EX-CELT IN DEMAND

FORMER Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic is suddenly in demand as he continues his search for a new club since leaving the champions in the summer.

The Croatian centre-back played his last game for the Hoops in the 3-1 Europa League exit against FC Copenhagen at Parkhead almost a year ago.

Simonovic was allowed to leave with the club deciding against activating a 12-month option on his contract.

The 26-year-old, who cost £3million when Ronny Deila signed him from Dinamo Zagreb in September 2015, has seen moves to Turkey and his homeland collapse due to ongoing knee problems that blighted his stay in Glasgow.

However, despite his obvious lack of competitive action, Southampton are apparently eyeing a shock move following their recent defeats when they shipped nine goals against Manchester United in midweek and lost 3-2 against Newcastle at the weekend.

Plus there is interest from Bundesliga outfits Stuttgart and Augsburg, according to reports in media outlet Goal Germany.

Simunovic, who won five titles at Celtic, is keen to have his future settled and a move to the south coast club to team up again with former Hoops team-mates Fraser Forster and Stuart Armstrong would mark an astonishing comeback.
