Green/Whyte enablers, racism and Ibrox security

1089

Have you ever seen a ‘Rangers’ director pushed by a journalist on a question he dodged before yesterday?  It’s never happened.  STV’s Peter Smith did something no journalist in the history of Scottish football has done before, pressed a question when the man in charge at Ibrox dodged the initial inquiry.  Smith dismissed the deserved praise that came his way last night by suggesting it’s what a journalist does.  True, but refreshing nonetheless.

I was reminded last night that Green’s examination by the old media has come earlier in his journey to the bottom that Craig Whyte’s did last season.  Whyte was being backed by some, let’s call them enablers, right up until the week before Rangers went into administration.  Unfortunately for Green some in the media, and perhaps a few in the support, were embarrassed by their backing of Whyte last year and will not repeat the mistake.

Apart from the aforementioned Green, I have only ever known one person to use the word “darkie” (I missed 1970s ‘comedians’).  He was born in the first years of the 20th century, too young for the first war and too old to be conscripted for the second.  Well into his 90s, I heard him say “there are a lot of darkies on TV these days”.  He was reprimanded and immediately realised what he had done.  An apology and a period of over-compensation followed.

It falls to SFA president Campbell Ogilvie to ensure that such language has no place in Scottish football.  Disciplinary proceedings should be issued, unless, of course, the SFA view the matter in a different light.  Any future appearance of a Charles Green image on a banner or effigy at Celtic Park, or use of the words ‘Our New Hero’ to describe him, should not be regarded as an endorsement of his views, only his work in football.

Celtic minstrels will write songs about him, I have heard the words “man-love” being used this week.

Will Newco stay active long enough for Craig Whyte’s security over Ibrox, crystallised by yesterday’s ruling that he owes Ticketus circa £17m and therefore had a piece of the action at Rangers after all, to have an effect?  There are so many icebergs around Newco probably not.

It was interesting to hear Manchester United’s endorsement of Newco as a potential English Premier League club being debated on STV.  Now out of Europe, Manchester United were asked if they would play a fundraiser at Ibrox later this month.  I hope Green’s comments on the interview don’t spoil relations.

I was pleased to hear we were drawn at home for the next game but for pity’s sake, sending Motherwell to Tannadice the day before defeats the point. This is a complete failure.

Add this to the fact that Fraser Forster’s biggest fan is making his First Holy Communion when we are at home to St Johnstone on 11 May and you get a taste of the frustration in our house last night.

He realises the importance of his First Communion but thought we could cancel the party afterwards and have an alternative celebration at Celtic Park. We’ll distract him on the day…..

As many of you are already aware, the Celtic Trust have arranged a process whereby, if you live in Scotland, you can easily contact your MSP to back the FAC call for an inquiry into policing at the Gallowgate last month.  You can find the information and template here, go do it.

  1. I received the following from my MSP today, I

sent an e mail to him just after the event and then

    on Monday of this week.

    Thank you for your email.

It has been obvious from the outset that this is an extremely serious issue, which is why I wanted to take the time to discuss the matters raised with me with both Strathclyde Police and officials at Celtic Football Club.

According to Strathclyde Police they had originally allocated a couple of officers to the event in March, however when the number of members of the public present were deemed to be too many for the officers present to police adequately reinforcements were called in. A further call for reinforcements was submitted when the police felt it was required due to the volatility of those present. Strathclyde Police believe that all tactics used to maintain public order were legitimate and proportionate. I understand that a number of people believe this was not the case, and have alleged that police officers were ‘heavy handed’ with members of the public. If there is a specific incident concerning you or another member of the public where you believe that this has been the case, then I would urge you to report this to the Police Complaints Commission at the earliest opportunity if you have not already done so, more information on this can be found here: http://pirc.scotland.gov.uk/

At my meeting with Ronnie Hawthorn, Operations, Security and Safety Manager at Celtic Football Club, he told me that Celtic have tried on a number of occasions to engage with members of the Green Brigade and have invited them to meet with officials at Celtic Park four times this year to discuss a range of issues. To date all four of these invitations have been declined. Mr Hawthorn has received a number of emails from concerned fans about what happened at Gallowgate and he has also been communicating with Strathclyde Police and Glasgow City Council on the matter.

It is clear to me that all authorities concerned are taking the matter seriously, as do I as your elected member and a city MSP.

Some of those who have emailed me have made reference to the recent Offensive Behaviour and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act that was passed by the Scottish Parliament last year. It seems clear to me from my discussions that this legislation has had no additional impact on events that took place in the Gallowgate recently, as the police informed me that anyone who was arrested under this legislation would previously have been arrested for other offences and breaches.

My colleague Graeme Hendry, SNP Group Leader in Glasgow City Council, wrote to Labour Councillor Philip Bratt, Chair of Strathclyde Police Board, who said in his view it didn’t merit an investigation at this time. I have attached a copy of this letter for your information.

Although I reiterate that these scenes and the subsequent response from the police do not appear to concern the Offensive Behaviour and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act, and instead concerns legislation surrounding public protests and public order from 2006, you may be interested to know that there is to be a review of this legislation in the near future. I have agreed with Mr Hawthorn that I am more than happy to work with him and his colleagues at Celtic Football Club, or any interested body, when this review comes to Parliament. You can find more information on the review here: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/News/Releases/2013/03/obact01032013

I trust that this information is useful. If there is anything else I can assist with please do not hesitate to contact me.

  14. Completely on the Green Brigade’s side but they really do shoot themselves in the foot. If they want changes then they need to speak to and work with the club and report things through the appropriate channels. Demonstrations and walk-outs are all very well and good for raising awareness but there’s no point if allegations aren’t actually followed up with investigations and that can only happen when things are reported properly.

There’s no point in raising awareness without working to change things otherwise it’s just inviting trouble and battles.

Murray decides that the money fans invested in Debentures, is no longer a liability but in fact it’s an asset. He then promptly increases his borrowings on the back of this non consulted decision

    2

Murray , having been informed by the original Trustees in Jersey they were unhappy with his operation of the EBT scheme, finds and appoints the most compliant Trustee in The Channel Islands. This allows him to continue with his film flam EBT scheme for another few years

    3

Murray appoints his own in house valuer for his portfolio of properties. The institutional valuers clearly having reached the end of their usefulness. This little move allowed the balance sheet to avoid negative net worth

The nature of the outrageous valuations of Murray balance sheets have been demonstrated by the £100′s of millions in losses and asset write downs at MIH since Lloyd’s started controlling the business

    4

Ignoring the report from the Independent Directors, and factual evidence presented daily by “the Bampots” Murray offloads Rangers to Whyte ,who’s plan was administration and pre pack from the outset

This act by Murray , instantly and irrevocably lost every single penny of fan shareholding value

    5

Whyte , after a momentary panic, is allowed to appoint his pet administrators Duff and Phelps. Co-incidentally this was very fortuitous timing for D &P as the fees earned no doubt helped enhance the price they got for selling their own business in 2012. Just a piece of good luck they got fees of £4 million against initial estimates of £500 K

    6

Sevco 5088 and Sevco Scotland . An admitted con , one which lends serious doubts over the legality of the asset sale, the IPO and the SFA Licence

A series of actions which shame the regulatory authorities in Audit, Valuations, Banking, Football and Honours

6 Actions which have been highlighted as ludicrous , questionable and bound to fail at every stage by the “Bampots” . The MSM are now on the case, better late than never, however they are now doing a good job .

The story can’t end though with a scapegoat. Whyte and his business practices are abhorrent, however in my view Green is equally disreputable. His claims and outrageous statements , viewed in light of trying to attract investment, should be the subject of an FSA enquiry. He is equally as deserving of a Directors ban should they find he mislead investors, and there is plenty of evidence that he did

Murray however is the root of all of this. Even today he is being given a treatment by Lloyd’s which differs markedly from other busted flushes . I believed initially that Lloyd’s were merely putting a different cosmetic approach to what was effectively the winding up and sell off of all of MIH assets. He was yesterday’s am and being treated as such by Lloyd’s. However questions need to be asked about the sale of assets from MIH to Murray Capital. Lloyd’s should prove beyond any doubt that Murray paid full value in a competitive bidding process for every asset he purchased. The UK state has paid a heavy price for supporting Murray’s ego fueled efforts to become a player

He failed utterly . His business is carrying losses of £372 million. All of which has been covered by Lloyd’s to spare him the. Ignominy of admisistration and liquidation

40 % of that £372 million is paid directly by the UK government of behalf of UK citizens. That’s £149 million and counting.

It puts the scandal of spending £3,750 per MP to debate Thatcher into perspective

James Crosby , who was an architect of failure at HBOS has offered to return his Knighthood . Small consolation for the incompetent , hubristic damage he wreaked on the economy, but at least he recognizes he’s responsible , culpable and wholly unfit for public accolade

I venture Ally McCoist has more chance of winning the CL than there is of Murray making a similar and necessary gesture

  28. From Manchesterwired 13th May 2012

‘Mr Green appears to have had no direct link with any football club since leaving Sheffield United.

But he has been involved in a range of other industries, including medical research, real estate and agriculture.

Records held at Companies House show Mr Green has held at least 39 different directorships over the years. Fifteen of the firms he has been involved with have since been dissolved.

He appears to move quickly from one post to another, having resigned on 31 occasions, most recently in February.

Mr Green is currently listed as a non-executive director of Nova Resources Limited, which also includes a number of Singaporean and Mongolian-based businessmen on its board.

And he became a director of Sevco 5088 Ltd earlier this month, although the company – which was only formed on 29 March – has not yet listed what its activities are.’
