Dedryck strolls past England

1089

Hot on the heels of a former Celtic player becoming the most expensive defender in transfer history, we watched Dedryck Boyata stroll through Belgium’s win against England last night.  I would be more animated on this subject if he was secured on a five year contract, but as he his current deal only has one year to go, such a high profile performance could reduce our options for the player.

How many of you thought we would be in this situation after the Ibrox game in March?  That day Brendan Rodgers said there was better to come from Dedryck.  He is still not the finished article, but he’s a key cog in a team who fancy their chances in Russia.

Stiliyan Petrov match worn Champions League shirt raffle

We have a very special raffle, which ends this afternoon! The shirt Stiliyan Petrov wore in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich during our 2003 Champions League campaign is available. You can buy a ticket for £1 here on ebay.  Stan signed the shirt.

All proceeds go to the Stiliyan Petrov Foundation to aid research into leukaemia and cancer treatments.  Stiliyan’s recover from leukaemia shows us just how far treatments have come, but as our own CQN community knows too well, more progress is needed.  The draw will be made at Woodside Hotel, Aberdour, where the 14th annual CQN Open Golf Day is now underway.

Hope to see you later.

Hiya guys, long time since I’ve been on here, looking for some help. Been reading a few books that mention the 1970 ECF with Feyenoord and it doesn’t seem to be as widely available on video as the 67 final. I know it’s on you tube and eBay, but those versions seem to have German commentary. If anyone can point me in the direction of an English commentary, it would be appreciated even if I do subject myself to watching it again there are a few incidents in that match I can’t remember and would like to see again.

1st world cup I remember was the fantastic Mexico 1970 with Pele’s heider and Banks’s save,Gerson’s dribble, Carlos Alberto’s goal and Revilino’s goal celebration.

But the best wan was Argentina 1978 it was like carnival time with the ticker tape and toilet roll decorations.

These two things are facts and not up for discussion.✔

  7. Delaneys Dunky @ 8:59 pm,

I know… just thought the guy needed support – not your issue…

Changing the subject, I’ve been thinking today – there have been no updates or further dates mentioned by the SFA in regard to the Rangers 2011 licencing issue – this is not good. You have to assume the SFA are up to their old tricks.

The debate has been raging on at TSFM as you can imagine. Fholk won’t be surprised to know Auldhied, Barcabhoy et al are holding their own, however there is one Rangers supporting poster, in particular, who claims to be in the know and states that the Rangers application for a UEFA licence in 2011 is no longer an issue.

He claims and bear in mind he’s looking from a Rangers perspective, that on a “technicality” Rangers claim that they had no overdue payables at the 31-March 2011 is technically correct – even though they owed HMRC £2.8M in PAYE payments.

After the Rangers Tax Case and Craig Whyte trial ended with results and revelations that put the Scottish footballing authorities in a bad light, the demands by Celtic, the SPFL and others for a Judicial Review was met with a blank by the SFA – they promised an enquiry into to the RFC 2011 European licence as way of a bone…

Not much of a bone I grant you but if a Rangers supporting poster over on TSFM is to be believed, we are not going to get our bone.

He asserts that while the SFA Compliance Officer, who has spent 8.5 months looking this was inquiring, Sevco Rangers argued there was a “technicality” that meant from certain perspectives, the money owed to HMRC was not strictly speaking overdue.

He asserts that although it took him 8.5 months to ascertain this, the CO thinks the matter is so clear cut, he doesn’t think it’s a matter for Judicial Panel consideration.

The fact is we don’t know what’s happening. So should we believe him, this self confessed insider at Rangers…

Well why not? It tallies with Sevco Rangers statements, it fits with the corrupt SFA’s m.o. but mostly it ties in with the revised charges levelled at Rangers in May.

It also ties in with the bunker down secretive mentality that we are seeing now and reigned between Whyte’s stitch-up and the LNS Commission Determinations; where all sorts of intrigues were being hatched, including (but not limited too:) the 5 way agreement and “imperfectly” registered players.

So what’s happened to our bone? Have they taken it back, chewed over it, sucked out the marrow and buried it?

    Looks like it to me…

Now for those who don’t know, the 5 way agreement has wrongdoings of Ranger Football Club that can effect Sevco amongst other things they have – CW Excempt acts and CW Enduring acts. This is what Sevco meant when they said they had agreement that they could not be held accountable for these latest charges.

Now if this process is REGANISED and it has ALL his hallmarks – how would the SFA be going about this?

They would start where they always start – what is the best outcome for the Real Rangers Men?

So let’s see, what does it mean in this case when it comes to the issues around the Rangers 2011 UEFA licence it’s; what would be best for Sevco Rangers F.C?

Well a huge issue and serious sanctions would be forth coming if Rangers were found guilty of submitting a bogus licence application and could well face sanctions if any wrongdoing in relation to the WTC was discovered before 6 May 2011, this would be outside CW Exempt acts and Sevco would be accountable.

If Rangers are found to be in a very serious breach after 6 May 2011, say a fraudulent withholding of the WTC monies/information Sevco could be accountable and in line for sanctions under CW Enduring acts.

    But and its a big one…I can’t lie…

If Rangers are charged with breaches after 6-May-2011 and they are not deemed very serious then NO sanctions can be brought against Sevco Rangers.

Of course by the look of the charges and the date of the alleged “offences” levelled at Rangers AS THINGS STAND this is exactly the scenario we are looking at.

Which means the Real Rangers Men win again on a “technical” knock-out.

    Hail Hail

  12. Chairbhoy – of course there was a technicality – they were rankers – that’s enough for normal rules not to apply

Why no red card for the tackle at the penalty? You don’t get a clearer goal scoring chance than that.

Good coaching can overcome teams technical and skill limitations.

Coaches that maximize their talent pool are few and far between.

    Serious football question

Neymar gets pelters for sometimes going down easily (diving) …. who is the bigger cheat the Denmark defender who just stopped the player from rolling the ball into an empty net by taking him out ????

Or the fact that nobody remembers Jorgensen’s name so he isn’t a cheat and Schemichels son is the hero

    fickle football fan

  18. GFTB

To be fair the defender did try and win the ball – it wasn’t a hack down. bur you have an interesting point – and yes Neymar is a diver

    Cathedral

The rule was changed a few years ago. It is a penalty and a red card if the foul is deemed to be deliberate. But if the ref feels there was a legitimate attempt to play the ball, then it is now a penalty and a yellow card.

  20. cathedral view on

ITV Commentator answers my question on the red card. Apparently that was a fair attempt to win the ball and therefore only merits a yellow card.

Looked like a cynical professional foul from my vantage point.

Whether he tried to get the ball or not he couldn’t get it ….

    Blatant cheating (in my eyes)

By the way I would have wanted a Celtic centre half to do the exact same to give us a chance of not losing a goal but it’s still cheating :-)

  23. GERRYFAETHEBRIG

    Comparison is not really valid.

Neymar cheats consistently to gain advantage.

Jorgensen made a last gasp tackle to stop opponent scoring.Does he do this consistently?

It was a foul and he deserved red.

The ref chose not to apply the rules.

Regardless of the outcome, Modric is a great footballer. Great vision and skill.
