Gang of 10 SPL clubs set to deliver hammer blow to Rangers

747

It has been another busy news day but for now we’ll concentrate on the two most important matters.

10 SPL clubs, excluding Celtic and Rangers, have arranged to meet next week.  This is the most significant news since Craig Whyte bought Rangers in May last year.  One SPL chairman told the BBC:

“With the Old Firm having talked in the past about leaving Scottish football, we have had to think about a future without them.

“Part of that situation could be about to come true, so we have had time to think about how we would get on without them.”

The smaller 10 SPL clubs have a once-only opportunity to redraw the power and financial map in Scottish football.  They want more of your money and this is their chance to get it.  They also want to be able to vote crazy ideas into the league that benefit teams without many fans or good players.

This is perfectly understandable and expected.  The distribution of TV income currently favours successful clubs, who are invariably featured most often.  Smaller clubs want to change this into a more equitable distribution model.  You and I will still buy the overwhelming majority of subscriptions, but our club will receive less cash from the TV deal.

“Part of that situation” refers to an SPL without Rangers.  This meeting is likely to end Newco Rangers hopes of getting straight back into the SPL in their tracks.  Without knowing the numbers in favour of a change, this looks like the killer blow, delivered before any proposition from Craig Whyte reaches the agenda.

We have discussed the need for Whyte to present a fait-accompli in order to get his wish.  Having been unable to do that, others had the opportunity to organise and make alternative plans.

The other important occurrence today was the attendance at the Rolls Building courts in London today by HMRC lawyers, keen to secure any monies seized from Collyer Bristows’ client account last week.  HMRC have made it perfectly clear they are all over Duff and Phelps and will seek court intervention to secure their rights.

This is significant.

You can make what you like about a more even distribution of SPL TV money, or the possibility of being held to ransom in future by bad teams who want to vote themselves out of relegation, but the only thing we know for sure is that this has been a profoundly bad day for Craig Whyte and anyone else hoping to phoenix a Newco Rangers.

In light of today‘s developments,  Mr Whyte and the administrators have some thinking to do before announcing any plans tomorrow.

I have no big insight – but doesn’t this all mean that the court-room phase is just about to start?

  3. Chill fellow Tims!

The media hype is just that nothing has changed over the last few days apart from a few crocks agreeing to continue to sit on the treatment table for less wages instead of being shown the door today.

Who is spreading all this joy in hunland?

The ‘Scottish Hun’ tells us a deal is done with the taxman! As there has been no creditors meeting no agreement can be in place. I also think it is highly unlikely that even if it were that D&F would be so unprofessional to disclose confidential discussions with a creditor to the nation. Remember it is the sun we are talking about here. Look at their track record we all know that every story they print is 100% accurate.

The other bringer of joy is our old friend Chick who knows of ‘serious players’ just waiting to move. This is the same Chick who went into print 4 weeks ago saying that there was no chance of going into administration and is the only one to buy Doncaster’s tosh. That’s our Chick and we love him really but would you take anything he says seriously.

The questions are still there. How can we survive losing £1m a month with no season ticket income for the next three years? Who does have security on Ibrox and Murray Park? We are told it is not If not Whyte. Is it one of his companies? Ticketus? LBG? If Whyte is not going to profit what does that mean? Ticketus deal has no value? Yeah I am going to give you £20m without any legal agreement and then just walk away without a trying to get my money back. They are in a mess that will probably take years of litigation to sort out. Look at yesterday they went to the High Court thinking they had got their hands on some money to have 4 other parties (2 of them Whyte) pursuing the same funds. If Hector had rolled over for £50m, £60m,£70m or £90m depending on who you read why was he wasting time appearing at the High Court for a measly £2.8m.

Where are the buyers? Anybody with any sense is going to wait for the corpse and hope to avoid the large tax bill than go for a pig on poke now.

    Chill fellow tims and enjoy!

    Celtic: No Friday media conference

Celtic will not be holding a media conference on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dundee United at Tannadice.

The Parkhead club took the unusual step amid the crisis enveloping Old Firm rivals Rangers.

The Ibrox club’s administrators have warned of significant redundancies on Friday as they bid to keep the Scottish champions afloat.

So Rangers administrators are hoping to meet prospective buyers today and coincedently one of their administrators has given an interview to a newspaper saying he expects HMRC to do a deal.

Enmac, they way I see it the administrators are trying to pressurise the players into accepting reduced wages via the media. No agreement yet except with the 2 injured players who were probably told to sign up or be laid off.

I don’t think there is/are any restriction/s on the share holders of Celtic FC buying a club in England. None at all.

I am sure we could buy them but equally sure we couldn’t relocate them back to Glasgow! So no real point-think Celtic might have looked into the possibility of buying Carlisle at one point but dismissed the idea.

McGreggor earning €25k a week. Takes 75% paycut, now earning €6.25k a week.

Broadfoot earning €12k a week. Takes 50% paycut, now earning €6k a week.

Would you no’ be sick at earning just €250pw more than Clubfoot??

Just phoned HMRC and asked if i could just pay 50% of our company’s Paye due instead of the 100%..the very nice lady who answered had a very polite and professional way of telling me to GTF…

Thinking further maybe because Sky have the CL rights so they can show what they like but our games were on ESPN.

  25. optimistic little soldier

I think that was the problem. They couldn’t agree on who was high medium or low brackets. e.g. If broadfoot on £13k he would after 50% be on £6.5k so more than someone on £25k who had to take 75% cut.

  26. Just 24 hours ago Ranjurs were on the brink of extinction and now everything it seems is hunky dory.

A million pounds a month will be cut from their wage bill today and they will be able to come out of admin soon and complete the season, HMRC’s demands will be met with ease and there are TEN people lining up to invest their money with the lucky winning bidder owning ALL of the club.

Wow! Impressive stuff…and all achieved in a day. Surreal or what?

  27. My favourite Huns/media story . . .

In the late 90s I was driving home from work along the Edinburgh bypass, listening the Radio Scotland. Just after the 5 o’clock news, over to Chick Young for the sports news.

Chick: I can exclusively reveal that at this very moment, Alessandro del Piero is locked in talks at Ibrox with Sir David Murray and the Italian superstar is expected to be paraded as a Rangers player in the morning.

    I nearly crashed the car.

There was absolutely nothing in the papers next morning and del Piero’s name was never heard again, at least in the same sentence as Rangers.

Someone had obviously wound wee Chick up a good one. My money’s on Gazza.

To me, this was Chick’s Artur Jorge moment.
