Faux grievances, summer shocks

478

European football forever shocks, never more so that when Hibs and Hearts eliminate two teams you have heard of.  Rosenborg’s star rises and fades with the clock, but they are still vastly more experienced in Europe than Hearts.  Coming from two goals down in the tie to win last night was an heroic result.

The ground under Easter Road has been rumbling since the season kicked off.  Defeats in both league games to St Mirren and Motherwell, on top of the away loss in Andora in the last Conference League qualification round, suggested Hibernian would lose to Luzern, with Lee Johnson packing his bags before the Festival ends.  If he could win next week’s home leg against Aston Villa, they would erect a statue to their diminutive manager – or maybe a life size figurine.

Tottenham’s Irish hero from the 50s and 60s, Danny Blanchflower, once said, “We aim to equalise before the other team score”.  It’s a brilliant quote and I forever see echoes of it as teams prepare for a loss.  They look for an easy headline, something that shows them on the front foot, before an impending defeat.

For evidence, just look at the headlines Newco have made for themselves this morning.  They’re all ‘demandy’ – for tickets to Celtic Park, proffering faux grievances.  700 tickets is not a safe allocation for these games, I have been there and can testify.  That lot really need to take crowd safety more seriously.

7,000 is the correct allocation.  700 is an arbitrary nonsense.  If forced, I would offer 19 tickets, nine each representing our two nine-in-a-row campaigns and one for our European Cup win.  Let 19 of them honour Celtic in this unique way.  I am being ridiculous, of course, but they started it.

All we need to see a resolution here is patience.  When I first started going to Ibrox, Rangers were rubbish and Celtic fans were welcomed at three sides of the stadium.  The Broomloan Stand, half the Standing Enclosure, a third of the Main Stand and the unsold part of the Govan Stand.  You can see the stars aligning again!

  1. Being a young player at Celtic trying to break through, lets be honest, the support just wont tolerate dropping points or losing cup ties, we have no patience for this.

I found it fascinating that the bhoy who went to Bayern and there was wailing around how can celtic let this happen, but now his loan is out to Queens Park ?

I mean seriously, Bayern think that is a development plan for the bhoy ?

The bhoy himself is happy to land there, seriously again.

  2. As a ps.

Talking to Liverpool supporter at the beginning of the week, it is a business call, but we always end up talking football.

I told him the story of playing football with Bens granda , Martin of Morton fame, and working with his great granda George, i aksed what he though of Ben.

Well, he is very fast, very direct, has a trick or two, but he will not do, he will get that knocked out of him once the real stuff starts, and unless he grows bigger I dont see what the fuss is about.

Fitba fans whit are we like.

  3. Welsh in 4th place should also put to bed any notion Ange had that Iwata could play as a CH.

I also think Scales is better than Aberdeen, and if he does leave we should try and get our money back from elsewhere. They’ll want both a loan and help with wages too.

    Feck em….

Ditto the other lad Morrison who left for Bayern at the same time, now on loan at Wigan under wee Sean. Both will have a year left when their loans end and unlikely they’ll get extensions at Bayern.

Häcken are an odd outfit though.

    I didn’t think it’s beyond Aberdeen.

It’s just a pity the dons (like Celtic for Sunday) are a wee bit undercooked for such a huge game.

I still think one of Aberdeen or Hearts will win. It would be great to have 2 europa teams and a conference team to complement Celtic in the CL.

That night v 10 of Dundee U at Celtic Park. Classic Celtic of the time doing our best to lose from a position of strength. Like the league in 1980.

Richard Gough actually was some player for that United team mind you.

Rangers went a full 8 seasons without winning the league at that time. Aberdeen won 3. Dundee United and ourselves with 4. Outside of the two 9s it is their longest spell with no wins.

I really enjoyed the competition with the new firm back then but still loved going to Ibrox to see us beating that lot.

I appreciate chairbhoy and glass 2/3 don’t see any govan based clubs as rivals to Celtic.

I get your point re Emery. I had forgotten he was there.

I wasn’t impressed at all by Aberdeen on Sunday against us, but agree that Barry Robson still has a couple to add in the team, so they could well improve, but these games will be to soon for them imo.

I would be happy with Hibs, Aberdeen progressing but not Hearts. I’ve had too many trips to Tynecastle with Celtic to witness how horrible their support is. I hope the Greeks ragdoll them in all honesty.

I think your Emery comment was meant for TEN MEN.

As for “Rangers went a full 8 seasons without winning the league at that time. Aberdeen won 3. Dundee United and ourselves with 4. Outside of the two 9s it is their longest spell with no wins.”

Rangers have now gone 12 seasons without winning the league, a number that will only rise and rise.

We may have to fend off that Sevco lot, but what a healthy lead we have over them in the honours list.

  8. BURNLEY78 @ 2:03 PM,

It was a bit of a cheap shot so apologies for that.

However my feelings are Rangers died in 2012.

I’m in two minds regarding resurgent Sevco, I’d much rather Hibs or Aberdeen took advantage of Rangers demise and really strived to improve

There is profit in being Scotland’s second team.

That didn’t happen, so we now have Sevco making strides, sad but it’s the only thing that will keep our Board on their toes imo

So, apparently Scotland does need a strong Rangers:(

    Hail Hail

  9. These young Celtic players should follow the Andy Robertson pathway

Straight to Queens Park…..cut out the Mittelsmann

    It worked for Andy

    And it works for me

  10. Really sad to see that Vata is leaving. Had high hopes for him in the Hoops and in the green of Ireland. I pray he isn’t about to turn his back on both.

  11. Welsh picks up injury in training today.

Looks like 2 new bhoys on the plastic….

  12. Starfelt sold. Lawal out on loan.

    CCV and now Welsh injured

    Kobayashi just back in training

I think no more CH should be allowed to leave. We only have the 2 new guys Scales and Young Murray left.

Theres still Iwata but not for me

It’s amazing how injuries occur in clusters around positions

  13. A lot of players flatter to deceive, they look the part early on but they never realise their potential, other players are the opposite they are written off early but then develop into fine players.

I know for sure here half the Blog were writing CalMac off when he went to Notts County.

I thought Welsh did very well, when he came on last day, I expect himself & Rocki will start against Killie with Gustaf on the bench.

Good luck in your pursuit of tickets,as you experience it is getting tougher as demand increases and supply is decreasing.

My pal,who is home&away for years was tellin me criteria for Aberdeen game was to attend 14 away games.he got 1 his travel buddy didnt.

I see him tomorrow,if anything changes will let you know.

I’ve missed his probing, thoughtful questions – injuries, transfers and hun tickets.

    The SMSM at its best.

  20. Gustav played on a plastic pitch with his previous club

    From wikipedia

“Borås Arena is a football stadium in Borås, Sweden. It is the home ground of IF Elfsborg and Norrby IF and was opened on 17 April 2005. Borås Arena has an artificial turf pitch, and was changed to the most modern synthetic turf on the market during the UEFA Euro 2012”

He will do fine on the surface if thrown in

The big question is has he had enough time with the squad

And does Rodgers prefer Scales or Iwata due to this??

just a quick reminder that there is no Superbru this week as it’s the League Cup event not the league

I sent my £10 yesterday; how do I get on the system?
