Forster, Ashley and partnering with Sevco

951

Congratulations to Fraser Forster on his international call-up, I am absolutely delighted for him.  It occurred to me that he left Sports Direct and Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley’s clutches on the cheap early this summer, while Ashley had other matters in Glasgow under consideration – partnering with Sevco.

It was with customary bombast that Sir David Murray announced the deal Rangers struck with JJB Sports in 2006 to offload the club’s retail and merchandise operations to the sports retailer.  At a stroke the club banked £18m although subsequent dilapidation and redundancy costs ate into this figure.  Celtic had previously rejected a similar deal, believing that securitising future revenue streams in this manner would only swap short-term for long-term problems.

That deal perished when Rangers liquidation was announced but the Newco acquired only one retail store (outside Ibrox) and no infrastructure in place.  Instead, six weeks ago, Newco handed over retail operations to Sports Direct, who now operate its retail company, Rangers Retail Limited, and its online operation at rangersdirect.co.uk.

This deal was covered in local and retail press but lacked the bombast Murray would have brought to the occasion, perhaps because Ashley was aware that Celtic fans no longer felt comfortable spending their cash with JJB after the 2006 link-up.  Better to keep this one low-profile so as not to cannibalise sales to Celtic fans.

Whether Ashley is part-owner of Newco or just their merchandising partner is moot, Sports Direct’s interests in the Scottish market are significantly entwined with The Rangers F.C.

It is unlikely the retailer had to pay as much as £18m up front to secure his new rights but their support will be absolutely critical in quickly building their partner club into a successful force.  If they can do this while continuing to milk Celtic supporters they have knocked it off.

Chances of me buying the 125th Anniversary Kit from Sevco’s partner company are approaching zero.  My Celtic budget is for the benefit of one club only, it will not help build The Rangers.

When I say young I don’t mean signings that have to be less than 18 years old. Crowd is also a bit more than your average division three game : )

It ‘s like the old adage, when someone does something really bad, their ‘friends’ blame other people etc ….. Then, when they discover it is really much worse, and they cannot ‘divert the focus’ elsewhere, they look for sympathy for ‘the poor wee sole’ ………..

…..and it really is much worse, which we are about to find out……..

I’m convinced the sale of the assets for £1 will be deemed illegal, (since purchase etc tax wasn’t paid against the true value) …….the Liquidator will seize back all assets for the creditors …greengo will disappear with a few million in his pocket, and that will be that……watch this space

  12. I am on record to several friends as stating that as a human being I think that Neil Lennon is a fantastic bloke.

I have however had reservations about his managerial abilities.

In particular his choices of his playing personnel when recruiting new players.

I still have my doubts as to who has identified players ,is it him or his scouts?

Therefore any criticism or praise is difficult for me to fairly apportion .

I do believe that is earning a masters degree understanding of the formations a team can play, and how to make substitutions, and how substitutions can change the game.

My doubts in his managerial skills were increased when we lost to Hearts in the SC semi last season.

Hearts brought on Craig Beattie and the whole game changed.

Lenny did not know how to change the team to nullify the threat that Beattie created.

When he lost the plot and stormed the pitch at the end,I though he had lost the plot.

Irrespective of the atrocious decisions that went against us.

He should have shown ,much more self control.

Jump forward to Tuesday in Moscow.

    His substitutions ,won the match.

Taking of Wanyama and Mulgrew dissolved any threat of us being reduced to 10 men.

    Both players were playing well.

James Forrest was a revelation ,and Ledley posed his own threat.

Neil Francis Lennon has the potential to become a Celtic great.

He is already a great mhan.

I feel this post on Phil’s blog is spot on……….

“DD should have continued Celtic’s policy of saying nothing publicly about the rangers franchise. Once, however, he was asked the question, he had no option but to answer as he did.

With Barca on the horizon and all going well for our club, the last thing we need is to get drawn into the Charlie Green panto. How dearly Charlie would have loved a war of words with Celtic, and just before a share issue of his club – sorry, I mean his holding company!”

  18. minx great news about the wee mhan and as so rightly pointed out this is just the begining.

Music to my ears….and confirmation of what I said earlier……the 4 horses are about to thunder over the hill ….!!!!

“Sevco were allowed to play in SFL3 without the appropriate accounts, because they were issued with a dispensation of some kind over the licence (I forget the correct terminology, if you look at press reports on the Friday and Saturday before their first SFL3 game you will find it). Being allowed back into Senior football is at the bottom of all the confusion. They should not have been allowed back in because (no matter which way you look at it) they did not have three years clean accounts, even if you swallow the oldco/newco lie, Craig Whyte buggered that up for them. They have been treated more than fairly by Scottish Football, I am of the opinion that they should be grateful they have been treated in such a manner and not sniping at other clubs and fans who want fairness and justice to be important in our National game.

As for titles that were bought through tax fraud, they do not belong to them and I am positive they would be clamouring for justice if the boot was on the other shoe.

The childish arguments are pointless. Even Chuckles Green stated that if they did not win agreement on the CVA the history of the club was gone and he was not the only one of that ilk that echoed these sentiments. Green did not get the CVA accepted ergo Rangers and their history are about to be wound up through the forthcoming LIQUIDATION event.”

“Cooper Fifty-Bore, there you are, complaining about Sevco being discussed on this forum … and I wonder … why do you visit this forum?

Is it because you want to really find out, from Phil, what’s going on at your new club? Or why your old club died?

You can call yourselves anything you like: Rangers, The Rangers, The The Rangers, Sevco, Newco, Bronco, Tesco, Fiasco – it doesn’t matter, because deep down, you and others like you know that your mighty Rangers DIED, of self-inflicted wounds, and of shame and embarrassment, chased out of town by Hector, and owing Her Majesty £94m – what loyal subjects you are!

Now, away and get prepared for your big game this weekend against the team who are currently bottom of Div 3 – could be a big turning point in your season if you manage an away win.”

I’d be inclined to head through the tunnel, onto M8, and take the new M74/Carlisle spur at Ibrox.

15 minutes, then exit Motherwell at J6, and take the signs for Wishaw. Ravenscraig is well posted as you get past the top end of Motherwell, about 10 minutes from the motorway.

The alternative is stick on M8 to Chapelhall and wind down towards Wishaw, but it’ll take a little longer I reckon.

Irrespective of the atrocious decisions that went against us

    ……………………

that gollum did not apply the rules of the game

i.e. he thought it was wanyama that had hit the ball when in fact it was ledley

also ball to hand if the rules were ahearded too

but gollum had the same decision to make 5 minutes later and waved on play

mib not fit for purpose and any demotion would not happen as he is a grade 1 sfa ref

then we have the ECL ref take over 2 minutes too decide on sending the spartak captain off for a proffesional foul

the ref knew if he had to apply the rules

mib knew if he failed to sent off player he would be heavily marked down and would probably not get another ECL for a long time

gollum and co do their masters work knowing that demotion will never happen as the structure is set up to give them pass mark no matter how bad they perform

had the ECL ref acted like gollum the game would probably been a 2-1 win fof spartak

but the rules were applied without fear of favor

as for neil he made the correct decision quickly regards vic and mulgrew

that gave spartak no timebto regroup and got us quickley on top

neil lennon was a CELTIC GREAT long before he became the manager imho
