Final day to appeal Lord Glennie decision set to expire

1163

Charles Green, like Whyte and Duff & Phelps before him, is asking for admittance to the SPL on the basis that Rangers FC is a distinct entity from its legal identity.  While this theory has been strongly advocated by SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, by necessity, if you claim the football benefits of being ‘Rangers’, specifically player registrations, you also inherit Rangers penalties.

Although Rangers clearly won their challenge to Lord Carloway’s 12-month ban on player registration at the Court of Session last month when Lord Glennie referred the matter back to the SFA Appellate Panel, as the full ramification of the decision became clear to Green, who then had an irrevocable contract to buy Rangers or its assets, he floated the idea that he might appeal.

The SFA, correctly, decided not to instruct the Appellate Panel until the 21 day period when an appeal can be raised, which elapses today, has passed, just in case Green tells Lord Glennie he’s got it all wrong.

All this has been terribly confusing, not to mention expensive, for Scottish football, but with yesterday’s news that Rangers have a prima facie case to answer for subverting Scottish football for over a decade, the obstacles before Green are clearly insurmountable.  There is reason to believe we can quickly reach some clarity.

The SFA must, without delay, convene the Appellate Panel to consider Lord Glennie’s instructions and apply an appropriate penalty on the various legal and ethereal bodies which claim to be ‘Rangers’.  If the Appellate Panel suspend or expel what is left of the football club from the SFA, as must surely be expected, all questions about fan pressure, morals and votes become moot.

In this case, history will record the folly of Green’s appeal to civil law as the act which finally killed off any chance of ‘Rangers’ surviving, conveniently letting the SPL off the hook, while Green would be obliged to dispose of the stadium for a modest return to those capable of forming a genuinely new football club at some point in the future.

  2. The brains trust on FollowFollow are actually trying to argue the use of EBTs did not provide a competitive advantage to Rangers…..

    Seriously.

Their argument is because they didn’t win the league every year. They honestly think that because their cheating didn’t win them the title it means it is not cheating rather than them not being able to cheat properly.

  8. NEWCASTLE LOAN FRASER FORSTER READY TO PEN DEAL WITH CELTIC

Fraser Forster has said he is ready for a move to Celtic

    Wednesday June 20,2012

    By Scott Burns

FRASER FORSTER has told Celtic boss Neil Lennon that he is now ready to sign a permanent deal with the champions.

The on-loan Newcastle player has held talks with Lennon, who is on holiday, in recent days and he has told his manager that he expects to conclude his side of the bargain this week in the £2million switch.

Talks have been ongoing for weeks between Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell and Forster’s agent, Mark Curtis.

Forster had been looking for more money and had been keen to see what English Premier League interest there was – although very little has materialised on that front.

The 22-year-old is now set to agree terms with Celtic that will see him get a significant wage rise on what he was offered at Newcastle.

Celtic boss Lennon had a lengthy telephone conversation with Forster and told the keeper, who has had two loan spells at Parkhead, that he was his top target but he couldn’t afford to let the situation drag on much further.

Lennon wants his goalkeeping situation resolved before the Hoops begin their Champions League qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Celtic have been told they are on the verge of missing out on Leicester City defender Matt Mills and out-of-contract West Bromwich Albion midfielder Keith Andrews to Bolton.

The English Championship new boys have made offers to both Celtic targets while the Hoops have also discussed terms with the agent for both players.

Celtic are keen to do a swap deal with Kelvin Wilson going to Leicester in exchange for Mills.

Mills is set to make a decision when he returns from holiday while midfielder Andrews will weigh up his options after he returns from Euro 2012 with the Republic of Ireland this week.

The Hoops have still to do any business this summer. Another Celtic target – Bjorn Sigurdarson – has opted to join Wolves on a four-year deal.

The 21-year-old Lillestrom hitman was on the Hoops’ radar after scoring seven goals in 11 games at the start of the Norwegian league season.

However, the Iceland international has decided to jump at the chance of a move to the Championship and will link up at Molineux for pre-season training.

  9. Do ‘ra peepul’ not get it? It was THEIR ‘peepul’ that screwed ‘ra peepul’.

Instead of threatening civil disorder, like the keyboard killers and internet hardmen that they think they are, they should be asking some serious questions of their own ‘peepul’. For instance :

How is it that Sir Walter Cardigan, living in a salubrious gated community like a robber baron of old, swilling vintage champagne in up-market Glasgow hostelries, lounging like a lizard in St. Tropez, eternally grinning like a fat cat on infinite EBTs,be so complacent while his ‘peepul’ lie, broken and shivering in their damp and chilly hovels, praying that their devil dug,Wee Moisty, will get up the gumption to start another hate campaign;doesn’t matter who, just so long as he starts savaging.

But no….their bilious bigotry is too ingrained. Their violence is their manna. Hatred of everyone not of their ilk is their way.

They are doomed by a disaster of their own making. ‘Ra peepul’ are an anachronism. And like any headless chicken….it takes a little time for the fact to sink in that it’s a goner. Meanwhile….

  10. ABZMike @ 11:20,

The SPL have all ready stated they don’t have the documentation or verification needed – why they accepted the application I don’t know – but the have said they will not consider the application until it’s submitted.

  24. Snake – to be fair there are 2, only 2, trying to explain to the rest of the brain dead cretins this is mince. The argument now is how can the club have gained? They had £10k to pay out to the player for example, how does it matter how the tax breakdown goes after that. Which misses so many points it is staggering.

The only way the club did not benefit is if they gave the money they “saved” to charity.

I’ve also seen them argue that it wasn’t cheating because they would have spent the money anyway, and ended up in the same position. No realisation that if they’d spent the same money but paid their taxes the quality of player would have been half as good, and they wouldn’t have won as much.
