Improvements clear two weeks on from home Astra game

2373

It’s a bit frustrating being so close to qualification for the knock out stages last night before a momentary lapse cost us late in the game, but there were plenty of positives.  60 minutes into last month’s game at Celtic Park against Astra, taking four points from them looked very ambitious.  We played considerably better last night in the corresponding home game, or in the home game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Celtic are functioning better in midfield, while defensively they’re also looking solid.  We acknowledged some weeks ago that without Guidetti or Commons we would struggle to create and execute chances, and so it proved.

With Anthony Stokes also out the picture, Leigh Griffiths got the nod to replace Stefan Scepovic and instantly brought some drive to the forward line.  He was unfortunate that his ‘goal’ was disallowed for a debatable infringement, but he just brings the kind of purpose inside the box that we didn’t have until his arrival.

We’re now four games unbeaten in this competition, and we’re improving.  The evidence suggests that Salzburg have also improved since we took a point from them on match day one.  Last night’s result in Zagreb was impressive, but Salzburg will face their stiffest test of the group at Celtic Park.

Still fancy our chances of winning the group.

  1. Anyway, tomorrow I’d love to see Johansen pushed forward but behind a strike force of Guidetti and Griffiths.

Play Mulgrew and Brown in holding midfield and play McGregor on the left.

  2. Is this CQN a clique.? If someone says anything ant-Celtic , they are a Hun?

Delaney…… How does Naw sound to you. I support Celtic more than the next man.

So the football team that cheated its way to 23 trophies and diddled to the tune of a billion pounds, that had its company liquidated and basically went unpunished will be back soon to cheat us all again under the auspices of sport and a nice little earner for some.

I have been fighting against it and I have tried, as have many others, to make sure this cancer isnt reborn with its vanguard into Scottish society.

In my opinion Celtic could have done more to bury them but in retrospect I believe they colluded.

Anyway, point is the next time the orcs descend on parkhead smashing seats, singing filth, institutionally condoned cheating in all its multifarious forms and all that goes unpunished then as far as I am concerned..all of you can GIRFUY!

In my opinion, he will end up more “Barnes / Mowbray ” than

    O’neill , Strachan, Lennon…..

Time will tell……. Just my opinion.

The singer Grigor from that band Daimh was arrested one night last year for a minor breach of the peace….a comedy affair like the new progamme on Police Scotland…and would speak only Gaelic until his release the next morning.

  15. Just read Suttons blurb in the record.

    He’s on the button.

Chris Sutton alas did not cut it as a manager

Chris Sutton has had his problems too, recently being declared bankrupt.

-taking the shilling to have his words ghost written for a paper whose sales are declining, a paper who ferment anti Celtic feeling whilst ignoring fraud, spivery and lies at craig whytes big hoos.

    An Tearmann,

My Dad used to sing that song as we visited cousins in Connel near Oban.

    I believe it’s a Ballachulish song…where there was a ferry when I was young..and now there is a bridge.

If we missed the ferry …after 9PM or so, we’d have to go round the Loch…..taking us through the town of KinLochleven.. (the “Head of Lochleven).

Ballachulish…10 miles south of Fort William…or Maryburgh as it used to be called before King Billy built the fort.

Where the Chief of the Glencoe was too late to swear his oath of allegiance to the crown to avoid a treacherous massacre of his people.

Getting carried away now….but I hear it in this song.

  19. An tearmann

    Cheers for ur input..

What gives you or I more credibility than a Celtic minded ex player……eh…. Not a lot.

Slag Sutton all u want, …. He maybe never cut it as a manager, but my bet is, he still knows more about football than you…… So, if you don’t mind, I’d rather trust his opinion than yours…… Nae offence pal

Guidetti is the best striker we have.

In the Scottish premier league, surely we can afford t play with 2 strikers.

Personally I’d play Guidetti and Scepovic….. For what reason I don’t know….. People slag Scepovic, based on his performance against Astra…. I get the feeling the guy is a finisher…. And paired with Guidettii in Scotland, I think he would rack them up…..

Either that, Guidetti and Griffiths……. I like Griffiths… The bhoy is daft…. But he knows how to strike a ball

    Ruggy,

    I am not slagging Scepovic.

However it’s an absolute no brainer for me.

Griffiths has netted a phenomenal amount of goals for Hibs in a piss poor team and deserves a run in our team. He will bag goals galore in this Celtic team.
