Huge decision ahead for Neil Lennon

833

When they dispensed with Unai Emeri last weekend, Spartak Moscow brought to an end an experiment to bring sophistication to their team.  New caretaker manager, Valeriy Karpin, was manager immediately before Emeri, was also the man who appointed Emeri and stood over him as general manager of the club since moving from the dugout in the summer.

Karpin relies more on his strong, authoritative, personality than tactical innovation, which is likely to mean we face a more disciplined team in Glasgow next week that we faced in Moscow – there will be no brothel at the back.

My main concern is that the Kilmarnock/St Johnstone/Inverness tactics of defending solidly and taking their chances when going forward is perfectly suited for Karpin’s Spartak.  Against Benfica and Barcelona at home, Neil Lennon played it tight and incredibly tight respectively, which proved to be excellent decisions.  He has a huge call to make against Spartak, playing an adventurous game could leave us exposed.

This result is not to be taken for granted.

CQN Annual – perfect Christmas present

It was some comfort to see Celtic back on form last night, especially down the flanks, which were crucial in Moscow and could prove to be so again next week.  Hopefully the knocks and strains which have hampered the squad in recent weeks are beginning to fade ahead of our Christmas Cup Final.

  1. Why are the songs debated above no longer heard at CP, only at away grounds? Celtic and Mr Lawwell in particular have done a tremendous amount of work in assuring that only “acceptable” songs be heard from the stands. Do the songsters think these rules only apply whilst at CP?

Do you make any financial contribution to Celtic, or only all the other SPL clubs?

  3. With regards to Kilbowie kelt’s blog about song and many, including Paul67 using the spanish correspondent’s compliment to FF’s splendid performance -The Great Wall Apt though it is,it hardly rolls off the tongue, lends itself etc Keeping things simple,as I like, may I suggest an easier “nickname” for the same which, before a penalty or after a great save, would reverberate around the stadium .

    CHI-NA, CHI-NA…………

Just a thought, better than arguements and insults among’st ourselves about certain songs.

    Thanks for updates,great result

  4. Mort,

Good to see you posting. Hope you and the better half and the wee one are all well. The voice of reason as ever. Part of the reason I don’t attend away games nowadays, apart from being an auld yin. is that I got fed up some time ago with some (often half cut) “characters” trying to force those around them to sing rebel songs. Struck me as hunnish behaviour. Sickened me to be honest. Hence why I only go to Celtic Park nowadays (although I can’t afford the away games tbh).

  5. It appears the evil eye has unleashed some of its orcs from Mordor on to CQN. I imagine they will get bored and head off soon.

I see we have a songs debate on the go.

Can’t win, you will never change anyones mind, ideas are so entrenched.

The majority are offended by us, they hate everything about us, they tell us what songs we can and can’t sing, cos they are offended, they won’t stop at songs, they will not stop till we are gone, that is their goal.

Bend over any more to them and your backs will break.

Offended by a few words FFS.

I am offended that they Invaded Ireland, Raped and Pillaged Ireland, Looted Ireland, Divided Ireland, Murdered Ireland’s people…..that offends me.

Just my opinion mind, free speach, take that away, nothing left.

Doff my cap to them, never, I would rather die.

Whenever Celtic lose, most on here say we were terrible. Whenever Celtic win, most on here say we were good. If we win by a few goals, especially away, then the predominant CQN view is that we were great. For me, a big, big factor in assessing our performance is on chances created.

JJ good point , there is often a small margin between winning and loosing , last night Hearts missed a good chance at 1-0 and we went on to score soon after and run out easy. On saturday against ICT both Kris and Nikel missed good chances before HT, both I would say easier than Lassads opening goal

  19. Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,

With a corncob pipe and a button nose

And two eyes made out of coal.

Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,

He was made of snow but the children

Know how he came to life one day.

There must have been some magic in that

    Old silk hat they found.

For when they placed it on his head

    He began to dance around.

    O, Frosty the snowman

Was alive as he could be,

And the children say he could laugh

And play just the same as you and me.

  21. THE EXILED TIM, DAVID PROWSE and others….

Many years ago I stood at the back of ‘The Jungle’ and sang all the songs in the repertoire with the rest of them, but in the year 2012 a lot of those songs are seen to be socially unacceptable. The point is not that people are not entitled to sing them, that is the individuals choice, rather the point is when and where they choose to sing them. I am all for freedom of speech, but not when it subjects others to words that may offend.

For some people to trot out the old “tradition” argument doesn’t wash any more either, the world has moved on, and to be honest it smacks of the nonsense you hear from the bowler-hat brigade every July.

Time to move on from the dark-ages bhoys and ghirls and leave ‘them’ to it.
