Dilemma of youth development

1406

I know squad numbers are limited but I’m disappointed Eoghan O’Connell has not been retained. In his performances early last season he displayed the attributes of a modern-day footballing central defender. He has a future in the game and will do well wherever he goes next.

The perennial dilemma of youth development is that while teams want to improve performances NOW, they also need to leave space for worthy development squad candidates to grow into. Kieran Tierney got there, but the truth is, Celtic had been trying to sign a left back for year but were unable find anyone of the necessary standard. If we did, Kieran, Eoghan, would never have had the chance.

I think SF have always seen their politics in an isle of ireland context, never has been about uk parliament or its participation in it imo.

  2. I know SF won’t take their seats at Westminster but wouldn’t it be great if they changed their minds to support Labour and nullify the DUP. Ghod help us with that lot in cahoots with the Tories.

Jamesgang …. only 47? you are still a pup! too young to be scunnered completely!

The DUP and their 17th century thinking will finish the Tories IMHO

Just having that exact conversation with the Neff now..

They’d be insane the Tories to enter into that particular deal with the devil..

  6. Parkheadcumsalford,

SF would take their seats at Westminster if they did not have to swear allegiance to the crown.

Yes, The Rangers* are only credited with Scotland’s National co-efficient. I’d love to agree that this is because UEFA are treating them as a new club. However, as Rangers (see what I did here?) haven’t played in Europe for the last 5 seasons then even if they had survided and were now entering as the same club, the co-efficient would still only be that of the national team.

So we simply can’t relly deduce anything from their ranking.

  9. Just another day in scotland…..

    ……………………………………………………………….

It comes as police confirmed that the Dave King was not being investigated after it was claimed the Rangers chairman had paid around £20,000 for private mails and other documents allegedly “hacked” from Craig Whyte.

  10. Quonno, I feel fine today, thank you for asking,in my opinion any effort to put a Coalition of Labour, Lib Dem, SNP, Sinn Féin and maybe throw in Plaid Cymru for good measure would be crazy.

Best let the Tories stew in their own mess supported by the enlightened 10 from Ulster.

There will be another Election in about 12 months and that is what Labour should be gearing itself for

I’m happy with the 7 seats for Sinn Fein and the fact that every constituency that borders the Republic now has a Sinn Fein MP.

If you redraw the Map giving the Republic the Sinn Féin constituencies it’s one single mass of land pushing the Orange into a smaller glorified County Council area. We also of course have West Belfast & John Finucane came within circa 2000 votes of toppling Dodds, despite fact that the Unionist Party did not run a candidate to avoid splitting the Loyalist vote whilst the SDLP did run taking 2000 Nationalist votes..

  11. How does Teresa feel now having been forced to sup from her own poisoned chalice?

Ok, need to rely on the letter from Uefa’s Mr Traverso saying they are a new club/company.

  13. Hi CORKCELT

Long tradition of varying hues of Nationalism vote splitting.

Have gone off in a hissy fit yesterday, you have missed me asking your view of abstaining Irishmen. Fitt and McGuire contributing to Callaghan’s downfall and ushering in Maggie Thatcher.

    Just asking.

I’m sure Celtic PLC will make a statement on bringing SFA accountability to the fore and vindicating res 12. In the next life.

  19. Less than 24 hours to kick off.

And I expect to be watching in Englandshire!

Celtic likely to provide almost half of the team perhaps – Gordon, Tierney, Brown, Armstrong and Griffiths.

I understand we last defeated Engerland in the last century.

It’s time the British voting system was digitized. What’s the worst that could happen?

You talk about reality, a dose of reality when it comes to N Irish politics would do you no end of good mi amigo.

With a long family history in New Lodge Road area I have a fair idea of reality N Irish politics.

How times have changed for the oldest international in the world. I will watch it enthusiastically in the pub, but there is no doubt interest has deminished.

Still the troops will be on the move and there will be a full house. The beefeaters from Englandshire and the Tory , sorry Tartan Army from the North of Scotland will be making their way as we speak.

Good luck Scotland, and in particular those who normally wear the hoops.

Great response, stick to fitba (mind the langers:))

    Quonno,

Here’s the Sinn Fein Manifesto for the 2017 Election to get you started. I think you stated yesterday ‘I don’t need any Irish History lessons.’

Your comments on here (and language) suggest the opposite is the case. Maybe look at a Foundation Course in Celtic Studies/ Irish History to begin with.

I see 40(?) year old Shay Given has been released by Stoke …. if he isn’t looking for too much money, would be be a decent deputy for CG? Still seems fit, so I would think he’s a good professional … and has experience, so wouldn’t be overawed if called into duty…. or maybe he had his day …. just throwing it out there.

  25. This recent exchange between QUonno and Corkcelt shows that those on either side of the Irish Sea that mistake Scottish Nationalism and Irish Nationalism/Republicanism as brother movements or mirror images of each other, are sadly mistaken.

I cannot believe the Scottish Nationalists on here are trying to give lessons to Irish Republicanism.

    Bizarre

  26. We are about to see Theresa May scrambling around to patch a deal with 10 DUP MPs, a collection of far right climate-change deniers, homophobics and sectarians.

They must be wishing that they could strick a deal with a more liberal and progresssive group ……

    such as UKIP

  27. What is the point of S F, people vote for them,as to get a united Ireland, which we all know won’t happen,Gerry Adams and the rest of his party, should take there seat’s in Parliament, and care more for the people who voted for them in Northern Ireland, not the Republic.

starry …. as a spry 51 year old, I take umbrage with that!

I’m waiting for a few more years, then will let the DeadyBears know I’m available … just so I can turn them down.
