Two honourable defeats, away to Milan and at home to Barcelona, confirm that Celtic can compete at this level, but the two points which only just eluded us could prove crucial in determining qualification for the knock out stage. Barcelona and Milan are in the driving seat.
Two home wins, against Ajax and Milan, could change all this. If Celtic can achieve this, Ajax could still be on four points after playing (and beating) Celtic in Amsterdam, but will be odds against to reach six points with a visit to Milan and a home game against Barcelona to come. Milan bloodied Barcelona’s nose last season, but are not certain to take anything against the Catalans this time, although the outrageous decision which gifted them a draw last night suggests we cannot take anything for granted.
It’s possible that Milan could finish with seven points, which is not an unsurmountable target for Celtic. For now, we can ignore all the ‘what ifs’, the only thing that matters is facing Ajax at Celtic Park in three weeks. This is our cup final.
It has been said repeatedly since last night, but deserves repetition, Georgios Samaras’ performance was nothing short of incredible and stands comparison with any individual Celtic performance in Europe over the last 20 years.
Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk looked more every bit as secure as Efe and Kelvin a year ago. Efe can be particularly pleased with the way he recovered his form after shading last season.
Some months ago I heard a numpty on Radio 5 Live describe Fraser Forster as a ‘Match of the Day goalkeeper’, the implication being that he was more show than substance. Yet again Fraser demonstrated that he is by far the best goalkeeper in Britain. I couldn’t care less who in England is aware of this fact. I hear he released Neymar from his pocket late last night.
Adam Matthews and Mikal Lustig are a terrific right-side partnership but from the opening seconds they were taxed to the limit last night. The more they play at this level the better they’ll get.
Despite deserving more from Milan last night Ajax are in a state of flux at the moment. They will not travel to Glasgow with anything approaching confidence but it will still require out best performance of the season to overcome them.
Bring it on.

Was it the keeper Spink
A 92nd minute winner (probably) for Leverkusen. Thank you!
BRTH,
I had a similar experience talking to a Cardiff fan whilst renewing my car insurance.
The unfortunate aspect for me is that I have numerous upgrades and cover for my cover.
I suspect it is a very deliberate and clever sales strategy

Nope :O)
I see Scott Brown is publicly accepting responsibility for the red card against Barcelona.
Thank you Scott, for there was me thinking it was Peter Lawwell’s fault.
Seriously! Is this guy for real?

5live doing a little montage of FF saves .v. Hart’s mistakes tonight.
Media bandwagon looking for a change of GK.
Eleven Man City given a spanking tonight by the team who are probably the best on the planet, at the moment, closely followed by Barca.
Been unable to get online since last night and stupid ios7 on an I pad and dead phone due to leaving maps app going trying to find Babbity Bowsters. Eventually caught up with the grey brigade and others and had a trying to remember 2 names for everyone I met session. Great company and a good laugh with a few bevs and some nice food.
The game for me made me so proud of our team. Up until Bronnie’s rush of blood we seemed comfortable if lacking an attacking threat and when you consider what Bayern are doing to Man City we, Celtic did a far far better job than those prima donnas. Pity about the result. The Miki tribute on the big screen was really touching as is TBJs passed on message.
After the game I walked back into town to my hotel beside Central station and it was only 10 past 10, so I went for a couple of pints and to cut a long story slightly shorter ended up drinking Nigerian Guinness in an African restuarant with a load of african guys from Kenya, Ruwanda and other places. Really good guys. They had a signed pic of Big Vic up on the wall and the owner told me that VW came in for meals almost every day. Agreed to go back today for lunch but the door was still locked at about midday and I had a train home to catch. And to Kikinthenakas, Old Tim, Blantyre Tim, Paddy1888, celticrollercoaster and all of the other ghuys. Thanks for the initiation. Was a blast . Cannae wait to the next one.

Sorry bt and corkcelt
I missed your answers,…wouldn’t make a good replacement for crc as quizmaster !

BTW, you can tell who the huns are on CQN. Just check out the CQN predictor to see who predicted a Celtic defeat last night ;-). You know who you are! Me, I could never do that no matter the reward.
Pogmathonyahun
Predictor – not me!
Had 2-2 and Efe to score 1st goal @ 725/1 (+ anytime and draw @ 55/1).
Not even close. :-(
Pog
You are joking right ? Folk on here tipping a celtic defeat ? Seen it all now.

Tbj.
Aye shocking isn’t it o))

What I found alarming about the conviction of the Celtic supporter was ” The court heard that after being captured on the footage, season ticket holder Clark was arrested at a later date for the offence”.
I’m drawing the conclusion that the police are videoing supporters and concocting the most spurious of charges. What next will our impartial police force, hell bent on justifying their roles, attempt ? Breach of the Peace convictions for fans shouting.
Ridiculous ? But today a Celtic fan who made a gun gesture with a flag during a game against Rangers has been given a 12-month football banning order. He was captured on CCTV pointing the object and making a motion towards Rangers fans during the game at Celtic Park on 29 April 2012.
Looks like CQN Europa League for me, 20 pts down with 8 games to go!
Think you will get odds to 725/1 for me to qualify now :-)

ps wish I was drawn against Cowiebhoy, that would have been easy :-)

BROWN HAS JUST PUT CELTIC OUT OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. HIS FOUL LAST NIGHT AND HIS FOUL AGAINIST MILAN WHICH LEAD TO THEIR SECOND GOAL, WHEN IS HE GOING TO LEARN?
YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE !!
He will walk alone with support like yours.
Pog, I’m shocked at how many ghuys predicted Barca to win, some heavy, 0-3.
No names named tho.
But we know who they are:-)
BCW
They will try any avenue to increase prosecutions
Focus us an easy gig for those who work within it …either a Saturday game of football …..wee trip away in the CL ..
Or ..back to nightshift in the back streets if Glasgow
The craven Crown Office keep flogging this dead horse

Just sent you a Skype message but I can see no recent questions from yourself

CRC, almost as bad are those ‘Tims’ who put it down as as a draw!! ;-) Tainted points if you ask me.
