Dilemma of youth development

1406

I know squad numbers are limited but I’m disappointed Eoghan O’Connell has not been retained. In his performances early last season he displayed the attributes of a modern-day footballing central defender. He has a future in the game and will do well wherever he goes next.

The perennial dilemma of youth development is that while teams want to improve performances NOW, they also need to leave space for worthy development squad candidates to grow into. Kieran Tierney got there, but the truth is, Celtic had been trying to sign a left back for year but were unable find anyone of the necessary standard. If we did, Kieran, Eoghan, would never have had the chance.

Gene .. ha! I think that is maybe what CQN has been missing of late! I dont remember too many divergent opinions on that issue!

  8. I know it’s a Michael Buble lyric but….

“Golden haze, Another morning feels like yesterday…

End of may; Now you’re gone and there’s still bills to pay.

And you know it doesn’t help to make believe

    you’re sitting next to me.

It doesn’t help to make believe that you are right behind me

    Saying it’s okay.

Longer days, More time to sit and watch the pendulum sway.

In quiet rage I’m staring at this empty notebook page…

In times like these you feel like you are done with feeling,

You feel you want to stop the pain from healing

Because you feel like you’re the only one who ever felt this way.

Some days in a daze, there’s brighter days.

Funny how the feeling never stays,

But I know I’ll have to come to terms when I’m awake,

Thinking about you is the icing on the cake…

Makes me realize the fact you’re gone for good

    For goodness sake.

Golden haze, Another morning feels like yesterday.

End of may, A year is gone and I still feel this way,

And when we meet again I’ll ask you how you’re doing

And you’ll say fine and ask me how I’m doing

And then I’ll lie and I’ll say ordinary, It’s just an ordinary day.”

Starry …. Wasn’t Ursula Andress swiss? If so, it wasn’t always verboten. Aahh… the good old days.

  12. Right you lot, just when you thought your day couldn’t get any better I have some news for you.

After tomorrow morn I’m taking a break from the routine of the ole daily EK weather REPORTS. I think I’ve been posting these for something like 7 years now and I’ve often thought of chucking it. I mean, what purpose does it servve, really?

But at various CQN gatherings a number of folk have encouraged me to carry on, not because they actually cares about the EK weather but, rather, that it signified the start of a new day on the Blog and dare I say it they didn’t want to read further back into the ole Moonhowler territory! Their words, not mine. However, these very kind sentiments encouraged me to continue with my rubbish.

Of course for the past year or so we have had the very excellent fellow South Curver with his ‘word for the day’. And, just as significantly, we have Ianbhoy929 with his equally relevant weather reports from East Devon.

Both of those fine posters can be regarded as setting the ‘new day’ bookmarks, I’m sure you would agree.

It’ll be hard to resist posting each morning as I will still log on and read the blog over my breakfast. But I’ve ran out of new words to describe the micro climate of EK.

Obviously this is NOT a flounce as I’ll continue to post rubbish about, amongst other things, my unsuccessful betting tips, my ParkRun time, the Scotland National Team, and my respect for Gilbert O’Sullivan, Gerry Rafferty and many others. And that’s apart from Goals For Shay and CQN Couponeers…

The earth will continue to turn I’m sure.

For now, it’s a fairly bright, calm and mild evening here in ole EK.

hey you lot … no slagging off the Canadians …. at least we had the good sense not to vote Tory! and Michael Buble isn’t so bad … in fact, I quite like this song … good song to sing while driving in the car on a nice summer day with the top down (the car, not mine … before any of you go blind) … and the video is set in the KILLARNEY market … that’s got to count for something!

Celtic’s pitchside announcer, Leddy Bhoy (a neighbour of mine) does a fine Michael Buble Karaoke and a couple of years beat me in a sing off at the end of a Curryoke night.

One of the many reasons I don’t quite get Mr Buble ;-)
