Today’s Telegraph assures us Newco Rangers chief executive, Graham Wallace, is set to leave the club with his plans to raise £4m at a pending share issue still in the balance. The newspaper further asserts the club is a “toxic brand” and is trying to secure an emergency loan from Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley.
The club, which informed the Court of Session on Friday that it had only £1.2m cash left, and last night informed the Telegraph it was losing £1m per month, requires vastly more money than the £4m they are struggling to raise in order to finish the season.
Some credit is due to the Daily Record for their splash with photo and leader, “Rangers director Sandy Easdale and a criminal wanted by Interpol tried to negotiate an Ibrox bailout yesterday”. They are reporting two years after Paul McConville’s blog initially broke the news of said Interpol-interested character, Rafat Rizvi.
Rizvi, who can take refuge in the UK as we don’t have an extradition treaty with Indonesia, is allegedly wanted for corruption, money laundering and banking crime, denies the charges, which he has already been convicted of. He should fit in quite well.
As we said at the weekend, irrespective of short-term events, the long-term fundamentals remain unchanged. The only thing to be decided is which of the characters hovering around the carcase will get to pick on the bones.

Natknow so the threat is about the registration. That will simply be a tax avoidance move, paperwork. You would expect that. So the implication is weaker than the implied job losses. I hope. I want more jobs in Scotland not less.

I apologise for this not coming across as I intended late last night, I blame the Merlot.
My point was meant to be, that if private sector jobs are lost (as in Livibhoys case), the option of being a bin lorry driver or sweep the streets (fine and necessary jobs that they are) may not be an option if private sector jobs are not there to pay for our council workers.
I hope that’s better, sorry again if offence caused, I do not mean to offend anyone.

Same uncertain future but relying on the powers in London to take care of things. When I look at the Scandy countries, Germany and Netherlands as well, and compare with Scotland under modern uk governance I think we can do better ourselves.

BBC reporting of referendum is disgracefully biased.
The RBS and Lloyds story is only being selectively reported. Lloyds HQ has been in London for over 100 years. RBS issued a letter confirming no job losses and no change for day to day account operations. BBC’s source last night was not RBS or Lloyds but Treasury.

No – again – the February statement was much less detailed and set out what they intended to do as contingency actions. The statement issued yesterday has a lot more information on what has been done and information about regulation, tax and transaction processing. They have a regulatory and legal duty to ensure shareholders and customers are kept informed.
I’d rather have more information than no information from them.

As regards the banks, it is perfectly sensible that they make a range of contingencies, including moving to England. It may even be that this is the favoured option. But no bank will make a commitment to such a move before they have to, i.e. in the transition period.
Note also that the major RBS shareholder is the UK government (which owns 81%). The UK government has a 25% share in Lloyds. It would take a lot of courage on behalf of any financial institution to issue a statement which goes against the wishes of your major shareholder, especially when yesterday’s statements focused on shareholder value (!). I don’t believe that the banks are noted for their courage.
No, I don’t believe it’s a conspiracy (despite both banks issuing statements on the same day), but I do believe that the banks are taking the option which will not land them in trouble with their bosses.

You want my own personal vie of whether the Purdah rules were broken and how bad that was.
I think it is a possibility and, if proven, will be a severe o.g. by the No Campaign, even if it was caused by confusion over how those rules apply in a Scottish only referendum as opposed to a UK wide election process. If so, it is a mistake that could only have been made by one side as I think the Yessers have restricted themselves to bringing up “foreign” celebrities rather than “foreign” politicians.
I will, however, wait until the complaints have been heard and evaluated before my “possible” hardens into a “definitely yes” or “definitely know” verdict. After all, the Sevco fans who made the State Aid complaints thought that an EU investigation meant proof of wrongdoing rather than proof that the law will investigate evidence.
Are you willing to wait for the verdict before you decide that your grounds are proven?
