Inconsistency costs Celtic cups

1483

This time last year there was far too much talk about trebles on these pages.  Celtic were flying in all three competitions, having established a lead in the league, and were heading for a League Cup semi-final against Falkirk.  Falkirk were beaten but it took a late Anthony Stokes goal to make the game safe for Celtic.  The script was written; a final against Kilmarnock, who always bottled it against Celtic in Glasgow, and a successful run in the Scottish Cup was all that stood between us and the fourth treble in our history.

I’ve lost count of how many such trebles we’ve look forward to.  Football has a way of promising lots but it takes an exceptionally good and consistent team to win both cup competitions, as well as the league.  More often than not, great and dominant teams don’t win the treble.

Celtic are a great and exciting team but they have not been nearly consistent enough to win the treble this season.  We have lost two from eight home games and two from seven away.  Good enough to win the league but not to win two cups.

I watched a bit of St Mirren at home to Ross County before heading to Celtic Park last weekend.  They were far from impressive but no less so than when we beat them by seven goals in the SPL four years ago.  The following week the same team knocked us out of the Scottish Cup.

Sunday is one of the biggest games currently on the roster.  Raise your game, Celtic.

  1. went to the souther last night to visit wee charliebhoy, the result of his op made him look quite horrendous,as was expected.but back in my day(ahem)the head was shaved ,op done, stitched up,cleaned up and left to heal.charles was groggy but alert enough to drink through a straw and complain about the pain.when, after observing his black eyes and now yellowing complection,i observed that although his scar is from ear to ear his hair has only been cut an inch either side, leaving blood matted hair and stains on his neck and ears my concern as a father is quite natural, but his reaction when i inatvertantly said he looked like a zombie made me so proud i almost wept…….he is definately on his way back hh

If Spurs come in with an offer over £10M, Celtic really have to consider that.

When Gary is playing at his best he really is a CL player. My problem with him was he was inconsistent in the bread and butter games over the last couple of seasons, I’m guessing it is an age thing.

With the Juve game on the horizon there are a lot of players playing very well. These are tremendous days to be a Celtic supporter. It is indeed a shame that other Scotsmen and Women can’t experience Celtic Park on a Champions League night because the demand is far outstripping supply. I have been amazed to hear different fans comment about going to Celtic Park for European games to watch Jock’s Celtic.

He sure did. Which means their accounts the following year will undoubtedly show a colossal loss.

Have you seen the run on buying RIFC shares since yesterday morning?

    Very bizarre.

  4. Not sure if posted, but Neil saying that he is ” prepared for eventualities and bringing one or two in”.

The sum raised during the recent Sevco share issue will not impact one penny on profit.

Proceeds from the share issue provide capital to either: Invest in the infrastucture of the business; Or cover projected trading losses; Or some combination of both.

Profit (or loss) is simply what remains of the sales revenue after all costs have been accounted for. As Chuckles is projecting a loss this year, the business will be worth less at the end of the year than when he started, thus the need for the share issue to support the business.

Chuckles has a further issue in that he will find it difficult to borrow to support the business, and therefore, in a loss making business, is reliant on shareholders for cashflow.

Nobody will bid 10 mill for him.

His inconsistency had a lot to do with what bugera did to him, he really never recovered from that for quite a time, he seems to be over it now, and will go from strength to strength.

If we reach the window like we are now, it will have been a good one.

I don’t expect Gary to leave at this juncture.

If Celtic get to the Semi Finals of the CL I would expect both Victor and Gary to sign on again, long term.

There is great energy about this ANC game, get on for goals.

  8. TBB

    Agreed

However if the share issue is to be used for working capital ….they must be anticipating a cash low problem and an operating loss

Wonder how he’s going to fund the stadium regeneration :-))

  9. Green revealed “the club is trading at a loss” but will not make significant cuts.

“The normal way would be for a chief executive to take a knife and cut 25-30 per cent of the workforce,” he said.

“But that’s not the actions of a club that are moving and want to go forward.

“We will carry this loss because we want to keep the infrastructure. There won’t be losses next year and the business will grow and grow.”

On the same season ticket prices, no european football and no share issue?

Watching a wee bit of the World Bowls on BBC……….one guy wearing red & white the other green & white ………the bias is incredible

  11. The problem for the huns is that they can’t increase the ticket prices next season if they’re still in the lowest division in the league.

That’s why they’re so upset about the proposed reconstruction.

With a decent manager the Huns could negotiate the lower leagues with a fraction of the budget TFPLG has

IMO in trying to hold onto the players of value such as Naismith,Davis etc via the TUPE provisions they have ended up paying a fortune to moderate players who had SPL contracts

How high could Sevco bump up the ST going from the 4th to 3rd tier?

There has been one large sale of Rangers shares so far . could this have been Craig Whyte getting paid off. It could be more than coincidence if the seller was Blue Pitch or Margarita Holdings
