Gilmour bitterness towards Lawwell evident

645

If you were in any doubt about what we’re up against when it comes to developing Scottish football, former St Mirren chairman, Stewart Gilmour’s incoherent rant in one of today’s newspapers, that Peter Lawwell is running Scottish football, paints a clear picture for you.

Peter Lawwell’s club, your club, PAYS for Scottish football. Fans of this club pour millions into the bank accounts of others from Dingwall to Kilmarnock. Those same clubs earn TV money and trackside advertising to viewers who tune in to see that very same club play football.

Each SPFL and SFA member club has only one vote, and Peter Lawwell is out-voted and frustrated on many issues. What he brings to the table is experience of the game, business, commercial contracts, risk and strategy that no one else in our game has ever enjoyed.

He will be the person who brings evidence-based insight into the value of our game’s commercial properties. This is not because Peter Lawwell is some unassailable guru, he simply has experience of running a business which is greater in depth and scope than anyone else in the history of Scottish football. The fair-minded acknowledge this and are thankful for it.

If your skillset is more suited to a bowling club committee than a business turning over tens of millions of pounds, and you have an unfortunate attitude towards Celtic representatives, all this might rub you up the wrong way.

You may think the last person you want illuminating Scottish football is some educated ******. Believe me, these attitudes persist in our game.

Gilmour, you will remember, was in charge of St Mirren when Charles Green (then the darling of Ibrox), was invited to New St Mirren Park for a Celtic game. They all wanted a piece of Peter then, but there was no courtesy offered from the Celtic contingent on the day.

This is a call to arms by those who want to encourage clubs to obstruct Celtic in every way possible. Peter Lawwell is their bogeyman. They are still sore that they didn’t turnover Celtic (and the rest of Scottish football) in 2012, and they blame Peter for not getting what they wanted.

Now there is a fresh reality to worry about: Celtic making their own way in the world, with the consent of Scottish football. Others will find their place in the game, while one club would wither on the vine without Celtic to feed off.

  1. I listened to quite a few americans being interviewed prior to the election in the US and the majority sounded like decent people being left behind an increasingly globalised world. What that means is, they’re competeing for work with workers in China, Malaysia, Europe, India, South America, etc….

Some of those workers will be educated and skilled, others unskilled and doing simple manual work, but the average Trump voter just sees jobs lost abroad and their towns dying.

What many of them want is a return to the days where they went to work at the local plant, guaranteed a job for life and their kids following in their steps.

They see Trump as delivering that.

And you know what. He will. To SOME extent, but at a cost for everyone else, including you and me.

What Trump and his buddies objective was, to get their hands on all the lovely moola. The USA is crying out for a new deal moment and it looks likely to be coming (maybe) and they want to be the guys handing out trillions of dollars in contracts – to their buddies.

Only trouble is you can’t walk anywhere on Capital Hill without the rather unpleasant oder from the traces of…. little Trump gifts that’s he’s left lying around.

Now he thinks, because he’s used to it, that everyone in the giant USA govt machine is going to say OK Donald, what do you want us to do? It ain’t going to work that way.

I heard an American political commentator being interviewed the other day and he said that peoples perceptions are that the US Govt services is run by a bunch of long lunch eating lazy good for nothing party animals and that Donald will be in for a surpise as it’s nothing like that. These folks are highly intelligent, well educated people who know exactly how govt works and runs and persuading these people to act unprofessionaly, to circumvent legisalation, etc, ain’t gonna happen.

Donald is not used to hard work, he’s used to saying make it so and it happens. That’s not what will happen after tomorrow.

News coming in tonight to that the Fed are already making signals to say that Trumps economic strategy is already looking like it won’t get past first base and any attempt to force it would have undesirable consequences on a global scale.

The guy is the most un-presidential president you can imagine and he fought real dirty to get there. He has made plenty of enimies, so for me he gets everything that’s coming to him, whether it hypocritical or not.

    He won’t last two years.

‘How many states have voter ID laws?

Voter ID laws in the United States. A voter ID law is a law that requires some form of identification in order to vote or receive a ballot for an election. In the United States, voter ID laws are in place in thirty-three states.”

Good post ..in my opinion ( bitter old lefty that I am)

Trump cares about himself and his inner circle…he doesnt give a flying F**K about the jobless in the midwest, the KKK,the illegal immigrants, legal immigrants,or any group you care to mention. But he blustered all the right bluster to get enough people to vote for him.

None of his big promises/threats will come to pass ( walls jobs etc)

But he will slash taxes for the richest. He will invade somewhere far away where people have dark skin,he will do away with as many enviromental safeguards and workers rights legislation as he can.

The wording in MSM articles, books etc… are meaningless/irrelevant. They are opinion pieces only.

The only relevant documents are the official ones put out by the SFA in 2012 which clearly state RFC charged with various offences, found guilty and punished by relegation/demotion to Division 3.

What do you mean such documents don’t exist? Did you look in the shredder basket?

Correct. He doesn’t give a damn about the Rust Belt, who voted him in, but they will still benefit indirectly as he regally hands out grants and funding for whatever mad scheme his pal has dreamed up. No problem Bob, here’s 500 mil to build an interstate into the middle of no where. And give some of the local boys a job.

And if you’re going to hire illegal immigrants, just make sure they’re paid substantially less and the local boys and make sure they know it.

  28. More important than the Trump coronation tomorrow is the fact that a Mrs Greta McGowan who lives in Greenock will be one hundred years old. She is a remarkable lady who does her weekly shopping, helps out in her parish and one day a week is in the tea bar at the Inverclyde Royal. Oh, and she wants to know how the Celtic got on after every game. She originally lived in Lanarkshire, only coming to Greenock during the war. At one time, she was a neighbour of the older McStays.

    You are still misunderstanding.

Voter ID law in 33 states means that there are 33 states that want picture ID when show show up at the polling station.

To register to vote you dont need a picture ID. That is another process where you need to be vetted as a tax payer or state resident with some other ID . The County commissioners office in the county in the state that you reside checks you out. Once you prove that you are a tax paying resident with a recognized address of the county you register in then you are put on the ballot. Painful process for many. That is why American turnout is traditionally low.

The drivers licence debate in North Carolina for example was to target people showing up at the polling station without drivers licences. Poor people, blacks, out of state students traditional democrat voters. Trust me illegals cannot vote in America.
