Green/Whyte enablers, racism and Ibrox security

1089

Have you ever seen a ‘Rangers’ director pushed by a journalist on a question he dodged before yesterday?  It’s never happened.  STV’s Peter Smith did something no journalist in the history of Scottish football has done before, pressed a question when the man in charge at Ibrox dodged the initial inquiry.  Smith dismissed the deserved praise that came his way last night by suggesting it’s what a journalist does.  True, but refreshing nonetheless.

I was reminded last night that Green’s examination by the old media has come earlier in his journey to the bottom that Craig Whyte’s did last season.  Whyte was being backed by some, let’s call them enablers, right up until the week before Rangers went into administration.  Unfortunately for Green some in the media, and perhaps a few in the support, were embarrassed by their backing of Whyte last year and will not repeat the mistake.

Apart from the aforementioned Green, I have only ever known one person to use the word “darkie” (I missed 1970s ‘comedians’).  He was born in the first years of the 20th century, too young for the first war and too old to be conscripted for the second.  Well into his 90s, I heard him say “there are a lot of darkies on TV these days”.  He was reprimanded and immediately realised what he had done.  An apology and a period of over-compensation followed.

It falls to SFA president Campbell Ogilvie to ensure that such language has no place in Scottish football.  Disciplinary proceedings should be issued, unless, of course, the SFA view the matter in a different light.  Any future appearance of a Charles Green image on a banner or effigy at Celtic Park, or use of the words ‘Our New Hero’ to describe him, should not be regarded as an endorsement of his views, only his work in football.

Celtic minstrels will write songs about him, I have heard the words “man-love” being used this week.

Will Newco stay active long enough for Craig Whyte’s security over Ibrox, crystallised by yesterday’s ruling that he owes Ticketus circa £17m and therefore had a piece of the action at Rangers after all, to have an effect?  There are so many icebergs around Newco probably not.

It was interesting to hear Manchester United’s endorsement of Newco as a potential English Premier League club being debated on STV.  Now out of Europe, Manchester United were asked if they would play a fundraiser at Ibrox later this month.  I hope Green’s comments on the interview don’t spoil relations.

I was pleased to hear we were drawn at home for the next game but for pity’s sake, sending Motherwell to Tannadice the day before defeats the point. This is a complete failure.

Add this to the fact that Fraser Forster’s biggest fan is making his First Holy Communion when we are at home to St Johnstone on 11 May and you get a taste of the frustration in our house last night.

He realises the importance of his First Communion but thought we could cancel the party afterwards and have an alternative celebration at Celtic Park. We’ll distract him on the day…..

As many of you are already aware, the Celtic Trust have arranged a process whereby, if you live in Scotland, you can easily contact your MSP to back the FAC call for an inquiry into policing at the Gallowgate last month.  You can find the information and template here, go do it.

The SFA don’t know how to deal with Green. They also don’t want to.

Serious confrontation between Jabba & Green? The club and new club that just keep on giving.

Think that’s right. I reckon CG’ll get turfed at the AGM in August, hence Malky Murray was asked to stay on, probably by the financial investors…..’stay on til the summer, and then we’ll punt CG….’ CG will walk as his shares are still worth £3.5m even though they’ve plummeted to 70p

  5. The real sign that the Ibrox club are in real trouble will be when David Longmuir reports that Dunfermline and Dundee punishments should not be regarded as the norm.

He may add that the Ibrox club’s SPL financial history is of no concern of SFL.

  6. I had to pop out for a couple of hours and i come back and the party at this place is still going on. :))

Have the SFA told us what is in the 5 way agreement yet? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

The tide has turned againt Chuckles (he looked completely rattled on STV ) but again who is behind setting the dogs on him?

Have Murray & his “BROTHERS” really got nothing to do with protecting his reputation in all of this?

  9. I think the racial chat was probably the nail in the coffin for Chuckles. That is woeful PR for a PLC. The investors will be horrified. I’ve had dealings with your Artemis, Cenkos type characters and they’ll be annoyed to say the least. Not for their clients, you understand, but for all the emails they’ll get from Tims slagging them mercilessly for their rum investment.

I think several of them are going to be bitten on the arse by the time this mess unfolds.

I generally live in the belief that “they” have a plan and will not be allowed to fail etc. but I’m starting to think they’re genuinely screwed this time.

  11. The Battered Bunnet on

I was interested to read the Scotsman interview with Walter Smith this afternoon, albeit that there is no byline on the story.

Nevertheless, given the remarkable week Chuckles has had, involving major issues on corporate governance and corporate reputation, it is only right that as a senior and well respected Non-Exec Director (a NED-Leg?) Walter Smith should provide some reassurance to investors and stakeholders.

So here’s what Walter Smith had to say on…

His CEO admitting to fronting Craig Whyte’s Sevco switcheroo vehicle:

“He should watch what he’s saying in future”

And then applying the Sting to the Switcherooner:

“He should watch what he’s saying in future”

And on charges of racism against his CEO:

“He should watch what he’s saying in future”

And on suggestions that the football management team may be broken up:

“I was disappointed to read that”

So there you have. Reputation management at its best.

  12. Charles will not be worried about the SFA notices of complaint.

When this happened in the autumn, he secured one of Scotland’s famous ‘not proven’ verdicts. So why should he expect anything different this time? It’s not as if the mood around Scottish football towards him has changed, is it?

  13. Paul67 et al

I was just about to post that today’s High Court hearing re Portsmouth FC, Fratton Park ownership, security charges etc would make interesting reading but it seems that Lawyers representing the Administrators informed the Judge that an agreement had been reached. Hard to see how it could be given that the case involves so many competing parties with conflicting positions, but that is how it is being reported. Strange one.

  16. Traynor will have a chunky notice period on his contract of employment if he has any sense (quiet at the back), so will walk away with 100 grand in his sky rocket…

  17. Dear John

Thank you for voicing your concern regarding the policing of football under the

Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act

2012, and in particular the incident between the police and Celtic fans on 16

    March 2013.

At the time, Scottish Labour opposed the Scottish Government’s proposals

vigorously. We warned that it risked damaging the positive relationships with

fans that the police need if they are to deal with violent and threatening

behaviour associated with football while keeping genuine supporters onside.

These concerns were not of course confined to Labour MSPs: football fans,

religious organisations, anti-sectarianism charities, children’s charities, the

Law Society and the Human Rights Commission all highlighted problems with the

    SNP’s proposals.

I am concerned that the law has created confusion, when what is actually needed

on this issue is clarity about what constitutes an offence, and what enforcement

measures are necessary and appropriate. This latest incident appears to confirm

our fears, that the law as it now stands hinders rather than helps the policing

of football. That is why I and my Scottish Labour colleagues will renew our

calls that the Act should be subject to review under the procedures for

    post-legislative scrutiny at Holyrood.

At the same time, Scottish Labour supports efforts to tackle sectarianism

wherever it exists in our communities. That means focusing on education and

young people, working with churches, football authorities and fans on positive

practical measures that are based on evidence, and looking for ways to reduce

rather than increase tensions around football and in other aspects of life where

a sectarian element can be found.

I am grateful to you for contacting me on this issue, and I will seek to keep

    you informed of future developments.

    Yours sincerely,

  18. To add to the Chuckles “lies”, what about.

“The chairman of a rival club came and thanked us for our wonderful supporters, he had a local publican give him a cheque for £1000.00 as a thank you because the takings in his bar were so good the day we played them.”

Club remained unnamed as did the Pub/Publican, which is strange considering what a wonderful PR story that would appear to be.

  19. And another

Thank you for your email concerning calls for an inquiry into the policing of a Celtic supporters protest in Glasgow on 16 March 2013.

This issue was raised in parliament on 19 March 2013 when Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill MSP confirmed that decisions on operational policing are a matter for the Chief Constable of Police Scotland.

The Cabinet Secretary went on to say that if a member of the public wants to raise concerns regarding the police response to the march they should contact Chief Constable Stephen House at Police Scotland headquarters. If they are not satisfied with the response received, the matter can be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) who has responsibility to oversee complaints handling procedures in the Scottish police.

The Police, Public Order and Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2006 – introduced by the previous Labour-Liberal administration – sets out the rules regarding the need to obtain permission to march through the street. It is a requirement that an application for permission to march be submitted to the local authority no later than 28 days before any event. This is intended to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to protect the interests both of those who wish to march and of members of the public who might be caught up in an unplanned event.

It is my understanding that the fan protest on Saturday 16th March did not have an application to march and permission had not been sought from Glasgow City Council, which is responsible for the regulation of marches and parades in the Glasgow area.

I fully support the right to peaceful demonstration and I note that a further protest rally was arranged by Celtic fan groups on Saturday 6 April in George Square in Glasgow. I am pleased to see that the event passed off peacefully with no arrests being made amongst an estimated attendance of over 3,000 supporters.

Thank you for taking the time to write to me on this matter.

    Yours sincerely,

Yet again how much due dilligence/background checks etc were done on Challs? As much as they done in Craigy Bhoy by the look of it.Regan must have left this yet again to our friend Ogilvie. The Laptop Loyal also complicit, the need for their club to be taken over by anyone(look how Dave King was feted by them),blinded any attempts to look in to Whyte and now Green.Regan not fit for office.
