‘DREAM COME TRUE’: JOY BHOY JENZ AND THE CELTIC CUDDLE

0

MORITZ JENZ revealed it was a dream come true to score on his Celtic debut – and then go and take a running jump!

The on-loan German centre-back headed in the second goal to propel the champions to a 3-1 victory over Ross County in Dingwall yesterday.

There were only six minutes left on the clock when Greg Taylor and Filipe Jota worked a quick one-two at a left-wing corner-kick and the Portuguese personality whipped in a cross which was nodded expertly by Jenz past the stranded Ross Laidlaw.

The towering defender then raced straight towards the Hoops followers to throw himself into the celebrating throng as he shared the joy.

HIGH AND MIGHTY…Moritz Jenz rises above friend and foe to power in a header for Celtic’s second goal against Ross County in Dingwall.

It was a vital intrusion from the back-four operator who has agreed a season-long temporary deal from French side Lorient.

Ange Postecoglou’s title-winners had taken the lead through a deadly strike from Kyogo Furuhashi shortly after the break, but that had been nullified when Alex Iacovitti nodded in the equaliser.

But the visitors rallied in their now-customary fashion and Jenz put them back into the lead before Liel Abada curled in the killer third goal.

The new Bhoy said: “It was amazing to play my first game in front of a fantastic away crowd and then to score, it was like a dream come true.

HOOP HOOP HOORAY…Moritz Jenz hails his goal as he heads for the travelling support.

“Of course, you must have a good relationship with the fans because they back you up even in difficult moments.

“Today was difficult, we were pushed to the end and they helped us. It was incredible to celebrate with them at the goal.

“I’ve always wanted to score in a British game and run into the crowd. It was amazing. It took some time to get out, but I did.”

Jenz, speaking to the Sunday Mail, continued: “We knew we had to win, so I wanted to get in there and score the goal.

“You hope to get on the end of the ball and I timed it well. I showed real desire to score. We always believed we would win even with six minutes to go. At Celtic, you have to win games so we believed until the end.”

Jenz, who was also booked on a memorable baptism, added: “It was my first experience of Scottish football and I expected them to be very physical. We knew they’d play first-time balls in behind us and try to win second balls.

ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL…Moritz Jenz salutes the Celtic fans after the 3-1 triumph in the Highlands.

“That was a very interesting combat but you have to play your own game and be brave.

“It was quicker than I expected, it was quick and direct. It’s a different style for me, but some teams play like this. We play in a different way, attacking, brave football.

“I now need to continue to train hard and if I get the chance to play, give my best. It’s a team game. I’ll keep pushing and the coach will decide who plays.

“I’m looking forward to continuing playing like that. I want to be confident and consistent this season.”
