Final day to appeal Lord Glennie decision set to expire

1163

Charles Green, like Whyte and Duff & Phelps before him, is asking for admittance to the SPL on the basis that Rangers FC is a distinct entity from its legal identity.  While this theory has been strongly advocated by SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, by necessity, if you claim the football benefits of being ‘Rangers’, specifically player registrations, you also inherit Rangers penalties.

Although Rangers clearly won their challenge to Lord Carloway’s 12-month ban on player registration at the Court of Session last month when Lord Glennie referred the matter back to the SFA Appellate Panel, as the full ramification of the decision became clear to Green, who then had an irrevocable contract to buy Rangers or its assets, he floated the idea that he might appeal.

The SFA, correctly, decided not to instruct the Appellate Panel until the 21 day period when an appeal can be raised, which elapses today, has passed, just in case Green tells Lord Glennie he’s got it all wrong.

All this has been terribly confusing, not to mention expensive, for Scottish football, but with yesterday’s news that Rangers have a prima facie case to answer for subverting Scottish football for over a decade, the obstacles before Green are clearly insurmountable.  There is reason to believe we can quickly reach some clarity.

The SFA must, without delay, convene the Appellate Panel to consider Lord Glennie’s instructions and apply an appropriate penalty on the various legal and ethereal bodies which claim to be ‘Rangers’.  If the Appellate Panel suspend or expel what is left of the football club from the SFA, as must surely be expected, all questions about fan pressure, morals and votes become moot.

In this case, history will record the folly of Green’s appeal to civil law as the act which finally killed off any chance of ‘Rangers’ surviving, conveniently letting the SPL off the hook, while Green would be obliged to dispose of the stadium for a modest return to those capable of forming a genuinely new football club at some point in the future.

  1. Always think it’s a bit of a relief when we lose out on someone who doesn’t want to play for us. Matt Mills has decided to join Bolton over Celtic. Yes-Bolton! He has chosen the Championship over the Champions League, winning medals over a possible struggle for promotion, even jeopardised the chance to put himself in the shop window at a higher level against the possibility of mid-table mediocrity in the Championship. With that kind of paucity of ambition I am glad we didn’t manage to persuade Mills to come- would he after all possess the hunger, resilience, mental toughness and will to win that you need to play for a club like Celtic? Is he any better than Jos Hooiveld? There have been many good players through the years who have come to Paradise and never adapted the demands and pressures put on you by the club- would Mills have been the same?

I’m still not convinced by the Championship as a recruiting ground for a club the size of Celtic- is the quality so great down there?

I can understand us picking up young guys with fantastic potential, like Adam Matthews, but not players, such as Loovens or Wilson, who are ready or good enough to go straight into the team. Are such players, like Mills, any better than those already at Celtic? I think we should be looking elsewhere, particularly if we are going to be successful in Europe.

Dave ‘tears of a crocodile’ King didn’t think they were gaining an advantage but yet it took hmrc to investigate them and in the knowledge that Celtic decided not to use ebt’s very early on.

Aye ok Davie, will you be apologizing to the poverty stricken country you stiffed too?

  6. I wonder if the Willie Miller scenario is a case of the Dons cutting costs due to their vote being a no to new club and they think that is the way the vote will go por cierto.

  7. Interesting belated apology from Dave King.

Wonder if any Chairman could use it to vote Yes, wouldn’t have thought so.

It should of course have come from Messers D Murray, A Jonstone & M Bain. Along time ago.

Where does this leave the SFA President, well he said he would resign if there was any problem, guess he doesn’t see the biggest scandal in Brittish Football as a Problem.

Dave King says “…the way Rangers treated the authorities – instead of having a conversation with them around reparation – has been regrettable.”

Bit of an understatment, all specuation now but I remember sometime ago, saying if R@ngers were smart and talking to the SPL they would have taken the hit mainly in points deduction get relegated and take a Season to sort themselves out. We now know they were negotiating with Mr Doncaster at the time.

If they had taken the SFA tranfer embargo as well, they would have lost their highest salary players had an excuse for not spending but still have a squad to win the First Division and rebuild 2013/14.

Guess it wasn’t in their nature.

Antinomianism (a term coined by Martin Luther, from the Greek ἀντί, “against” + νόμος, “law” + -ism; compare antinomy) is defined as holding that, under the gospel dispensation of grace, moral law is of no use or obligation because faith alone is necessary to salvation.

Although the concept is related to the foundational Protestant belief of Sola Fide where justification is through faith alone in Christ, it is taken to an extreme in antinomianism. It is seen by some as the opposite of the notion that obedience to a code of religious law earns salvation: legalism or works righteousness

-lifted from Wiki/EWLM/EWTB. Not often ole Martin Luther gets quoted on here, but we’re a very broad [er] Church ;/)

Green has no money and no investors and cannot take the huns any further, zeus offered half of the club to king, smith and co for 8 million, thats why king was in glasgow, they said no thanks,a major problem is loyds, they are refusing to provide banking/overdraft facilities, hence kings “immediate” need for investment,it just gets better and better

  10. If we are going to have a 50% top rate of tax in this country, we have to recognise that it could well end up driving people like Jimmy Carr abroad……so there is an upside.

    I’ll happily drive the Carr.

  11. FRASER FORSTER has told Celtic boss Neil Lennon that he is now ready to sign a permanent deal with the champions.

The on-loan Newcastle player has held talks with Lennon, who is on holiday, in recent days and he has told his manager that he expects to conclude his side of the bargain this week in the £2million switch.

Talks have been ongoing for weeks between Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell and Forster’s agent, Mark Curtis.

Forster, above, had been looking for more money and had been keen to see what English Premier League interest there was – although very little has materialised on that front.

The 22-year-old is now set to agree terms with Celtic that will see him get a significant wage rise on what he was offered at Newcastle.

Celtic boss Lennon had a lengthy telephone conversation with Forster and told the keeper, who has had two loan spells at Parkhead, that he was his top target but he couldn’t afford to let the situation drag on much further.

I’ve been thinking about the David Irving situation and The Holocaust deniers.

I wonder if we could fill the new Lowmoss with Liquidation deniers?

Or would it be more appropriate to send them to Strangeways and let the locals at them?

I’d play Lewis Toshney, Marcus Fraser or even Jackson Irvine at RB ahead of buying more SPL fodder.

I’m with you on this one. Now that the filth are gone, this is our chance to be more pro-active in our promotion of youth in the SPL.

Surely players like McGowan are no better than our best young players- yes he may have an advantage in terms of experience- but this is an ideal opportunity to offer them that much needed experience.

  16. As part of their application to join the SPL do Sevco not need to provide evidence that they can complete a full season of fixtures, in the form of auditable financial records (such as they have), details of funding and forecasts? Or will assurances from Mr Green just be accepted at face value?
