Have yourself a troubled night in Glasgow

1188

With Lionel Messi and Barcelona focussed on winning their final group game against Benfica tomorrow night Celtic must achieve a better result against Spartak Moscow than Benfica manage at the Camp Nou to progress to the latter stages of the Champions League.

Aiden McGeady has suffered a recurrence of a pennate muscle tendon injury and is doubtful.  Georgian creative midfielder, Jano Ananidze, is also out injured, while coach Valery Karpin is under pressure to axe Argentine defenders Juan Insaurralde and Nicolas Pareja after both picked up red cards on Friday night against Zenit.  The Russian media have also turned on Dutch midfielder Demy De Zeeuw, who was at least partially culpable for the Zenit defeat.  Celtic could face a more cohesive Russian team tomorrow, although perhaps without some of their more talented players. Who this troubles most remains to be seen.

Reading (and writing) Celtic Quick News you learn of the thousands of actions Celtic fans take in order to assist others or alleviate pain and distress.  In aggregate these actions can and do move mountains.

Yesterday it was announced that one of our family, Rod Stewart, is donating proceeds of his new single, Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, to the Celtic Charity Fund and Teenage Cancer Trust to fight this horrible disease and assist those afflicted by it.

The single will be available for download from this Sunday, 9 December.  It offers you and me the opportunity to raise awareness – and funds – on a level we would otherwise never be able to achieve.  Charity is part of your job as a Celtic fan.  On this occasion, on aggregate, we can have an enormous impact.

Still looking for tickets for tomorrow night?

You can email an auction bid for two Wee Oscar Write Bands, each comes with a free ticket to Celtic v Spartak Moscow.  Send an email with your bid to weeoscar4life@gmail.com.  Competition closes at 20:00 GMT tonight.

You can buy the CQN Annual at the Cathedral House Hotel before the game tomorrow night. The Hotel are organising a lift to the game too!

We’ll pick up on the SFA president once the more important matters are out of the way.

Let’s hope they turn up this time. They were going to protest at the Scottish Cup final as well – but talk is cheap.

Ah Well it looks like Jabbas last partying shot at the internet bampots was another misdirected and missed story

Cue barrel loads of huns shouting it’s a waste of money anyway because even if the taxman wins, he wont get any money from Rangers

(But we all know that’s because rangers went bust and formed a new club to avoid paying it in the first place) so if anyone was stupid enough to apologise to Sally and chuck and co then Sally and chuck should now return that apology to you

    Strip them titles baby!!

  3. Damo Lennon,

Naka had that class but he, like Lubo, seldom was used by their managers. Unfortunately, we don’t currently possess a regular player who fills the bill. I have hopes that the young lhad George may have it. We are certainly crying out for it. Time was, such a forward was seen as an essential in any football team in Scotland.

  6. Putting aside the personalities involved and the bitter invective. How can any organisation appoint someone as Head of Marketing and Communications who has such apparent ignorance of, and hatred towards modern Internet based communications methodology. If true, this Traynor move smacks of more desperate pandering to the masses by Greene. Well done Chuck…..

Have a picket line – I’d support the idea of it – I sincerely hope that violence is not the outcome.

    Aye, it’s brilliant stuff.

I tried to post a comment the other day, but for some reason it wouldn’t let me, probably cos I’m thick when it come to modern tech.

“I had hoped that my days of seeing Rangers supporters battering into one another were long gone.”

They are long gone. It will be Chelsea and Celtic fans “battering into one another” at Tannadice.

I agree, though, about the humorous aspect of the line. Is there another club in the world who could talk so blithely of the days when their OWN fans battered one another?

    Quite superb.

Five years ago today Oscar Cardozo and Benfica helped Celtic to reach the Last 16 in a 1-2 victory over Shakthar Donetsk

Remember it well. We lost 1-0 in San Siro but celebrations still ensued.

  15. ………Sorry mate.

  16. I am very happy that we will be in Europe post Christmas, for a young squad put together on the cheap we have been fantastic to get to this stage,in this group, and still be competing. The only point that I will show any interest in the Barca result will be after our game finishes or if we happen to be well ahead in the final stages.

Looking forward immensely to the game tomorrow, will be in nice and early for the pre match build up.

An early goal for us would be great.

  17. I can only hold my breath in there for so long. So last one…

After all the positive stories about our support around the world, to then be destroyed by some knuckle draggers.

  18. Murdochbhoy, yermanfromMK on

    Kojo

I agree with you on Ambrose in midfield, he has touch, a brain and imagination, a trinity sadly missing from the other water carriers we have in midfield.

Also, I see from your earlier post that you’ve Charlie Mulgrew playing in the centre of defence with Kelvin Wilson and again, it’s where I’d play him. We need him for his ball delivery at set pieces but he’s a liberty when playing left-midfield where he lacks, shall we be kind and say the acumen.

Where we differ though is Hooper/Watt selection where I favour Hooper. In Moscow Hooper had a tremendous game and I always favour horses -for courses and Hooper definitely has the drop on the Spartak defence.

  19. Personally don’t think the HMRC appeal is that relevant they were deed before the first tier decision, and they’ll be deed when the outcome of the appeal is known, and legal precedent will have been created.

The media celebrated prematurely on behalf of and in union with the deed club, and if the appeal is successful, it’ll be the same as it is just now i.e. Deed Club.

On the other hand and much more importantly Deed Club have a much more important date

    in the Sevconian calendar.

Maybe Jabba is going to be the anchorman on Sevco TV – pretty apt as he will be thrown overboard with the rats when SS Sevco runs aground

  21. How long will the UTT appeal take?

I stand by my theory – the three ‘clever judges’ (copyright Brogan Rogan etc) in finding in favour (kind of) of Rangers FC left an open goal for the appeal to protect their personal safety.

The UTT I think will have no such qualms and no options.

Regarding your post at 16:29, I went back to 16:17 and immediately stopped at Kojo (who posted at 16:17), thinking it was him you were on about.

Mind you, it was an easy mistake to make.
