Edouard pushed out Celtic transfer record

911

Celtic have activated a clause in their loan deal for Odsonne Edouard (20) with Paris Saint-Germain to sign the player on a four-year permanent contract.  The deal will cost the club an initial £4.5m but the add-ons which follow will soon make the deal the club’s highest transfer fee paid.

To give some perspective, Celtic last broke their transfer fee record with the £6m purchase of Neil Lennon in 2000.

Watching Odsonne develop during his loan period has been an education.  Brendan Rodgers put Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths on the bench to allow Odsonne the game time he needed to grow.  His early-season rustiness was history by March, when he came off the bench when Celtic were down to 10 men at Ibrox, brushed aside what defences there was, to score a memorable winner.

The last player to match our record transfer fee was John Hartson in 2001.  Like John then, Odsonne is third choice striker, so the work does not stop here.

Great business, well done all concerned.

Personally,I’m all in favour of equality, but as you say, that doesn’t fit the bill.

    Great question you asked earlier,btw.

  4. DD. Sorry if my post sounded like a repremand. Actually I was alluding in a roundabout way to me telling Jim to have the flute player silently play You,’ll. Never walk a lone. You know the result. One of the best Communion moments many of us ever experienced. Hail. Hail.

Very powerful post. I was on holiday recently with the family, whilst we were in the midst of somewhere nice my mother commented that the obvious wealth on display was somewhat sickening. Unfortunately the gap between the rich and poor is only going to get bigger.

  7. WITS – I was specifically referring to Thatcher, although I have a genuine fear that history is about to repeat itself.

Just an observation/opinion that lots of people happen to agree with.

Same as lots of your opinions you post on here, that I think are outrageous – however I don’t protest and complain about them.

That came about by someone querying about whether young played in any games in the 66/67 season.

I looked it up and thought I’d find out for him,but I became engrossed by the small amount of players Celtic used that season, I was at all the League games that year plus I went to Lisbon for the final ,but I didn’t realise we played so few players that season, could be a record.

  24. Belfast last weekend was a wonderful trip for a variety of reasons. Selfishly I got to spend a significant amount of time with my Bhoy who is now a CQN convert. Leaving Glasgow at 8.20am and meeting Brendan Rodgers in a Belfast hotel lobby at 910am sums up how the weekend went.

A tour of ‘The Crum’; St. Matthew’s with the wonderful CQN crew-getting left there-bonus of an extra pint with Raymac; rescued by Gearoid and thoroughly spoiled by Gearoid on the Falls tour in the wonderful company of Dena; Pints and stew in The Felons and then Cosgroves for an impromptu sing-song-Magic.

Sunday brought another chat with Brendan and Matthew and I experienced the ‘Gearoid Tour’ alongside his patient young son. Wonderful. Missed the Murph and the Rock and hope this will be remedied next time.

    Thanks to all involved.

I think Brendan also thinks this young mob could maybe give us more terrific times

  26. I agree that you could give women equal pay with men for office work or any kind of work that you sit on your bahookie and give men and women the same pay for manual work and a tonnage bonus for the amount of work you do. If women can do the same amount of tonnage then they deserve the same money.

  27. Sips – Yes chief seen it.

Didn’t know Ray left Glasgow at such a young age – he never lost his accent though.

Incredible footballer and a good Tim – Wish he had played for Celtic.
