Dembele signs for Celtic

249

Brendan Rodgers first signing for Celtic has been confirmed as striker Moussa Dembele (19), who was out of contract at Fulham. Capped up all French youth levels, Moussa was subject to a £6m bid from Tottenham in January, but Fulham chose to retain the player in their fight for Championship survival.

Sought-after players are seldom available out of contract, and even less-seldom come to Scotland, so this is a bit of a coup for Brendan’s Celtic.

I spent most of the day telling people this one works on paper but that I was concerned at his age. Then I realised he’s a French contemporary of Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman (4 weeks older than Moussa). I’ll put my ageism back in its box.

Welcome to Celtic, Moussa, and well done to everyone who pulled the deal together.

  1. Looks like the `keeper and back four are a given along with Joe Allen,Roberts,Moussa, and Griff the Quiff (TBB).

  2. I honestly couldn’t pick a middy, I think BR will play a 433, the back 4 picks itself, the front 3 would be Paddy R, Griff and Mouss, but the mid, not a scooby.

We still have wheans to choose from, getting the combination right won’t be easy but will be key.

I think we are probably all in agreement with that. It will be different teams for different opponents, I suppose but I am a fan of familiarity. I t will have to be In Brendan We Trust 0:-)

It’s a problem having so many to choose from, keeping them happy for a start.

BR has a job on his hands for that reason alone, he really needs to trim down the squad, we will see where we stand then, but I don’t think he will manage it for a few windows yet.

Think Brendan said that he doesn’t really do squad rotation, and likes to go with a settled squad or team if you like, maybe we will get a better idea once he gets a preferred formation.

However am sure he knows more than me:-)

So its “in Brendan we trust ” lol

  6. What about:

    Gordon

    Lustig Duffy Sviatchenko Tierney

    Brown Allen Armstrong

    Roberts Griffiths Dembele.

That leaves out a couple of my favourites ( Bitton andMcGregor) and I would also like to see Christie, Henderson and Allen given some game time but, on paper, that looks a very dependable eleven.

Can you ask me again tomorrow? I thought it likely I would have forgotten someone but I am truly surprised it was Joe Hansen. Maybe, after all, we will have to play the 343 I suggested earlier!

  9. I have a feeling that McGregor will figure under Brendan, he plays with his head up, always looking to pass and move, one of the few who we have that I can say that about, far too many are too static imo, he can also chip in with a goal or two.

He prob won’t even get on the bench now :-)

  10. I wonder what Johansen would be like at full back if Lustig breaks down?

So try as I might I cant see much game time for.

Efe, KC, CM .Joe Hanson , JF or Scott A.

    and of course GMS.

Most of the others not mentioned will be on the bench and .

    Interesting times ahead.

You are clearly suffering Celtic withdrawal symptoms!

Was looking through the forthcoming European Championship fixtures on the wee ap on my phone and in amongst it all…..my heart soared when i saw this……Thurs 30 June….NK Celje v Celtic…….aaaahhhhhhh………Celtic time again :)

It must be what rain feels like after a drought.

  14. If we were playing a SPL side with a midfield composed of any five from o:

    Forrest, McGregor, Christie,Allan,Rogic,Henderson,Ajer,Johansen and GMS

we would be rightfully concerned. These guys are players left out of some of our favoured selection.

Do we have too many decent players?

    JJ

  15. Thunder Road,

I am ( suffering withdrawal symptoms) ? What about SFTB? He is looking forward to friendlies in Slovenia!

Right, I think that will do for me this evening.

    Goodnight all,

  17. Had a quick look on the ole Follow Follow. Our Moussa has them worried for sure. You know when the huns are being logical about him being decent, then he must be a player.

  18. I’ve liked the look of Armstrong from day 1, but as last season wore on (like most of the pool of midfielders), not helped by the lack of a run of games, and often being played out of position, I began to have my doubts.

He can be physically tough, but at times appears to have a fragile temperament, fading out of games when I hoped he would make his mark.

I wonder what our midfield will look like by, say, late August.

This will be a big season for only a few of that midfield band of brothers …
