Dougie Dougie and SFA cover-up

897

As a consequence of items relating to lies told by former referee Dougie McDonald’s no longer being found by searches through Google’s UK portal, while reaming available on the US portal, a suspicion arose that McDonald has used recent EU ruling to have these items expunged from the search engine.

During a Dundee United-Celtic game in 2010 McDonald awarded Celtic a penalty, then quickly changed his mind.  He lied to Neil Lennon after the game, and to the SFA supervisor about the circumstances which caused him to change his mind.  Celtic Quick News published an excerpt from the supervisor’s report, which was based on information McDonald subsequently admitted was false.

Having admitted to a lie, and under pressure from Celtic, McDonald resigned later in the year, but the greater stench was that of cover-up.  Having set the chain of events in motion, McDonald realised his error and admitted what he did to the SFA on the day of the game.

Having lied, he quickly came clean, but the actions of the SFA were far more serious.  With knowledge of the lie, the SFA were now in ownership of it.  They should have told McDonald to apologise to Neil Lennon and the referee supervisor.  Instead, they publicly reaffirmed the lie.

Even after the cover-up came to light, the SFA continued to close ranks on Celtic, faces were set to stone.  If Celtic didn’t know their place when it came to the dark arts of the SFA, they became acutely aware of it then.  Nothing could ever be the same again.

I have sympathy for McDonald.  He made a mistake but quickly did the right thing.  His name is tarnished largely as a consequence of the actions of his superiors.  If he called Neil Lennon the next day to extend the apology he gave to the SFA, the matter may have ended there and then.  He was not an innocent victim of an SFA cover-up, but he was a kind of victim.

The fight to change the SFA goes on.  Peter Lawwell is now on the board and some of the faces have moved on, but it is not a healthy body.  The vast majority of the 93 member clubs are not conspiratorial in nature and have no ill towards Celtic or any other club, but overhauling the labyrinth of committees, with vested interests which have been decades in the making, will look like pushing water uphill to anyone committed to reform.

Our interests are best served leaving the SFA behind, and we’re not alone in that.

Excitement builds as the 10-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day takes place tomorrow in Aberdour, with Frank McGarvey and Len Murray!

This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.

The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. Our thanks to @BarryMcGonigle for the image on the canvas and OPG Graphics for creating the work.

We could ask him but suspect on legal advice he’d would not agree to come on CQN.

On a separate point, it always amazes me that some people on here seem to wish Celtic nothing but the worst. I have always found that it is in the bad times as a Celtic supporter that you really understand just how much the club means to us.

By the way, BRTH is hatching a plot to organise something in Edinburgh for CQNers prior to the Champions League Qualifiers. Drink will be involved, he’s organised a hotel near the stadium and he is talking about a CQN Marquee. When I say it is a hotel, apparently it is a LODGE!

CQN at the Edinburgh Lodge! Who’d have thought it?

    http://www.edinburghlodge.co.uk/

Places will be limited. BRTH will advise in due course!

Just finished reading back, didn’t see the game myself. Based on all those who posted updates seems that there are some positives from our first match under Ronny and John. The goalkeeper, three goals and some good play from some of our younger players. Can’t ask for much more than that first week in July.

  3. Bournesoup…..

See we were consistent in Europe at least then after the pre season…..

  4. I remember last seasons pre-season and remember posting my anger at how these imposters were disgracing my beloved hoops.

I was cautioned by wiser men on here that pre-season games are about fitness , trying things out and giving some young Bhoys a run out.

We won this evening and I realise that it don’t really mean much in the grand scheme.

But I do take it as a sign of impending glory!!!

  5. Like Tallybhoy, I didn’t see the game, appreciated the updates on here from you bhoys.

Seems we will be playing more attacking football this season, always a joy to watch as long as we win. :)

  6. Craig Gordon …..

    Welcome to Celtic…..

Great keeper in your pomp…….good luck and please stay fit.

Murray Park lunches might need working off a wee bit …..but worry ye not……No Steakbakes will be allowed under JC…….

Belated welcome to Craig Gordon, fine goalkeeper at his best. Hope he reaches full fitness with us, and glad he has joined the Bhoys on the mini-tour. I am assuming big Fraser will be back with us soon, could be wrong, so he will have his work cut out to even make it on the bench. Boruc, his main rival back in the day, for different reasons, lost his way after, (possibly even before) he left Scotland and he has redeemed himself in the EPL. All is possible for Craig, and if he has Stevie Woods confidence, he will have mine.

  13. and then predictably……….things turn towards a darker,

Just got an email from taggsybhoy re the sclaffbaw. Part of the mail mentions dress code and no football branded gear. I’m gutted, I’d just packed my Celtic onesie.

    WTF will I wear now?

    :-(

  16. Celtic need to keep both Forster and Gordon.

And hopefully Gordon can rediscover his old form and keep big Fraser on his toes !!

    Hail hail !!

  22. While one swallow does’nt make a summer some mightily impressive performances tonight.Looks like we’ll be watching a new style Celtic this season obviously remains to be seen how sucessful it will be but first look is promising. Hail Hail Hebcelt

  23. With the Craig Gordon debate earlier, my main/major concern was that Lennybhoy didn’t text us prior to the signing :-)

Now I am usually a glass half full Ghuy with everything Celtic

But, Am I missing something ?

How can you be happy with this signing ? (Must be our super scout, doing his usual great job)

A keeper who will be 32 later this year, ok not old for a keeper, consider though, he has played less than 5 ( yes less than 5) competitive games since Dec 2010

Hey, but he’s and internationalist (2010 last game there), and was worth £9m to a EPL desperate team (2007 I believe ?)

So after virtually 4 years out the game, he becomes a Celtic player, and some claim he will become our no1 ? When Big Fraser is sold, wow

Overwhelmed ( oooops, underwhelmed) I am, but will wish him good luck, and welcome to Celtic

Did I miss anything there :-)

“Is this the start of the official CQN Travel Cub for European Games”? Ha!

Years ago, my old man, god rest him and keep him safe in the pubs in heaven, started something called the European Sporting Club which was effectively a club of people who travelled to every Celtic away game.

So all the same people got on a plane together and stayed in the same hotels for every away game in Europe.

It was this kind of thing I referred to at the start of my part of Willie Wallace’s book when he would take orders outside Celtic Park after every European game on the scientific and administrative basis of guys just shouting ” 3 for Amsterdam Jimmy!” and the likes.

    They were more innocent days.

The Edinburgh malarkey mentioned by Wining Captains earlier is based on the fact that I was asked if I knew anyone with Licensed premises near to Murrayfield — for some reason that is bewildering to me, i am often asked about licensed premises!

As it turns out, by God, I do indeed of a small bespoke hotel conveniently situated between Haymarket station and Murrayfield and so today I asked the owner how he would feel if we filled his function suite with CQN’ers before the European games through there!

Strangely enough, the wee man concerned would be delighted to have the trade and revealed that he puts on such hospitality for the rugger games.

Of course, I mentioned the conversation to WC who of course was straight on here like Broadcast News.

I have no idea if it would be of any interest to anyone but the place could hold maybe 100 or so for a wee drink or 6 and a sausage roll or something.

Might be the start of an idea.

    ACGR

Just for get the onesie and wear those Yves St Laurent Greena and White Boxer shorts plus a tie — that should satisfy taggsy’s dress code — it is Fife after all and folk with matching shoes are looked on as toffs!

  27. Acgr,

Just wear the onesie as Jammies at the weekend, my kids know your daft as a brush anyway…my nephew might be in for a shock though, even though he’s been pre-warned. :)

  28. Sure a great time will be had by many at Aberdour tomorrow…..

Don’t let the first two par 3’s kid ya Bhoys……not as easy as you would think.

    Enjoy yerselves …..Hail Hail

Re-Craig Gordon, no text as the Cat was out the bag Ronny was appointed. 31. Thanks for the goals SOAL.

Someone posted earlier that they didn’t expect or want to see too much of a difference in the way we have played in the last few seasons.

I wouldn’t agree with that. I often thought we were slow and laboured when getting the ball forward.

Tonight’s goals seemed, to me anyway, to be examples of getting the ball forward or into the box much more quickly.

    Well done Celtic.
