Good Friday is just another Friday for you

1828

Sometimes it seems there is a constant struggle underway for the heart and soul of Celtic.  It is incredible that for 125 years a community has managed to retain the conviction to help the less fortunate which drove forward those who formed the club.

Scarcely a day goes by without me receiving a message from someone offering to help those in need.  This week it was tables for the Wayside Club Gala Dinner (Saturday 27 April, check it out here), someone send in a box set of the Byrds, to raise money ‘for the homeless’, and a reader parted with a precious top signed by the Seville team, which I’ve to collect in Glasgow.

Much of this goes on below radar but when a call to arms is needed it goes out in impressive clarity; the Wee Oscar campaign slipped into an infrastructure established when Kano took ill a few years back (hope you are doing well, Kano and we hear from you soon).  Believe me, some of the work, and many of the discrete donations, would blow you away.

None of this is random.  At some point each and every person who has stepped forward did so, knowingly or not, because of the way the Celtic Movement infected them.

A number of Celtic fans, and one former treble winning captain, are helping the Celtic Charity this year with the objective of encouraging each Celtic fan to raise £125.  It feels like the right thing to do and if you’ve not brought yourself up to speed with the project yet, do it this weekend (more information here).

There will be formal events throughout the year but if you want to do a sponsored run/walk/cycle/jig, this is your invitation.  You are reading this stuff because of your link all the way back to that hall in the Calton; get involved and earn your place in that 125-year-old story.

The next major event is a mass huddle at the top of Ben Nevis, check it out here.

Enjoy your Easter holiday – but not before you get involved………

  4. TET,

Totally agree with the rest of the post.

A rock and a hard place for the club.

If they can’t change things, then do they do a BC or a DC.

DC is out of their hands and there is nothing to be gained, except martyrdom for BC.

I have a lot of sympathy for the club, but only if they haven’t acquiesced in the corruption.

It is one thing to have been beaten by a corrupt system, but not if you are part of the corruption.

That is the risk they run, if they stay under the blanket too long.

The club will be irreparably broken.

Interesting comment from the Hamilton Accies chairman.

In mentioning his disappointment with the poor support for reconstruction from SFL clubs, he spoke of some of the lowere league clubs voting for ” self interest or other things”.

I wonder to what he was referring.

Was it bribery? Was it masonry?

    A strange, but loaded comment.

  7. Now John savage is thru to the mastermind final he will be introduced to millions of viewers as having answered questions on a previous round on the history of celtic football club. Don’t suppose Sevco fans watch mastermind though.

TET – Celtic are first and foremost a football club, there is no business without said football club. The football club is owned by a plc, which is a business, but one which has to operate within set guidelines, unlike other ill-fated club/company set ups run by snake oil salesman.

The Celtic Charity Fund has dished out more than £3M of Celtic’s money to many well deserving causes, so I think you’ve been unfair on the people charged with running our club.

  9. If you get penalised for “passing” on Mastermind why not just answer “Mickey Mouse” to any question you can’t answer?

Mind you, I appreciate that it lacks sporting integrity….

and another way of looking at it is that the £3m to charity is 100% more than sevco get for renaming the bigotdome……….

Just got a text from a friend of mine, an Aberdeen fan, who has been following Big John on Mastermind, and who has taped tonight’s show but is now watching it. Do I text back and tell him who won?

  14. On the sevco shirt sponsorship. Heard before they were ‘offered’ £300k on a take-it-ot-leave-it basis by C & C. Total farce started from green and his guys boastin’ first emirates and then easyjet were interested (they didn’t even have a shirt design/manufacturer at the time to allow the C & C guys to start working on how it would all look, and seemed surprised that this was a pre-requisite). C & C stood still and done the Magners deal with Celtic.

Don’t know if it’s true or what happened next but guess sevco held their nerve, and knocked back emirates and easyjet, and got a right bumper deal for promoting C & C’s premier brand.

I wonder what the other things are ?

I actually fonud it strange that the lower clubs would vote against the proposals, they would benefit from another season of the huns, more money than they have ever had.

So the bribes or masonery seems to be on the button, but it’s scotland and expected, nothing to see here Timmy.

I am a bit like yourself re the club.

My head is telling me one thing, my heart another.

i don’t want to believe, but I can’t see any other answer.

They have and are failing the shareholders, that is evident, so for that reason alone, they should be shown the door, but they are doing a decent job of running the club considering the obsticals they face, as you say a rock and a hard place.

But they are imo condoning the corruption by their silence, even if they sorted the problems with the referees, that would give a sort of a level playing field, but they are not even doing that, it baffles me so it does, are they happy at the back of the bus ?

Anyways, off to bed soon, up way before the crack of dawn.
