did you honestly just say “He brought it on himself”?

Evidence, as if it was needed, that the tabloid meeja still condition the thoughts of far too many.

If you had been given the wrong ticket, and the ticket inspector threatened to throw you off, only to have his threat carried out by someone twice your size, giving you a bloody face to the bargain, would you feel you had brought it on yourself?

Best to reserve judgements until you know the full facts imo. Otherwise, you might as well get a job with the polis.
