I never met Jimmy McGrory, who died an elderly man when I was 15. I don’t if he was around Celtic Park much in the years immediately beforehand, but I never even saw him. We have many genuine greats but he is one of a handful of those who could put a claim on being our greatest ever.
I was fortunate enough to meet Jinky several times and have yet to meet Kenny Dalglish or Henrik but the Tier-1 Celtic great I’ve met most is Billy McNeill. Billy’s achievements as a player are legendary, his managerial achievements were none too shabby either, but the way he has represented himself, his family and our clu,b for over half a century, is incredible He must have shared thoughts and memories with well over 100,000 Celtic fans on a one-to-one basis.
Like many of the Lions, and unlike to many less decorated heroes, they never make you feel like you are imposing on them when you’re soaking up the rays of history which flow from them.
The renovations outside Celtic Park are nearing completion and the area will be opened by Billy at 13:00 this Saturday, before the Aberdeen game. While the façade of the stadium has changed greatly since Billy first stood out front as a fan, the school, car park and Kerrydale Street changed only by aging gradually, and the occasional resurfacing.
This renovation will change the way future Celtic fans view the ground in the decades ahead. As a club, we are privileged to have someone of the calibre of Billy McNeill there to celebrate our present and future.
Get along early to support him – and bring a camera.
We are holding a Four Lions CQN Night at the Greenock Celtic Supporters’ Club on Friday 6 June. Willie Wallace is back from Australia for the Lisbon final so we’ve nabbed him for a night, to join Bertie Auld, John Hughes and the one and only Tommy Gemmell. Tickets are genuinely scarce after a lot of local update, if you want to be there, this will be your first and last day to respond…..
The 70th Anniversary Supporters Association Dinner is THIS Friday at the Kerrydale Suite. Dinner, music (step away from the mic. Anthony) and entertainment among hundreds of friends. Tickets cost a mere £30. With the event being on Friday, and Fridays being synonimous with statements these days, I wonder if we’ll have another jelly and ice cream sweet. What a memorable CSA Rally that would be. See you there.
If you would like to attend either event, email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com
FYI, with the Big Cup final returning to Lisbon this month, CQN will be wallowing in unapologetic nostalgia for the next 31 days and beyond. We forget how lucky we are sometimes. Billy, Willie, John, Bertie and Big Tam, celebrate the way only Celtic fans can. Fill your boots.

Hamiltontim is praying for Oscar
Taken from BBC Gossip.
Everton are lining up a summer move for 22-year-old Celtic winger James Forrest. Manager Roberto Martinez is also keen to bring in 20-year-old Dundee United defender Andrew Robertson.
I believe £7m is quoted in the link to the Record story. Colleague at work mentioned it this morning.

I had a bampot of an older brother
which meant a lot of teachers (with my unusual surname) had my card
marked before I went into first class.
I hated that my brother and I were and still are complete opposites.
Even although Mr Carr had taught him he never held it against me
judged me on what I did.
Wish a few of the other ones had .

Hoopy-do,
Pretty sure they were brothers, but it was a wee while ago now (jaysus, and no mistake, eh?). Might have been cousins I suppose, but there was definitely a family connection.
===================
Just doing a bit of digging
they were cousins, i knew they werent brothers
John McL also taught in the Geography department in St Brides but left in about ’74
He still lives in EK

Dunfermline decide to make sure bangers finish unbeaten, a total disgrace!

A happy Birthday to all the month of Mary, bhoys and ghirls, esp my son Ryan who will be 21 on the 7th. 5 days son! :))

Thanks for that link to Napoli FC’s statement. You are correct! Celtic should take a leaf out of their book and issue a strong statement whenever offensive articles appear.
It would be a big help in fostering better relations between the club and fans.

I don;t see many problems with that. The Pars have to look after themselves. Why risk injury against the hammer throwers? Who knows the young guys may just make a name for themselves.
Sevco going unbeaten in that league is like Real Madrid playing in the Scottish Premiership. It’s nothing to get excited about.

More like Real Madrid v my Granddaughter’s under 9 ghirls team! :))

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Dunfermline to field a weakened side in a meaningless game when they have an important game 5 days later.
It puts more pressure on thems to win. Imagine the berrz if they don’t. Hahahaha.
Hoopy birthday to PFayr and a big thankyou to him for casting his expert legal eye over princess acgr’s application for an internship placing on the Yugoslavia war crime tribunal earlier in the week.
She’s taken on board your points bud. Many thanks.

His co-host, James May, came to his defence on Twitter, saying: “Jeremy Clarkson is not a racist. He is a monumental bellend and many other things, but not a racist. I wouldn’t work with one. #ThatIsAll.”
Loved this comment from James May.And so say all of us.

Not quoted in the article but Jefferies went on to say,
” Because of this, there is less likelihood of the need to award Elbows a soft penalty.”
If Everton are interested in James a Forest for £7m .. No further negotiation required IMO….

I take your points about Forest and as I’ve said I do think he’s a great wee player. However, I feel he’s had his chance we can’t wait in perpetuity for him to discove both form and fitness all at the one time.
I’d be delighted with £7m but I think we’d be lucky to get half that amount.

HOOOOOOPY BIRTHDAY

What school was that? Must have missed that. Some of those names seem eerily familiar.

I agree.Little things could go a long way in re-uniting the support. We are like punching bags for the scum media at the moment. What would be wrong about Celtic answering the accusations publicly?.When the Sun prints 5 year old pics to denigrate the support, get tore into them out in the open.Cannot understand their stance.

It appears to me I’m in the minority regarding Jamesie.
His best years of fitness and form are ahead of him. Like Stevie Gerrard he has had problems early in his career but he will get over them.
I would not sell for £7m.

Good reminiscing on Holy Cross. I do remember now Mr Tierney – very nice man and good teacher – who I had for French, rather than Spanish. Languages were my favourite thing at school, did Italian too (I believe we were the only school in Scotland to offer it as a choice then). Also, how could I have forgotten Mr McCormick, who used to pick me at the bus stop in Busby when I missed the bus to EK (frequently, almost daily in fact) to connect with the school bus. I was the only one in the village from St Joseph’ s who lived on the (then) Lanarkshire side of the River Cart.
Livibhoy
Would you sell for £10m? :-)

Ps just because you’re in the minority doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll not all be proved wrong in the long run. I’d love him to be a real success at Celtic.

James Forrest: Terrific player. His trouble with hip niggles will diminish as his body matures. Keep.
hoopy-do
That’s bell bottoms
Aiden McGeady is at Everton, slowly finding his way, whether or not he will become a permanent fixture in the first team or not is looking unlikely, an impact sub from the bench more likely. So with this in mind I’d be ‘staggered’ if they bought James Forrest.
