Improvements clear two weeks on from home Astra game

2373

It’s a bit frustrating being so close to qualification for the knock out stages last night before a momentary lapse cost us late in the game, but there were plenty of positives.  60 minutes into last month’s game at Celtic Park against Astra, taking four points from them looked very ambitious.  We played considerably better last night in the corresponding home game, or in the home game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Celtic are functioning better in midfield, while defensively they’re also looking solid.  We acknowledged some weeks ago that without Guidetti or Commons we would struggle to create and execute chances, and so it proved.

With Anthony Stokes also out the picture, Leigh Griffiths got the nod to replace Stefan Scepovic and instantly brought some drive to the forward line.  He was unfortunate that his ‘goal’ was disallowed for a debatable infringement, but he just brings the kind of purpose inside the box that we didn’t have until his arrival.

We’re now four games unbeaten in this competition, and we’re improving.  The evidence suggests that Salzburg have also improved since we took a point from them on match day one.  Last night’s result in Zagreb was impressive, but Salzburg will face their stiffest test of the group at Celtic Park.

Still fancy our chances of winning the group.

As someone who sat on the wall on the back of Hayshed, which is what your Jungle has always been called in my family, from the age of 7 or 8, and then stood with my Dad in the middle when I was old enough to join him, I can happily say that the original habituees of the place would have as most of them served in the Armed Forces during World War 11.

  3. By birthright and by inclination I’m an unrepentant Fenian bassa. When I see a tap being laid for my club I ain’t gonna walk into it.

Parkhead….. Is bang on, however your choice of venue was out dated as the poppy back then was only for the remembrance of the two world wars, as a kid I was taken to. A few remembrance Sundays and they were chockablock with good tims remembering fallen comrades.

The poppy no longer represents this, it has become a jingoistic ritual in support of war.

What I’m saying is, he should be played from the start and, at the end of the game

RD should run onto the pitch and march him toward the Celtic fans like MO’N did with NFL.

I’m not interested in last season, this season is what has my attention at present.

While I feel Sutton has on occasion went overboard with his musings on Celtic, on this occasion he happens to be spot on. The weaknesses he highlighted have been discussed on here many times over the course of this season.

Just read suttons comments. It’s nothing different to what a lot of us fans are saying anyway.

Points away from home in Europe are always welcome but Astra are a pub side. Without commons, forrest and especially guidetti we will struggle against anybody to be honest.

Although some of his recent articles did seem a bit of a personal attack on ronny deila which I didn’t agree with.

Celtic are 5/6 the day. The best price we have ever been against any opposition in Scotland since that shower died a few years back.

Even the bookies can see it!lol

Aberdeen away will be a harder fixture that Astra away!

Today will see just how far we are progressing. Let’s get into the sheep and show them who’s boss. I’m going for 2-1 celtic.

Most who had not served (too young) during the war were conscripted after the war, these guys were my elders and I’d say 95% of then had the greatest respect for those who went through the real thing.

But as I said a lot has happened since then, it does not represent the same thing and I expect many would not be happy with what is now going on, these are the guys who are now in their late 70s & 80s, I know quite a few who now refuse to join the new jingoistic version.

  23. I’ve marched in memorial parades in Canada, but I’d never March in one in glasgow, there is an agenda and an ulterior motive in this city to grab the moral high ground on fallen heroes from our past, there will be Hippocrates in George’s Square today who only a few weeks ago where giving nazi salutes in that very same place, of that I will take no part.
