GIAKOUMAKIS SETBACK

GREEK striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has NO chance of playing in Celtic’s Premier Sports League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone at Hampden on Saturday evening.

Boss Ange Postecoglou has ruled out the £2.5million summer recruit as he reckons it has come too soon for the frontman who could also be out for another week.

And, as anticipated, Swedish central defender Carl Starfelt and Australian playmaker Tom Rogic will also be sidelined for the intriguing confrontation against Callum Davidson’s double Cup winners.

Giakoumakis has had a slow start to his career in the hoops and, after scoring his only goal to date in the 2-0 Premiership win over the Perth club in Glasgow last month, he blew the opportunity a week later of a stoppage-time winner against Livingston, but he fluffed a penalty-kick and the game remained goalless.

Postecoglou has every confidence the forward will come good once he has overcome a knee injury sustained in the 4-2 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

The Greek-Australian gaffer also admitted there was a clean bill of health of the returning international players.
