Improvements clear two weeks on from home Astra game

2373

It’s a bit frustrating being so close to qualification for the knock out stages last night before a momentary lapse cost us late in the game, but there were plenty of positives.  60 minutes into last month’s game at Celtic Park against Astra, taking four points from them looked very ambitious.  We played considerably better last night in the corresponding home game, or in the home game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Celtic are functioning better in midfield, while defensively they’re also looking solid.  We acknowledged some weeks ago that without Guidetti or Commons we would struggle to create and execute chances, and so it proved.

With Anthony Stokes also out the picture, Leigh Griffiths got the nod to replace Stefan Scepovic and instantly brought some drive to the forward line.  He was unfortunate that his ‘goal’ was disallowed for a debatable infringement, but he just brings the kind of purpose inside the box that we didn’t have until his arrival.

We’re now four games unbeaten in this competition, and we’re improving.  The evidence suggests that Salzburg have also improved since we took a point from them on match day one.  Last night’s result in Zagreb was impressive, but Salzburg will face their stiffest test of the group at Celtic Park.

Still fancy our chances of winning the group.

Thats good, heard about the Bulgarian fa asking for evidence but wasnt sure if celtic had.

Could be another embaressment for the sfa.. Hopefully anyway

What do you say when posters on here express their own, similar views? Does it makes a difference if one is paid and one isn’t?

    Just asking!

I would hope we would also be saying evidence is needed.

Suttons comments might be unpalatable to the CFC support

I have great difficulty in disagreeing with anything he has said thus far

  5. Dexter says PAY THE LIVING WAGE CELTIC PLC on

The scottish media try to exaggerate the ”powder keg’ atmosphere at Pittodrie every time we play there these days.

As regards Tonev and this particular game, we can take the wind from the sails of the Aberdeen management and fans by not selecting him. That is nothing to do with the alleged racist incident- simply on the basis of (lack of) form. He is, come what may, a passenger in this squad. That is unfortunate. But it is also true.

    Dexter,

I don’t entirely agree. Right now Tonev needs to feel he is supported by the Celtic manager & players (and the fans too). Not saying he should play, but I would not like to see him dropped from the squad just to spite Aberdeen.

What’s that catchy song we sometimes sing ~ oh yeah “You’ll Never Walk Alone”

  7. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

I’d give Tonev the last 15 minutes today, as both a GIRFUY and to see if he can get fired up

Again apologies for the late reply. Had to leave quickly last night, its very difficult getting a seat for the X Factor on our Rig. :-)

I agree some of the Huns have highjacked the Poppy, but that says more about them than any appeal. I have no wish to get into any Poppy debate ( especially since posting that my only contribution to any debate is whether Poppy our dog gets washed )

Unfortunately many things get highjacked on the alter of a cause, sometimes an undesirable cause. eg, the St George’s flag by facists.

Personally today I will be remembering, however essentially its up to each individual but I would like to reitterate what has previously been posted, to those who attend the game today, do not put Celtic in an embarrassing position

    HH to you.

Ref Tonev. I’d like to think I would see corroboration, no matter who was involved.??

Agree. The sheep forums are already discussing how to react to our non adherence of the minutes silence. The msm have written their front pages in advance. Dont give them what they want.

The only people who are allowed to call the brand into disrepute are the board

  12. What if….one day…..there was a Celtic hierarchy with cajones

who came oot with a statement that said….

“Our customers – out of respect for the appalling treatment of their ancestors – don’t have ‘any’ intention of showing ‘any’ respect for fallen British army. So, we wont be asking/forcing them to respect any minutes silence.”

But….the above wont happen so – only our rivers will run free.

    Can a river be kettled?

  13. Morning all. Brightish down here. Could go either way.

Hope it goes our way in Aberdeen.

    HT,

I tried to reply to you yesterday. I think I got lost in cyberspace. Anyway, give the Celtic a wee cheer from me. I think the last time I was at Pittodrie Cascarino was playing.

  14. I find it very interesting that the week before the Alex Tonev incident, when Boydyachenco made the forward head movement, with contact to an opossing player, with photographic and video evidence to prove it, they came out with a not proven verdict, they couldent say one way or the other if he meant it, so now in the Tonev V Logan situation, there is no photographic or video evidence, no witnesses NOTHING? And they come out ban the Celtic player for seven games as they have found him guilty on a probability, on a he said, no I didn’t from the two players, I’m missing something here right? Unless they have evidence and are holding it back to make the player and the club look silly? And that would be a very very dangerous road to go down, I smell a DOUGIE DOUGIE coming up?

Done a professional job no more no less, ffs did he accept a pay cut in all the time he was at Celtic ?

Off to church, then Blochairn market, then watch the game, busy busy.

    Be nice gentlemen.

    3 hours 15 and counting.

  17. Much as I like Biton, this for me is a day for Kayak and Mubarak in midfield together with Brown and Johansen. If Forrest is fit, I’d play him too, otherwise Griffiths supporting Guidetti. Tonev to come for last 15 mins when we are well ahead (hopefully).

  18. My friends in Celtic,

Our supporters are not customers. We are supporters.

Customers would ask for a refund for some dismal or unacceptable performances. Supporters do not.

To any sceptical supporters and I share their scepticism on some issues, I would remind them that our board are only current custodians of our club . We will still be there when they are long gone.

KevJungle, with the greatest respect : If you class yourself as a customer then ask for your money back———Oh wait a minute.

    HH.

  19. I have proper family reasons for honouring Remembrance Sunday. I have never worn the Poppy but I would ask the support not to give the smsm ammunition to attack our Club, which is what they lust.

  20. eddieinkirkmichael on

Just read the Sutton comments, tbh I don’thave a problem with anything he said. A very honest appraisal of what transpired on the pitch on thursday with some insight into where he sees our problems.

I really don’t see where he alledgedly puts the boot in, if we are now saying that you can’t analyse a performance and give an opinion on where, from your perspective, things are going wrong. Then really guys we are no better than Huns

  21. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Greenpinta,

Got to disagree, I expect the support will be long gone before this board are gone and there will be them and their customers, that is their goal.

  22. tonydonnelly67

    Agree.

Interesting also that he’s given 7 games for an unproven allegation while Goodwin gets only 3 matches for his ‘welcome to Scottish football’ elbow to the face for young Connolly of United.

(And before anyone questions how seriously I take racism…..probably MORE so than an elbow to the face. It’s the unproven aspect I’m highlighting)
