Forged on the road

1529

Many of our early season concerns manifest themselves in the performances against Dundee.  A 1-1 draw at Dens on the last day of the summer transfer window, followed by a 2-1 win at Celtic Park in November, told the story of a club just about getting by on the domestic front.

The Celtic Park win saw us go seven points ahead of Aberdeen on the same games played, but defeat to a Stuart Armstrong goal for Dundee United, and a home draw against bottom of the table Ross County, briefly gave us what looked like a genuine championship challenge.

Something happened at Rugby Park in the first week of the year.  Kris Commons was sublime but the improvement in Celtic’s performance was due to more than just him.  We’ve won six games on the bounce, without losing a goal, with convincing performances, in all but away to Ross County, who belie their lowly position to squeeze every ounce of effort out of Celtic.

Before last week’s game at Hampden it was possible to find plenty of “Celtic are rubbish as well” comments.  We were rubbish, earlier in the season, but you’ve watched the team grow in recent months.  So much so that it’s becoming difficult to give an honest opinion on the goalkeeper, he is so rarely troubled.

Forged on the road

On Wednesday we have the Glasgow derby against Partick Thistle, before a trip to Perth next weekend, often a difficult venue for Celtic.  That will bring to end a nine game run since New Year, with only one game at Celtic Park.  The growth in the team has been forged on the road, often on smaller grounds with variable surfaces.

The return to Celtic Park, on Thursday 19, against the Italians with their famous blue and black stripes, will present Ronny Deila and his players with a bigger challenge.  It’s not a must-win game, but it’s an absolutely necessary test to a team who are looking more and more imperious in Scotland with each passing week.

  1. Call me a happy clapper if you want but I will always stand up against anything derogatory said about about my club, board, team or supporters. We have many people on CQN who have expressed their views about our CEO and “bored” appointing Ronny Deila as our manager.” PL is only looking at his bonus”.

Now we are in the run in for trophies and still involved in four tournaments and these posters (or imposters) are very quiet. Not saying we will win everything but at the moment we are playing very good “football”.

Can we now say the BORED and Ronny D are doing the right thing after the transfer window, bringing players in and, as the managers says, ” Celtic are spending money they have” Strength ed the team and still making a profit not bad in my eyes.

In fairness, we were humped by Legia and Manowar. Thanks to incompetence.

Ronny is progressing well but we must defeat Inter at home.

I posted earlier today – towards the end of the previous article – updating the blog on the plans for the new look CQN as we want to make sure everyone is aware of the plans and can comment etc.

If you have a look at http://www.cqnmagazine.com – the top two posts on there will become the home of Paul’s two most recent blogs with the comments following. The other features will be below that.

That site will transfer over to become CQN when we have tested it and taken feedback from the blog. HT said he wants to maintain the single blog with comments and this is still there -just on a much improved site.

For those who prefer CQN to stay the same we have tried to accommodate that wish. We will also have additional user functions that CQNers listed previously so it will be an improvement for those posting.

  10. From STV report:

The statement, released on Sunday evening, said: “It is regrettable that the Board of Rangers Football Club were not in attendance at today’s important Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers.

“Given the events over the past few days and after advice from the Club, the decision was made not to attend the game.

“The Board has a duty of care to the fans, staff and stewards to ensure safety at the ground at all times and they believe this was the correct decision.”

Is ANYONE associated with the game in Scotland EVER going to stand up and state categorically that thuggish behaviour is not acceptable?

Was really scunnered earlier in season with the negative opinions expressed about the football standards and RDs management ability. Was thinking give the bhoys a chance to sort of out.

Now I think the pendulum has swung too far the other way.

Its true we are playing tidy sometimes elegant and hard working football but we’re not ‘great’ or ‘excellent’ and RD s some way from genius (probably).

Now I hope we continue to build and improve but we’ve a way to go yet methinks. I’ll be a very a very happy bhoy if we do!

    Keep calm and carry on…

Cannot argue about early results in Europe. Who’s incompetence? the manager or the players who could not play as the manager wanted?

Maybe too early in the season for players and manager after NFL left in the summer and left Celtic to find a competent manager who fitted into our philosophy of living within our means

Just tried the new format and could not get rid of a Mazda car advert. They are not my first choice of cars but certainly not my favourite. I will be quite happy if CQN remains in the current format. IMHO of course. Thanks David. KTF.

Proud to be a happy “Celtic FC” clapper

Not at all, I am quite happy just being a Celtic fan/supporter, it’s actually the way I have been brought up, no hatred just want Celtic to do well, by the way when my father introduced to me to Celtic there wS no happy clapping and no moaning bams… You just supported the hoops, in fact sometimes (Raith Rovers 1994) was one of the best nights I ever experienced, Celtic isn’t about winning….. Celtic us about Celtic (that’s not we are the people excrement)

I posted last year about how I’d been out of work for a while. After a while I took a job that usually I’d never look at as it was basically as a labourer on a building site. It did however pay the bills and I was grateful for the work.

I continued applying for jobs and ventually got a Foremans job with a company from manchester who do a lot of work for Scottish Power. Money was good and the guy who runs things is a great person.

Why am I telling you on CQN this? Well a few weeks ago I tweeted about the advert in the Herald, I encouraged fans to spread the word amongst fans of other clubs.

For some reason the huns on twitter thought that I had funded and paid for the advert and went mental, my notifications on twitter went mental.

A friend who suports Rangers phoned me up and said there a thread on a hun site where they were encouraging people to share any info they had on me. My home phone number, who I worked for etc was disclosed.

We recieved a few phone calls to the house late on and tbh, while I was sure it was just idiots, Isobel was not so sure and we eventually decided to call the Police.

I went to work as normal on the monday. By 10 o’clock it was evident that this wasn’t a normal day. I was getting litterally hundreds of notifications from twitter, non were complimentary. “wer you abused as a child” “peado” “IRA loving Peado” being the majority of tweets.

My bosses wife worked in the office 1 day a week, monday, she adswered the phone etc. She had to go home she was so upset about the abuse she took that morning. Over 300 emails and phone calls demanding I be sacked as I was a sectarian bigot.

On the wednesday one of my fellow workers stoped at Abington sevices for fuel in a works van, the guy was from Manchester, he was approached by 2 guys demanding to know his name “are you that fenian Rice”. Thankfully there is CCTV at Abington and apart from being a bit shook up he was ok.

After that incident my boss asked if I would take some time out. There have been 2 other incidents since and tbh I’m glad I’m at home just now as I know how vunerable Isobel feels.

I’m meeting up with the boss this tuesday and hopefully I can get back to work soon.

What pisses me off is how these morons can continually get away with this, don’t we pay our taxes so the Police can protect us from these lowlife scumbags?
