Forged on the road

1529

Many of our early season concerns manifest themselves in the performances against Dundee.  A 1-1 draw at Dens on the last day of the summer transfer window, followed by a 2-1 win at Celtic Park in November, told the story of a club just about getting by on the domestic front.

The Celtic Park win saw us go seven points ahead of Aberdeen on the same games played, but defeat to a Stuart Armstrong goal for Dundee United, and a home draw against bottom of the table Ross County, briefly gave us what looked like a genuine championship challenge.

Something happened at Rugby Park in the first week of the year.  Kris Commons was sublime but the improvement in Celtic’s performance was due to more than just him.  We’ve won six games on the bounce, without losing a goal, with convincing performances, in all but away to Ross County, who belie their lowly position to squeeze every ounce of effort out of Celtic.

Before last week’s game at Hampden it was possible to find plenty of “Celtic are rubbish as well” comments.  We were rubbish, earlier in the season, but you’ve watched the team grow in recent months.  So much so that it’s becoming difficult to give an honest opinion on the goalkeeper, he is so rarely troubled.

Forged on the road

On Wednesday we have the Glasgow derby against Partick Thistle, before a trip to Perth next weekend, often a difficult venue for Celtic.  That will bring to end a nine game run since New Year, with only one game at Celtic Park.  The growth in the team has been forged on the road, often on smaller grounds with variable surfaces.

The return to Celtic Park, on Thursday 19, against the Italians with their famous blue and black stripes, will present Ronny Deila and his players with a bigger challenge.  It’s not a must-win game, but it’s an absolutely necessary test to a team who are looking more and more imperious in Scotland with each passing week.

Just read your update there – an awful state of affairs matey and I sincerely hope you resolve this issue completely. There are many, many genuine Celtic supporters who sympathise with your plight. As for the huns, they define themselves by their actions.

A word of caution to all Celtic supporters here – be circumspect with your personal details, there are committed, snyde and sleekit hun trolls at work.

Good ole Partick Thistle, postponing our league clash until we’d rested and returned to form, although we have enforced changes to the line up with Mikael Lustig likely to return to his treatment table and Kris Commons also out injured.

Adam Matthews will replace Lustig but the other empty berth could be snapped up by any number of players, including Stuart Armstrong, Gary McKay Steven, or Liam Henderson. Too soon for the enigma Mubarak Waksaso who starred in the African Nations cup now completed, but difficult to see him featuring in a Celtic shirt, on previous form.

I’d imagine at least one of two will debut even if it’s from the bench, and no doubt Leigh Griffiths will continue as the loan striker, with Guidetti as back up.

The rest of the team unchanged if James Forrest can start two full games in succession.

I posted last year about how I’d been out of work for a while. After a while I took a job that usually I’d never look at as it was basically as a labourer on a building site. It did however pay the bills and I was grateful for the work.

I continued applying for jobs and ventually got a Foremans job with a company from manchester who do a lot of work for Scottish Power. Money was good and the guy who runs things is a great person.

Why am I telling you on CQN this? Well a few weeks ago I tweeted about the advert in the Herald, I encouraged fans to spread the word amongst fans of other clubs.

For some reason the huns on twitter thought that I had funded and paid for the advert and went mental, my notifications on twitter went mental.

A friend who suports Rangers phoned me up and said there a thread on a hun site where they were encouraging people to share any info they had on me. My home phone number, who I worked for etc was disclosed.

We recieved a few phone calls to the house late on and tbh, while I was sure it was just idiots, Isobel was not so sure and we eventually decided to call the Police.

I went to work as normal on the monday. By 10 o’clock it was evident that this wasn’t a normal day. I was getting litterally hundreds of notifications from twitter, non were complimentary. “wer you abused as a child” “peado” “IRA loving Peado” being the majority of tweets.

My bosses wife worked in the office 1 day a week, monday, she adswered the phone etc. She had to go home she was so upset about the abuse she took that morning. Over 300 emails and phone calls demanding I be sacked as I was a sectarian bigot.

On the wednesday one of my fellow workers stoped at Abington sevices for fuel in a works van, the guy was from Manchester, he was approached by 2 guys demanding to know his name “are you that fenian Rice”. Thankfully there is CCTV at Abington and apart from being a bit shook up he was ok.

After that incident my boss asked if I would take some time out. There have been 2 other incidents since and tbh I’m glad I’m at home just now as I know how vunerable Isobel feels.

I’m meeting up with the boss this tuesday and hopefully I can get back to work soon.

What pisses me off is how these morons can continually get away with this, don’t we pay our taxes so the Police can protect us from these lowlife scumbags?

    ……………………………………………………..

Sorry to hear of this Eddie and can empathise as I had similar from Hearts fans for simply having a letter about anti-Irish racism published in the Herald!

The difference between us and them is marked in that their nutters usually belong to fraternal groups such as flute bands/Apprentice Boys etc. where this organised intimidation is condoned and usually ignored by the press out of fear of reprisal.

The “fenian” challenge to your colleague at the petrol station gives away the true nature of the hatred in that it is anti-Irish racism pure and simple.

That’s it as I see it anyway.

    Stay strong Eddie.

Sorry to hear of your trouble buddy. Hope between them the Police, your work and any other official body you ask for assistance will sort these bastards out.

If it were just yourself that was on the end of this it’d be frightening enough but I’m sure you’d cope and deal with it but when your family is drawn into it it is unnaceptable and multiply your worry 10 fold. Sadly this is the default position for many of the PEOPLE in this country as they admitted (albeit alluding to violence) in their RST statement in reply to the ad.

For once though I do actually find myself agreeing with Kev J on some levels. The personal attacks were one of the reasons I believed the ad not to be the best of ideas. Many involved will have dealt with this shit from Huns on previous occasions and are more than happy to stand up and face down these cowards. But many who got involved I believe would never have expected any personal comeback on any level just because the helped fund and support the article with the exception of possibly via social media. I understand that others who got involved are and would be happy to deal with these situations personally in the same vine as those who attack them but not everyone of of the same mould. I feel the ad opened many of our more vulnerable members in this community up to attack than was necessary. People who would not are would never consider their support of the ad would bring trouble to their families doors.

‘We are all Eddieinkirkmichael’ is a nice sentiment but sadly when these people come chapping on your door that sentiment ain’t going to help much.

Our club has failed you and everyone of us on this issue with their cowardly inaction.

If there is anything at all I can do to help please do not hesitate to contact me. You might just want a chat or at some point you may need some other form of personal assistance to rid yourself of these monkeys if the system lets you down. Just shout.

They were quick enough to rub it into Celtic when we lost to Raith Rovers at Ibrox. I’m sure they’ll have some jolly jape up their sleeves to mark yesterday’s victory by Raith Rovers.

  18. Dreadful story of harassment and threats posted above. Stay strong friend in Celtic.

I had similar, but to a lesser extent threats aimed at myself a few years ago from Linfield fans.( Sevco’s north of Ireland cousins).

I need some advice on how to obtain tickets for the forthcoming League Cup final. I was once a regular at Parkhead but in recent decades family commitments have had to come first.

I usually travelled with supporters clubs were ticket and travel were inclusive.

It is my bhoys birthday soon and I wanted to treat him so would like us to travel independently and have a great celtic day out. .Perhaps stay overnight in Glasgow. He is just 14 .

Do I apply directly to the club? (I know the tickets are not on sale yet).

From what I have heard season ticket holders and supporters clubs have priority. As I am neither I need some advice.

I take as much joy watching them get gubbed as I do from Celtic winning.Every defeat is like a dagger to their black hearts.I love it.I will be tuning in on Friday night watching Hibs, conducted by the excellent Scott Allen, hopefully tear them a new one.

Big Stubbsy is putting together a very decent team .

In the summer,I would like to see Allen, and Stewart from Dundee signed, when we get rid of the dross.Allen looks a perfect stand in for KC.The boy Stewart has a big future ahead.

Anti-Irish racism rather than anti-Catholic bigotry?

    Hmmm…

You may have a point there. I recall a few years back, someone suggested the scenario of two Catholics-one Irish, one Italian in background-opening chippies in the same town, and bedecking their premises in the (similar)-flags of their ancestors.

Which one would get their windows panned in?

Fortunately we know that neither anti-Catholic bigotry nor anti-Irish racism exists any more in Scotland. Which is a relief…
