Historic Kazak win, view from Russia

1082

Celtic were not the only seeds to get a bloody nose in this week’s Champions League play-off round first leg games.  Lyon and Real Sociedad looked well matched before the game but Lyon’s 0-2 home defeat suggests the seeds were outclassed.

Austria Vienna were the team I wanted this round but despite indifferent domestic form they upset the odds and beat Dinamo Zagreb 0-2 in Croatia.  Perhaps the biggest surprise was Schalke’s 1-1 home draw with Poak Salonika.

Our defeat was, apparently, an historic sporting occasion for a country who are only a decade or so into their relationship with the game.  Kazak prime minister, Serik Akhmetov, went into the home dressing room after the game on Tuesday to congratulate Shakhter and bask in the fruits of his sports development policies, but I hear there is trepidation ahead of their trip to Glasgow.

Top Russian TV analyst, Vasily Utkin, predicted, “Celtic will solve all the problems before second game, they will learn what mistakes they did in Astana and they will show their real power. If this happens I’m pretty sure Celtic will go through.

“In the previous round Shakhter beat Albanian champions Skenderbeu 3-0 but in Albania they were down 3-0.  They are the team whose emotions are very important.  If Celtic start the game well at Celtic Park, with all their songs from the stands and support given by their fans, the players from Karaganda may start the game on their knees.

“Their only chance will be on the counter attack.  Whether this will be productive is the question for Celtic.  A goal for Shakhter would complicate Celtic’s situation.

“I see Celtic reaching the Champions League group games. They are Champions League quality. Whatever Shakhter will do they are not Champions League quality, at least not yet.”

“This… is a question for Celtic” is the key phrase.  Champions League qualification is in our own hands.  Beat Shakhter Karagandy by more than 2-0 at home is as good an offer as anyone will get to qualify for the Champions League.

Can we have clear statement regarding T/Cs of GB readmission

i.e what are they NOT allowed to do

    before Saturday??

This would clear up situation so that they and their apologists cannot play the ignorance card after they return to their old ways and disregard the same standards of behaviour which apply to the rest of us while at CP

Im sure the directors box would quickly relocate to captains table in the north stand..

  3. This i bearing resemblence as the first season. Starting from scratch and rebuilding team.

Europa league might be just our level until we regroup and build.

Still reckon we will go though in the cl mind you.

    Right selection of players key.

Meaning no Forrest or Sammy up as striker.

  4. All this talk about strikers ,I keep thinking back about PL telling Kenny Miller to go ,as he would be 6th striker,I thought Lenny was the manager, what a mistake that was.

    Uncle Fester,

So you’ve upped the price to £7M now, no doubt you’ll be using that later to accuse people of demanding £7M players eh.

And you continue to perpetuate the myth that expensive players don’t want to play for Celtic, I can only assume that’s down to your lack of respect for my club. There are many like you who don’t respect my club enough to think we are good enough to attract quality players.

We are Celtic, only the board and their band of gibbering happy clappers are advertising your demands to reduce expectations, that will have an affect on players who want to join ambitious teams so its you lot who are basically telling players if your ambitious go elsewhere.

    I’d pay more to stand!

Through the winter its bliddy freezing sitting on your hands, in 111 its roasting hot with all the free aerobic stuff going on :¬)

Seriously I hate sitting, 7hrs on the bus or car than sitting down watching a footie match, its just naw right!

Dinnae be giving the Board ideas, personally, I’d rather stand myself. It is a game of fitba and I would think if standing areas were introduced, they would be the most popular sections. I would hope that this development would also add to the crowd capacity. Are we so G4S that we don’t trust the World acclaimed Celtic support in its own home?

    Get it done Celtic.

  8. Squire

Like the rest of us, you are not allowed to let off smoke bombs, exploding devices, move and dance in the passageway for lengthy periods of time (when a goal is scored it doesn’t count it’s only for about 20 secs) no crowd surfing, and no mock fighting, and no breaking seats, when it comes right down to it in general have a good time and enjoy themselves like the other 70 % of the stadium.

Not all class players are 22 or 23 years of age, there are several good strikers at the other end of the spectrum who would join us an do a turn too.

All I say is remember Lubo, and Strachan played in the EPL at 40.

Like I said to Barca, if what we seek can’t first escape myopia, well don’t be surprised if we don’t find.

The Green Brigade are pleased to announce that a positive outcome relating to Section 111 has been reached after constructive discussions with the Club. All relocations away from our block within Section 111 have now been reversed with all of those affected being returned to their original seat.

As always we must thank the Celtic support who once again rallied around our Group and section when it was needed. We would like to especially thank all fans within our block for their patience and resilience over the past few weeks as we tried to reach a positive conclusion. We are now satisfied that this has been achieved and look forward to returning to Celtic Park on Saturday to resume normal practice. Furthermore we look forward to working together with the Club on a project to introduce a Safe Standing section to Celtic Park.

Given relocations have already taken place – and the late nature in arriving at this conclusion – current/original season tickets will no longer be active. For Saturday’s match paper tickets will be issued for all within the block and will be distributed before the match. Tickets will be available for collection from 1pm at the ticket office behind the Superstore and will only be issued after presenting your 111 teamcard. We understand that this may be problematic however will strive to make the process as smooth as possible.

My dividend payments are as I dont take the cash, payment is reinvested in the club as additional shares and I am sure a lot of other shareholders do the same.

  14. Canamalar erm no. I sent my ST back over 2 weeks ago and I’ve heard nothing.

I asked for a full refund as I didnt want to be moved and hadn’t attended any of the games they cited. I’m sick of the constant GB/ supporter bashing and I’ve come to see a very big gap between my goals for success on the park and the aspirations of the plc board.

I’m going to pick and choose my games from now on, probably linked to visits to Scotland and overnight stays.

    Vmhan,

I suppose there will be quite a few who wouldn’t mind standing after a long journey sitting, but I’d bet after a year they’d be moaning about paying more when the don’t even have a seat :o)

Saying that I expect costs should be covered after a couple of years.

    Blantyrekev…,

Think you nailed it, the main stand is probably the only place easily converted and able to accommodate standing but i doubt the board would sanction plebs in their stand.

Swally made my day just when things were getting quiet. The fun just keeps on going. 100 names from his boys. Must include previous EBT’s then because they can’t have 20 players on the books , trialist included. It looks like they are still using media house to sack unwanted players. Thats sure to attract more kwality to the seconds.

Good to see CQN more positive. Big ask alright but by no means impossible to put a whole lot of goals past the Kazaks with the GB scaring the beejeez out of them.

  19. Canamalar,

I think you are bang out of order but you are entitled to your opinion so fair enough.

Celtic are MY Club as much as they are yours. I love the Club. I respect the Club. For you to say otherwise without having an idea of who I am and what Celtic means to me is nothing short of ridiculous.

You have your view of how the Club is being run and I have mine. I don’t think in any of my posts I have criticised anyone in the fashion you have for having a personal view.

I know we are Celtic and I know where we are at. Your expectations and ambitions for Celtic are obviously a lot different from my own.

Let’s leave it there, shall we?

  20. Vmhan….so youre a fan now and no longer a supporter. do you feel any different about yourself? Less of a mhan?

Just asking, often wondered what it would feel like afterwards. I mean to actually stop supporting Celtic by choice and simply become a fan. Sends a chill down my spine.

  22. Strikers, strikers.

If our main targets won’t come to Scotland or are being priced beyond the budget allocated for this window by our esteemed custodians, I’m not sure I see the point in bringing someone in on loan.

If we qualify on Wednesday, things will change. Guys will want to come and the budget ought to be bigger. Everyone is a winner.

God forbid, but if we are to make do with the Europa League, my genuine preference would be to save up until January and try to sign a new, properly scouted striker.

Until then, and including in the Europa League, we might as well see if Bahrudin Atajic can step up and play him in the league. We might as well see if Tony Watt can make progress on his early promise. We might as well look among the even younger bhoys and see now if Paul McMullan’s natural ability to score goals will translate to the top team. Paul will be 18 in the course of this season (February).

It would be worth winning the league later and by a smaller margin to see what these lhads can do when it really matters.

  23. Pleased that the GB situation appears resolved.

Internal strife made public just gives ammo to our enemies.

Hope that the club will seriously look at safe standing area.

Still extremely miffed re lack of transfer activity, now Dylan to go in loan?

Blantyrekev..I think the original stadium construction was by Barr construction on a design and build type contract.

Not sure if any collateral warranties were involved- but if so any change to the”new” stadium structure would have to be done by them to ensure any long standing warranties remained in place.[if applicable]

I think it could be engineered but as always its the cost involved in doing so.HH
