Gordon positioning, return leg fitness exercise

526

The immediate benefit of last night’s 0-3 win away to Alashkert, is that the manager can use Wednesday’s return game as an opportunity to get squad fitness to the required level, without having to worry about qualification.

We have 180 minutes football to get ready for Rosenborg or Valur.  The former are 16 league games and five months into their season.  And you do not need to be reminded, Rosenborg dusted themselves down after defeat to Celtic last season to end Ajax’ interest in European football before the end of August.

Did you notice Craig Gordon seemed anchored to his six yard box, allowing space between him and the defence for long balls to be pitched into?  Not sure what the plan was here but it didn’t help.  There is a newness about the defensive line-up which would benefit from the keeper taking a more active role.

Odsonne Edouard and Moussa Dembele looked a real handful.  Both held the ball and withstood attention from multiple opponents.  James Forrest got a goal and, technically, two assists, although his contribution to the opener was a shot he will try to forget.  James produced the difference between Celtic and Rosenborg a year ago, his experience at this level will be valuable in two weeks.

There will be tougher tests for Lewis Morgan but his directness impressed.

  1. England haven’t played 1 decent team during the whole competition thus far – FACT.

  2. Pop quiz. What would be worse.

    1. England winning the world cup

    2. Sevco winning the Champions league

  3. Disappointed to have missed the fine Celtic performance last night – probably the best result achieved by the team in one of these edge of Europe countries in suffocating heat – due to new lines being fitted by Eircom telecommunications in my area and what a day they picked to do the work.

Looking forward to the big game to-night and quite surprised to hear that the population of Croatia is a mere 4 million and great to see that a country of that size can produce such a great football team and like even Iceland should be an inpiration to us all from small countries. Great excitement also in England and i imagine most of the support is from people who follow the smaller clubs. Many of the England players are not even first choice for their clubs and indeed from less fashionable sides.

Harry Kane of course with his Irish realtions is making big news in Galway.

England have had an easy ride so far and this is the first big test Croatia can do it if they still have the energy.

Strange happenings in West Renfrewshire today. Don’t know if there’s any tims from Lochwinnoch-Beith-Dalry looking in but there’s a big house at the roundabout leaving the village. There’s two flagpoles in the garden, one with the the saltire the other has the butcher’s apron.

Drove past today and the butcher’s apron had been replaced with the flag of Eire ! I had to treble check it in disbelief.

Anybody know if the guy has seen the light or is it a land grab !

    Come on you Croatia

When you look at the band routes around glasgow, the Drumchapel, Dalmarnock and Bridgeton walks to routes that ALLWAYS go past catholic schools , place of worship, or celtic pubs and clubs. Its deliberate.

Why the Bridgeton ones need to go into the Calton , well there is only reason. To create that false supremacy,.

    ====================

I think that is spot on.

It is the ” what are you going to do about it?” that I thinks angers most folk they parade in front of. There is no reason whatsoever why they need to march past places of worship especially at a time worship is taking pace.

That should be a red line for those authorizing parades and if it isn’t then THEY should be asking why not?

The pathetic thing about them is that they are not be comfortable in their own skin as human beings and their sense of self worth is dependent on a judgement of others they are ill prepared and educated to make.

That is the core of the problem imo and until it is recognized (like the first of the 12 steps*) .there is no possibility of change.

    * We admitted we were powerless over our need for self worth – that our lives have become unmanageable.

If I can go further they are driven by the guilt of a past where by any civilized measure great wrongs were done, but in the absence of a tradition of contrition and forgiveness, they can only march down the same guilt paved streets to protect themselves from themselves.

  9. STV player showing all the boak inducing ‘come on Engerlund’ messages. Your a Scottish channel FFS show a bit of decorum

  10. Right game on.

The best team playing the best football to win is who I’ll be supporting over the next 90 to 120 minutes and if its England or Croatia I’ll approach the final in the same frame of mind.

  11. Another set piece goal by England.

The set piece coaching is excellent.

    Great free kick by Trippier.

  14. Looks like Croatia are overrated, ball wide then high ball into the box, surely they must be better than that,England giving nothing away at the edge of their box either, ref kind to England so far.

  15. England can no longer sound off about cheating foreigners.

They have mastered the art of going down at slightest contact.

Kane for his size seems easy to knock over.

  16. very frustrating how easily players are going down at pretty much every challenge. What happened to “it’s a man’s game” ?
