Glib, shameless, fit and proper

1532

Before digesting news reports that Dave King is set to return to Scottish football as a director of Newco Rangers, it’s probably worth a caveat.  Today’s ‘news’ has the same heritage as pretty much every false steer emanating from Ibrox over the past decade.  Honest Dave King may well hope to take over at Ibrox but I could just as easily believe he has no intentions of getting involved.

Two months ago King accepted liability for 41 counts of contravening the South African Income Tax Act, while agreeing to pay the resultant bill, the equivalent of £46m.  By act of sheer comic genius he is being heralded as the most appropriate person to take control of Newco Rangers, the club brought about by the disastrous income tax affairs of Oldco Rangers, while King was on the board.

Lord Nimmo Smith prevaricated on some issues in his report into Oldco but he was unequivocal in his condemnation of the directors, including King. South African judge, Brian Southwood, described King as a “glib and shameless liar” in 2011.

In every practical sense this man is a perfect fit for the Rangers group of clubs.  Every scrap of information available on how he conducts his affairs screams ‘Rangers tradition’.

As for Fit and Proper?  Don’t make me quote a second judge!

In the event the SFA have to make a Fit and Proper decision on King they will have to consider Nimmo Smith’s view.  It is not even remotely credible that the SFA are competent to rule on King while their president was subject to the same criticism from Nimmo Smith (although Judge Southwood provides a convenient out).

The narrative being peddled today is a final throw of the dice by some, nothing more.  ‘A guy will hunn’ers of millions is coming in to make everything OK’.  Aye, sure thing.

Making an excellent point without receiving feedback is part of the territory on here.

I think it is mainly because the subject matter has been dealt with so comprehensively that debate is pointless.

As such,it should be viewed as a compliment.

Free prescriptions were first introduced by the devolved Welsh government.

The Labour administration had got the fee down to £3 , and proposed the abolition of charges, a move approved by the SNP[ supported by Labour] when they took power.

So when you’re speculating on these matters would it be permissible to look round and see how things are dealt with at the moment in those areas of Scottish life where matters are dealt with by Scots in Scotland without any outside intereference?

And, seeing as this is a football board, would it be permissible to select say the SFA and Shortbread (or STV) as a couple of such areas?

Now supposing we did that, would it be permissible to extrapolate from those couple of examples what other aspects of life might be like in a separate Scotland?

Or are we to discount or ignore all the available evidence and assume everything will be for the best in the best of all possible worlds?

Yes you’re right about Salmond and I certainly don’t want to come across as an American voter, where personality takes precedence over policy.

However, I find it very difficult to vote for someone that I have such a personal distrust and dislike of. That in conjunction with some of his policies and his desire to surround himself with muppet bigots like Graham have only strengthened my view.

I’m at a loss to understand why or how Scotland leaving the UK would influence anyone in the north of Ireland to change their position to support for a united Ireland.

If anything I’d guess it would strengthen the resolve of those currently opposed and make it less likely that those undecided would move to support the idea.

Again, you are correct. Who know what might happen. Without Scotland the UK will look quite different. England, Wales and NI will have a different relationship, and I’m sure all will be thinking about what is best for them.

I would not be surprised if both Wales and NI look to strengthen their own positions for fear of being rolled over by England on every decision. If I were them I’d be looking, at least, for more devolved powers.

    Leftclick,

It has been an incredible saga spidery and corruption, abetted by the Institutions in Scotland.

The whole farce could / should have been stopped as soon as Murray pocketed his pound coin,.

Instead, we had every pillar of Scottish Law, Media, Politics, and their minions, bending and breaking every law and rules of the game and business to accommodate them.

    Scottish Independence ?

    One must be joking.

Unfortunately, many decent people are having their aspirations compromised by these events, which are greater than mere football.

  24. MWD @ 13.28

I admire your optimism, but I disagree.

Hoping that things will be better after a Yes vote is a wee bit Oscar Wilde.

“A triumph of hope over experience”

although he was talking about people who get married a second time.

I have a friend who was married once. The marriage was not a happy one, but he and his spouse somehow thought that a baby would help the marriage stabilize. Not surprisingly, after the baby was born nothing really changed and the marriage continued its downward spiral to the inevitable divorce.

The problems in Scotland today will only be exacerbated by independence.

Less money, fewer jobs, incompetent leaders and no checks and balances from Westminster on the excesses on the glorified town council in the Scottish Parliament.

Salmond, Christine Graham and others have shown that they will pander to the majority on any issue rather than lead and do the right thing. That will not change after any Yes vote. It’ll just be more of the same with the same lack of accountability: destroying assault data that is inconvenient, casually criminalizing people so that they can avoid the truth within that data, praising a corrupted, bigoted organisation as being part of the fabric of Scottish society.

    Questions for the YES voters.

    In a newly independent Scotland

Will the OO walks be banned?

Will all types of religious/political marches be encouraged?

Will the media report issues in a balanced and fair manner?

Will the legislation that set out to criminalize people be withdrawn?

The answer IMHO is a resounding NO to all of those questions.

His lifestyle involves essentially casual relationships with multiple sexual partners, a group or club of women known as his “hunny bunnies” to whom, in return for their sexual favours, he makes lavish gifts, including money, clothes and holidays, as well as providing flats and cars for their use……………..

I personally don’t think an independent Scotland would have a large effect on voting within NI. What may change is whether England would want to hold onto NI? It’s unlikely the Tories would need the Unionist MPs onside to keep a majority. Just a thought about what could happen rather than being Yes/No on the vote.

  27. For the record I have not argued that a separate Scotland would hasten a United Ireland.

In all my posts I have argued that I am hopeful a vote on independence and a Yes result may galvanise support for an all-Ireland referendum on unification.

As for recent departures from last seasons squad if you were to add Sammi to that list,in my opinion again,he would be the only one capable of getting a place on the Barca bench and that’s including being ahead of the Dorises world class contender, big Vic,who ended up where ? Southampton
