Great times for Celtic

822

It’s always encouraging to read positive comment on your club, so the positivity from a sports brand consultant at Brand Finance was welcome.  Apparently we are something of a commercial miracle, reaching parts no one else from a small country can come close to.

It’s also delightful hearing about glamour preseason friendlies (not quite announced yet, but coming).  We are a club with more than just history, we have a team the best in the world want to play.  We also have a future.

We have the league championship trophy in the boardroom, Champions League qualifiers to look forward to, and the sun is shining on Glasgow!

These are great times for Celtic.

The Butney had it’s fair share of nutters.Thankfully by the mid 70s-mid 80s most were Tims.

The worst I experienced was after the 3-1 game against the Huns in 1987.The police made us walk down to London Rd and the Huns charged at the Celtic fans. My pal said “if you stand your ground they’ll back off”. Unfortunately I believed him and turned round to see him doing some impressive high hurdling of the garden fences in Barrowfied. That was the day I learned the roll into a ball and don’t expose your head and Charles De Gaulle technique.

The one thing I can say about the Huns is that they have a very low attention span and gave up booting me fairly quickly with no real damage, unlike my pal who jumped into a garden over a hedge and landed on a car battery which tore his knee tendons.

Following the BBC evidence, there is no way the SFA / SPL can NOW proceed with anything other than integrity ……. I feel they (newclub) will not be allowed into the SPL next season ……. Their ‘crimes’ have been too extensive, and there’s more to come (of which the SFA / SPL already know the detail) ……..taking the signing ban issue to court is a measure of their desperation…….and this has REALLY shocked / angered the SFA / SPL………patience

THE CELTIC BOARD ARE, LIKE ALL CELTIC SUPPORTERS, TOTALLY AGAINST THEM GETTING BACK INTO THE SPL, under any circumstances..

The CST are writing/have written to the SFA to clarify the position.

What is being reported is in effect the SFA are powerless to govern the SPL.

In that case no need for an SFA or indeed Uefa and the SPL can do what they like. No offsides?Goal line technology? Bring it on.

The bigger issue here is who governs football and if the report is right (and that clarification is being sought) The SFA are redundant.

Dreadful tactics and formation from Scotland last night. The team ostensibly could have been a decent 4-2-3-1, with Maloney playing behind Millery (bring back the orange-peel) – Brown and McCarthur the 2 CMs, and Phillips and Bannon either side. As it was, we had the flat 4-5-1, Maloney doing his disappearing act out wide, and too many players (als, Mulgrew included) shopwing they are not International class.

The above may be unfair, however, as Scotland have a manager who is totally out of his depth. Levein gives good press, however, so will no doubt keep his job.

C.L. is way down there with John Barnes in the managerial stakes. As long as he is manager Scotland will qualify for nothing.

  15. Chic Young played a blinder yesterday:

Praised the old board for bringing the debt down; didn’t mention not paying tax though.

Lied about them not signing players, totally forgot about numerous signings including Jelavic.

Supported the idea that D&P should withhold evidence using the analogy of a criminal not giving up firearms or drugs as that would incriminate them.

Pleaded for someone to stop CELTIC winning leagues…

I used to find his confused mutterings amusing but it really is time to go. If I performed like that at work I’d be out the door.

His whole contribution to this story is AJ nodding to him, brilliant! Pulitzer for Chic.

The SFA/SPL can’t possibly give assurances on sanctions when they haven’t even begun / completed ‘their’ investigation(s) can they?

    —–

SFA deferring decisioning making to SFL but you would think SPL investigation would not include cups.

I think the wee tax case was another tax swindle (not ebt) but still contractual and contracts nit lodged with SFA.

    …………………………

That is what came out of the Offensive Behaviour Bill, when Broadfoot was being questioned he came out with all sorts of waffle but the Convener cut through it and he admitted more or less that they were a toothless tiger.

So no regulation of football in Scotland then?

Don’t think the powers in Zurich will like that.

This supposed “deal” with HMRC; is it for the 15M they owe from this year perhaps?

They still owe 4M on the wee tax case.

I do not see HMRC dealing when they have bigger fish to fry in England. They need the precedent (as English law is all about precedents) to go after the EPL clubs involved in similar “schemes”.

How could Souness be paid via an employee benefit trust? Surely the hint is in the name?…..

    …….

Quite right there an EBT payment can only be made to an employee, now if an ex employee was given a large sum of money around 10yrs later it would have to payment for some other activity, in the defence industry these payments are called slush funds allegedly! The Serious Fraud Office would know.

All creditors in the same class must be treated equally under a CVA, therefore a deal struck with one must be honoured for all.

    THERE WILL BE NO CVA

RFC(IA) will very soon become RFC(liquidated)

RFC (liquidated) should have titles and trophies removed from record book, unsure if the SPL will continue with investigation if liquidated.

There will be months, possibly years of litigation around CW D&P SDM Floating charge Tiketus which will make it difficult for any newco to secure Ibrox to play at.

Time is running out fast, after Thursday I believe it is illegal for d&p to continue trading if they don’t have the funds in place to pay the wages and costs for running in June.

There is a chance there will not be any newco next year (I believe this to be unlikely). If there is a newco, there is many hurdles to overcome (or hoops to jump through ;-)) prior to them having a team or place to play.

A newco will be lucky to be in SFL3 next year, never mind SPL.

ENJOY THIS WHILE IT LASTS, someone mentioned to me when at a book launch, that although entirely different, in terms of historic events, this what we are going through right now is the modern Celtic’s fans Lisbon or 9IAR, from the perspective of not quite knowing how massive it is at the time, it is only retrospectively that it will be truly understood what an epic time we’re living through (© acknowledgement of the use of the word epic to ma wee bhoy, Luke)
