Creating and taking chances

1634

I watched Hull batter Leicester City on TV last night without putting the ball in the net.  The sheer volume and quality of chances entitled Hull fans to some consolation in the valid football adage, ‘these days happen’.  Those absent from Celtic Park on Saturday are likely to assume we similarly battered Ross County, but they would be wrong.  County defended throughout but were never under anything close to intense pressure.

This is one of the right times of the season to have a performance like that, they are of little use in the first week in February, when the transfer window is closed.  Clues abound as to where we need to strengthen, most pointing to the forward line.  John Guidetti’s drop in form over the last month has dropped like a stone, but he’s still comfortably holding onto the striker position.  Neither Stokes, Griffiths nor Scepovic are putting pressure on a young off-form player.

There is also the playmaker position, which appears to be on the bench.  Kris Commons has been dropped before in his Celtic career, often for important games in Europe, where more industrious, but less talented, players were chosen.  I spent most of Saturday’s game waiting on Kris coming on, but if his general level of fitness counts against him for a starting position, his lack of 90 minute outings since his injury earlier in the season means that his late-game cameos look even less industrious.

As I’ve been saying since July, we only have one playmaker and if he’s not playing or off form, we’ll struggle.  With a match-fit Commons on from the start yesterday, we would have won comfortably.  I’m happy to accept we need a playmaker who’ll cover 15k in 90 minutes, so sign one, but if we’re going to let Commons go, or wither on the bench, sign two, before we end up dependent on one man again.

Get your jelly and ice cream in Bhoys, rumours that something big is afoot…

Spill the ( jelly ) beans.

  2. Know what confuses me about CQN?

The number if posters who refer to the various ibrox teams and their followers as “The Hun”.

Now, having done considerable research in this subject in the clubs and bars of Coatbridge and beyond, this terminology is wrong (unless referring to individuals*).

“The Hun” refers to the Greman army I believe, during various times of conflict in the 29th century.

If one is referring to Rangers and their followers, or Sevco and their followers, the correct and only description in The Huns”. It needs pluralised to be right!

A good example is the now defunct festive chant from the Celtic support, to the tune of Jungle Bells, where we celebrated “oh what fun it is to f**k the Huns on New Year’s Day.”

The Huns, you see, not the Hun.

So however well meaning, the descriptions need some work from some posters :-)

It also must be said, the description has no religious connotations. All football related.

*it is perfectly acceptable to use the term ‘The Hun” when referring to an individual. For example “Bobby Law is a horrible wee Hun”.

  3. Many celtic supporting friends of mine are not convinced that Ronny is the man to take our

Club forward. Many of these know more about football tactics than me, but much less than other experts. I myself would like him to get time to grow into the job and prove if he has or does not have what it takes.

Media also drive, generate and manipulate negative opinion around Celtic leadership and have done since I have supported the hoops. The benefit we have just now is a small amount of wriggle room for a new coach, in the absence of our old rivals. Many on here seem determined not to give this guy a transfer window whilst we are at top of league and in 3 cups.

I don’t think these are all Huns or the like. Many are just the type who sit all around us at CP who turn up with an expectation of the team ‘doing it for us’ with no regard for an opposition determined to do all in their power to deny us. Never mind that we often play against 12 13 or as at Dundee last week, 14 folk for the opposition.

The best times for me as a supporter have always felt to be when WE (Celtic) have done it together. Club and support aligned.

The 4 2 season. The Centenary Season. Stopping the Ten in a row. Tannadice when Tommy Burns scored, St Mirren when Hearts blew it, Tannadice on Helicopter Thursday etc.

Sadly like political parties who rule for too long us opposed we are creating our own divisions and risk imploding.

Sadly with money in the game and the cost of supporting a team, modern day fans / consumers, turn into experts and judge and jury, and expectations are understandably very high for a club like ours. Jealousies of players and those in power arise and cause animosity too, regardless of how well a club might be doing on or off the field.

I really hope real Celtic fans, with the clubs interest at stake, do give this guy more time and indeed backing not barracking. Who in their right mind could think booing and abusing players and a coach can help our club progress and give our coach a better opportunity to succeed ? For Celtics sake I really hope the experiment with Ronny works. I think it could be a great bold move if it does.

This could be the best of times for celtic these next few years as our rivals continue to self destruct.

There are many out there who will be loving the divisions we seem to be generating.

Thank the lord you never mentioned numbers there. Yes indeed, that was the formation I noticed as well. It left you and me stranded on the wings. Nae wonder we drew. Hahaha. See ya kiddo, hopefullly at the next home game wi yer bro. COYBIG.

  5. The boy Kayode is rapid and full of energy. Given that we have shopped in Israel before with some success, I’d go for it.

We need pace up top and this boy looks like he can play in the Stokes role, albeit bringing something very different.

By all accounts we got Efe and Bitton for well under a million for the 2 so Israel gives value ( no matter what you think of the bhoys ).

  6. Pardew to Palace confirmed – strange one. Ally & Mc trowell out of the garden shed to Newcastle?

Guernica, I’d be surprised if we made much of a profit on any of our signings from Israel. None of them are first team guaranteed starters. None of them should be either.

Forgot one thing, I don’t know what format your camcorder records in, tips above probably will be the route but if the camcorder already converts them to video files (I doubt this) then you won’t need to do any ripping/copying as such.

If you stick the CD in your drive and do to My Computer and can open the CD (right click open) then you might see files already in .avi .mpg .wmv file if you do see this then you can simply copy/drag those files to your laptop and watch using VLC

    Just read your post.

Kris Commons is only one of 2 players in our squad who have what I regard as fit intelligence.

The other one is Craig Gordon.
