Huge decision ahead for Neil Lennon

833

When they dispensed with Unai Emeri last weekend, Spartak Moscow brought to an end an experiment to bring sophistication to their team.  New caretaker manager, Valeriy Karpin, was manager immediately before Emeri, was also the man who appointed Emeri and stood over him as general manager of the club since moving from the dugout in the summer.

Karpin relies more on his strong, authoritative, personality than tactical innovation, which is likely to mean we face a more disciplined team in Glasgow next week that we faced in Moscow – there will be no brothel at the back.

My main concern is that the Kilmarnock/St Johnstone/Inverness tactics of defending solidly and taking their chances when going forward is perfectly suited for Karpin’s Spartak.  Against Benfica and Barcelona at home, Neil Lennon played it tight and incredibly tight respectively, which proved to be excellent decisions.  He has a huge call to make against Spartak, playing an adventurous game could leave us exposed.

This result is not to be taken for granted.

CQN Annual – perfect Christmas present

It was some comfort to see Celtic back on form last night, especially down the flanks, which were crucial in Moscow and could prove to be so again next week.  Hopefully the knocks and strains which have hampered the squad in recent weeks are beginning to fade ahead of our Christmas Cup Final.

  1. It must be about 140 days since Broon’s pythonesque performance on the front step at Ibrokes. That truly is something to celebrate.

Thinking it through though it would lead to the inconsistent position whereby they’d be a strictly limited songbook at home and a somewhat expended version for away trips. Now that would never do!

  13. Would like to see the return of the Green Brigade soon and sympathise with their predicament with regards to the BIB.Now that the cold weather is upon us would they consider killing two birds with one stone by adopting a faceless protest in which they could adorn balaclavas ski masks or burkkas to keep warm and ensure the less photogenic of the lads are not subjected to those peeler gentlemens unhealthy fetish of taking pics and video shots of young fellas……. The Hills have Eyes lol…….. suspect right enough the bobby crew state would cry paramilitary uniform but it would be some sight whilst sending a wee message to the powers that be that we dont like whats happening !

    Vogue,

I respect your comment & your Celtic credentials.

For me though, OUR Celtic will always be Glasgow Celtic.

There are many people who think that the name Celtic equally belongs to our Belfast brothers , so cruelly forced to disband when they could not be beaten on the field of play.

God bless the GREAT Belfast Celtic. They gave us a special gift in the shape of the legendary Charles Patrick Tully…. What memories that name evokes in my old head.

I will never cease to be grateful to them.

    No matter….

‘ We don’t care if we win, lose or draw,

Darn the hair do we care,

And the Glasgow Celtic will be there.’

    Re huns wearing green…

When working in barr&strouds years ago they were bought over by pilkington glass plc.

The company logo was similar to a Celtic cross and was to be worn on boiler suits and other forms of company clothing.

Many of thems refused to were the logo and ripped them off or covered it up with huns badges.

Warnings were handed out and thems accepted defeat.

Agree with the blog and concerns some seem to think the Moscow game is a given, the difference between Moscow and the recent home game blunders is the team will be motivated. Last night the team was motivated by critisism, the atmosphere and occasion.

Paul67 rightly points out it was good to see form down the flanks, if our wings dont work we are knakkered, more assists from the full backs last night, they have produced most assists this season. Stop them and the wingers and you stop Celtic.

Checked back and I make it theres been three assists from central midfielders this season.

    26 Compeditive games

    52 goals

    Assists from central midfield.

    Kayal – Hooper v Raith 25 Sept

    Brown – Hooper v Dundee 22 Sept

Ledley – Sam Sammi Samaras 8 August

Thats 5.7% of the goals created from two central midfielders, aye central midfield have scored quite a few but surely 5.7% is not enough. Its over cautious management to play with two non creative midfielders in the SPL. MON did it with Lambert and Lennon but had a Petrov or Lubo ahead of them, NL doesnt risk that. Thought this season might have seen a more relaxed entertaining approach given the lack of domestic pressure.

As far as I know Juan Roman Riquleme is still available for signing….

I work for a co with a green and white badge on our clothing. Been called a fenian bassa a few times … But always reckon its my handsome looks that give my allegiance away

  23. EN – perhaps the central midfielders score more when the opposition spend time trying to nullify our fullbacks/wide players.

  24. Estadio Nacional,

I agree we need to can afford a wee bit more offensive at home. I wonder if the European games are muddling the thinking re SPL home games. However we are in a great position and last night was great to watch.
