Huge decision ahead for Neil Lennon

833

When they dispensed with Unai Emeri last weekend, Spartak Moscow brought to an end an experiment to bring sophistication to their team.  New caretaker manager, Valeriy Karpin, was manager immediately before Emeri, was also the man who appointed Emeri and stood over him as general manager of the club since moving from the dugout in the summer.

Karpin relies more on his strong, authoritative, personality than tactical innovation, which is likely to mean we face a more disciplined team in Glasgow next week that we faced in Moscow – there will be no brothel at the back.

My main concern is that the Kilmarnock/St Johnstone/Inverness tactics of defending solidly and taking their chances when going forward is perfectly suited for Karpin’s Spartak.  Against Benfica and Barcelona at home, Neil Lennon played it tight and incredibly tight respectively, which proved to be excellent decisions.  He has a huge call to make against Spartak, playing an adventurous game could leave us exposed.

This result is not to be taken for granted.

CQN Annual – perfect Christmas present

It was some comfort to see Celtic back on form last night, especially down the flanks, which were crucial in Moscow and could prove to be so again next week.  Hopefully the knocks and strains which have hampered the squad in recent weeks are beginning to fade ahead of our Christmas Cup Final.

  1. I have never made a contribution to the son debate so let me make one now.

I have no evidence to support my view that EVERY following in Britain has fans who sing songs which offend others. As long as they are legal, comment is only made on particularly poor taste occasions (Munich, Hillsborough). In Scotland, the MSM are ALWAYS looking for any anti-Celtic story (if they don`t find anything, they just make something up).

My point? The Rules of Society do not apply in Scotland. If the away guys stop singing Irish songs, the MSM will try another tact so sing away, lads.

A bit rushed ….I am off to watch The Simpsons.

  2. Great result last night, and a special mention to our support, where would we be without them.Let the people sing.

  3. R*****s International? Is that for real? Is that because travelling to Elgin is the cloest they’ll get to foreign travel for decades?

Chunkles is a proper grandiose loonatik.

    Rascar..,

    Good enough for me,

Of course a Celtic supporter is allowed an opinion on what Celtic supporters sing, but IMO should not be using that opinion to justify or support censorship, n that’s what I’m reading.

BRILLIANT.. That’s it , we should celebrate Third Lanark anniversaries.. Show Sevcovian eejits how absurd they are!

    JPP-ON:

It may become a bit tedious with your insistence that any songs must pass a ‘the majority approve’ test.

Who’d you get to organise the permanent voting required?

  8. Strange that the song debate is about the songs sung by our fans last night- I thought the minis continued obsession with paedophillia was far more noteworthy- still why question a crowd of bigots taunting you about child abuse when you can complain about your own

  9. Considering how difficult it is to get to the last 16 of The CL, how then will it be possible for the Celtic haters to say it’s a freak result should we achieve such an amazing thing?

    But they will.

They never give us credit for anything even when it reflects well on their own country.

How mean-spirited, nasty and self-loathing are these peepil?

  10. I think we need mair soul music at Celtic games and a bit o punk widnae go amiss, ye can jump up and down to the auld punk numbers with negligible lateral movement, at 10 min intervals a break is taken where the rebels can be sung in memory of the 10.

    Chewin the fat CSC

  11. Stevie Lomas gets an eight game ban for abusing officials (that used to be a terrible thing here in Ecosse); the Brains trust on Shortbread feel he’s been treated unfairly; it’s an emotive game; unable to do his job etc

    “A bit harsh on Steve”

Lucky he’s not from N.Ireland or has red hair…oh wait a minute!

  12. good evening Bhoys and Ghirls,

I noticed something watching the game last night and confirmed it watching the

    highlights today.

It looks like at both of the free kicks which Fraser made incredible saves, there was a big gap in the wall and it looked as though it was meant to be that way.

I could see Kayal standing a foot or two away from the rest of the wall almost inviting a direct shot!!

Could it be that Fraser was that confident in saving anything he instructed the wall to be set up that way?

  14. We must have to be the hardest- to- please supporters in world football.

    We trailed by 15 points.

    We WON the league title.

We drew the toughest of European draws.

We are GUARANTEED European football in the New Year.

We are TOP of the SPL.

We are top of OUR football world.

We still have IDIOTS who want to criticise the great GLASGOW CELTIC.
