Flats, flats, glorious flats

News that Hearts are set to go into administration today will give Scottish football has yet another morality lesson to consider, but this time, there will be no pleas for rule changes, no lobbying by the massed ranks of the media for other clubs to ‘do the right thing for Scottish football’, as opposed to the actual right thing.  Hearts will face their fate with a straight bat.

This is an unusual football insolvency.  Normally clubs go into administration when they cannot cut costs quickly enough to satisfy a creditor but on this occasion it was the way the club’s debt was structured which caused the problem.

While Celtic have long term loans with fixed repayment terms stretching years into the future, Hearts owed money to their own shareholders, most of which was repayable on demand (as almost all non-term loan bank borrowing is).  If Hearts shareholder-creditors had issued loans instead of an overdraft, as long as the club continued to make repayments administration would not be on the table.

Ukio Bankas and UBIG, once both controlled by Vladimir Romanov now both insolvent, extended generous credit to the club without the formalities of an agreed repayment schedule.  This informality led to their ultimate downfall.

I’ve read interesting views elsewhere that the absence of Rangers International from the SPL has claimed a further victim but there is no evidence to suggest that RI FC playing in the SPL would have sufficiently supported the Lithuanian property and investment market to prevent the collapse of the country’s banking system.

As far as we are concerned it is business as usual but there could be a crunch coming.  All we can do is look after Celtic (principally by buying season tickets, never underestimate how important this is) and let nature take its course.  If the crunch comes to Kilmarnock (I know, how would this be possible with a sharp kid like Michael Johnston in charge?), St Mirren, Motherwell and others, the game here needs to come up with something more radical than a unitary league body.  Any ideas?  I’ve one.

  1. Morning Celtic Fholks

I’ll tell you what it is….I’m looking for one of those – waggy-tail – types to help me out here…then I’ll be Off oot :)

Right – I was in a discussion with a Zombie last night and , amongst other things…we got round to talking about what’s going on at Hertz.

And, to cut to the chase…I reminded him about the Hertz boreds attempts to shaft – Fergus !!!

Now, what I’m looking for is evidence from the aftermath of the SCF 1998 – held at CP where the Hertz ensured that Walter won hee haw in his last season of his 1st term at the Orcdome :)

After the game, a couple of days after it in fact…Hertz told the Huns that the money they still owed for whatever player they still owed out on – “…that there was no hurry to pay !”

Now, Fergus being Fergus – was aware that Hertz still hadn’t paid for their tickets in their last League visit of the season to CP…so – Fergus told – whoever was in charge of Hertz(was CO there at that time?)….that Hertz wouldn’t be in a rush for their ‘hospitality-money’ from the SCF ?

Hertz were furious – Ghood !!!

What I’m trying to fathom out is – Is what I have posted above true ?

Thanks in advance to any – CQN Bloodhounds :)

I’ll try to check any response later – a lot of things to do so – Off oot.

    God Bless n Hail Hail – laters….

Great to see Tom Rogic and Oztralia qualify for the world cup, a big year ahead for him.

Question is can the manager accommodate him in the team, or more likely does the manager have the guts to play a creative central midfielder? Hope so.

    Morning all.

Blantyre Tim– I believe myself, Paul, Winning Captains, and Jinky bhoy are going– we have another two seats as well I think.

Mind you my voice will have to recover after Bruce at Hampden last night.

By the way– if anyone knows anyone involved in the Hampden concert setup, tell them to go and employ a proper sound engineer.

I believe the stage is set up in the wrong place and the wrong way resulting in a distinct delay in the sound coming from the different sets of speakers.

Other venues are far better but I understand Hampden tenders so low to get the gigs that other stadia can’t compete.

However, a proper sound setup is a must!

    Dumplings!

  10. Estadio Nacional,

If the bhoy Rogic can maintain the level you say he is playing at, I am sure our manager will keep playing him. A central midfielder who can pass the ball is what we need more than anything, especially against the massed defences of the SPL. I have hopes that the bhoy, Paul George, may have the ability too.

  11. !!Bada Bing!! on

Agree, we have been crying out for creativity from the middle for a while, would be good to see a forward pass from there. Ive not seen anything of Paul George, hope he has similar potential.

Kirkcaldy in Fife had two of Scotland’s very best.

Jackie O’s on the esplanade ,

    and Bentleys.

Bentleys was a real poseurs place.

Bus loads used come from all over Scotland , and some from England.

I used to spend small fortunes on clothes.

I was once photographed for The Face magazine , who were doing an article on Bentleys and fashion of the day.

Anybody else on here ever go to Bentley’s from 1980 to around 1985?

  17. Meant to say already that the prospect of Joe McBride and Willie Wallace forming a partnership, which, according to The Heart of a Lion, was Mr Stein’s plan, has had me fantasising since I read it. The goals would have rained down. Both signed for a combined total of about £50,000. Mr Stein knew a bargain when he saw it.

    Canamalar

I was on the pitch towards the back and there was a distinct echo.

No this is crazy– first of all the stage should be erected at a goal end rather than facing across the pitch.

Secondly they have second bank of speakers half way across and there is a clear delay between those speakers and the ones at the front– how basic is that?

Don’t like moaning because the concert was great but having been to all sorts of gigs across Europe stuff like that is pretty fundamental and I have no idea why someone did not pick it up.

By the way if anyone knows of any good gigs or Festivals in and around Bordeaux in the first two weeks of July then give me a shout.

    Apropos of good supporters/bad supporters…

According to Home Office documents up to 9th November 2012 there have been 2,750 Football Banning Orders issued.

A selection of total banning orders by clubs supported:

Cardiff City has the most with 135, followed by Chelsea with 112. Manchester United has 98, Arsenal has 73, Bradford City has 57, Hull City has 55, Swindon Town has 34 and Torquay United has 16.

The Rangers has 16 (but they haven’t been about as long as some of the other clubs) and Celtic has 8.

  24. Since Moonbeams was up and running with his succulent lamb culture i have never seen the SMSM so quiet on stories emanating from Govan, boardroom battles at an end(ha ha) no transfer stories, FPLG not stirring the hordes with battle cries, next to zilch being written! no co-incidence Charlotte has been in full flow IMO

Scottish football has too many clubs living a hand to mouth existence, IMO Scottish football has far too many clubs that’s another debate, the SFL1st Division clubs economic realities brought an end to Longmuir and Ballantynes reign of terror, economic fan power saved the SPL from the 5 way agreement, the last three years following the economic crises in 2008 has brought the one real truth that can’t be fought by spin and PR bullshit, unsustainable debt will kill your club, thats the truth BBC et al, liquidated means it is the end

We are seeing new financial realities emerging within Scottish football, change will be a constant, Peat, Smith, Dallas, Longmuir, Ballantyne are members of a ruinous club whose members of which have either departed or are in the departure lounge of Scottish football, many years i have spent running teams within Scottish football, to many hours spent at committee meetings to be honest, however i have seen how one club outwith the clique is treated no matter how strong that club is, i get the politics that Celtic have to play at the SFA, i see Celtic becoming stronger as our financial muscle becomes the anchor for many clubs to survive, i wish Celtic could have got rid of Ogilvie however i understand the politics of securing the votes to deselect or getting an opposing candidate who would secure enough votes to unseat Ogilvie, something tells me a Celtic backed candidate would have no chance, SMSM would make his life hell

Looking forward to the new season its the C/L group stages for me, nothing else matters, the SPL is won before a ball is kicked, not Celtic’s problem we neither caused or wished for that reality, so its just the joy of being Celtic as the clubs marketing campaign is selling us, the spin is on the money, Celtic park for me and only Celtic park

As for Ogilvie i will not be attending Hampdump till he is gone

Jackie O’s on occasion, never Bentleys. Was a fair hike from where I lived but then again, I used to go to Wigan and that wasn’t exactly a short trip on the number 22 bus either.

I was a lager drinker back in those days, and went out Thursday night, Friday night, Sat afternoon and evening, Sunday afternoon and evening, then Monday night.

I had to go to the doc’s with stomach issues. He asked me “what do you drink”. I told him Lager and he said, “how many pints in a week?”.

    I started to calculate in my head….8 +8 +8 + 10 …covering every evening and afternoon I was out.

I reckoned about 55-60 pints (not to mention a few spirits) but thought “there’s no way I’m telling him the truth”, so I said……………. “about 15 pints a week doctor”

He looked at me and said ” that’s far too many, you’ll need to cut right back on the amount you drink.

Anyway I didn’t, and a few months later I had to get operated on an ulcerated stomach, of which I still bear the 8″ scar today.

Perhaps the doc knew what he was talking about after all!

(I now reckon there will be a flood of posts along the lines of – 8″?, a mere flesh wound. Why, I have a scar that’s………………)

    Arsenal’s average attendance for 2011 – 2012 circa 60,000

    Chelsea’s average attendance for 2011 – 2012 circa 41,500

    Manchester United’s average attendance for 2011 – 2012 circa 75,000

    Celtic’s average attendance for 2011 – 2012 circa 51,000

Taken into consideration with the Football Banning Order numbers, it is obvious to even the dimmest that Celtic Park stands out as a haven for football louts and social malcontents. It becomes only too apparent why Celtic PLC felt the need to be instrumental in encouraging the Scottish Government to set up the ever so polite special football unit endearingly referred to as FOCUS.
