It’s not just about genius

“People don’t realise how hard he trains or how much he works at it” – Kieran Tierney, talking about Leigh Griffiths. Therein lies a story. One young player, who has worked enormously on his development, recognising the efforts of our other clear success story from this season.

Anyone who believes there is a consistency in the application at training of professional footballers is misinformed. Some are there early and/or stay late to work on their own. Some breeze in at the last minute and never hang around to run, lift or practice with a ball after formal training ends.

The club provides players with breakfast and lunch, but can’t monitor their evening meals or snacks. Or more. Some don’t need to be monitored, others do.

In three months we’ll watch thousands of dedicated athletes, swimmers and sportspeople of many disciplines, pretty much all who work on their development 24×365. Some live lives in the margin of early rises and hermit-like lifestyles. Most footballers live a different reality.

Things are changing at Celtic – and have been going on since before the Ronny era. Players like Kieran Tierney have been brought up to understand the importance of lifestyle and hard work. For years, young players’ attitude has been a major factor in determining if Celtic will retain their services.

Success is not just about inherent genius.

  1. Cheating the Celtic Support is unforgivable.

That gets me thinking. Is it ok to cheat the Celtic Support and not God?

    I get so emotional.

I’ve said a few Times to my Dad/Son that I never want to see Charlie Mulgrew play for Celtic again. My Dad being the amazing person he is, he just says the guy you don’t like played very well, My Son is always within earshot, Aidan does indeed say that Charlie plays well, as well.

I listen intently to both of them.

Hoping for a much improved performance against Hertz tomorrow and for 3 points. Our CB pairing better be up for it as they will be barged about by ahem physical players.

2 big Paul issues for me this morning

Paul 67 – your Blog and your agenda and I am grateful and respectful for it

However you indicated earlier that there may be a piece on how our club are managed (not just football) my interpretation of your comment was that you would breach the big subject of our CEO

I know that is a difficult bridge to cross because you are caught between a rock and a hard place – your audience want the debate and more importantly your view – but touching the subject closes doors and ends relationships that have and probably will in the future benefit CQN – its fast becoming The Elephant in the room

For what its worth I like hime as a CEO – But I want him to abdicate responsibility for buying players and let the Manager do it

As for the Manager – all speculation and a few facts – lead us to Paul Lambert !!!!

His time with us needs no explanation and I think his coaching badge is German ?? I think it was Colchester where he started brilliantly followed up with his very successful time at Norwich Villa could be described positively – he kept them in the premier league without ant money – or negatively boring football

If it is Paul Lambert I hope one of his “demands” is I decide on who comes and goes with the players

Sorry that I never got back to you last night, went to bed just after I posted. I made my shares available for Res 12 and I have also been in touch with JPT a few weeks back. Have to say that I was disappointed with the template type response from him though not entirely surprised. I have Celtic TV premium out here and I can tell you that it is anything but a premium service, some of the folks who work there are excellent but it must be a constant uphill task judging by the wall in the half hour before kick-off.

There are so many areas of the Celtic business that could be improved very easily but we seem to make an art form of making simple things difficult.

    Winning Captains,

I followed your ‘discussions’ with Neganon2 last night and you again hinted of big things to come, much as you did with your cryptic references to Karma around the time of the semi-final. One of the things that has caused great angst among much of the support is the secrecy and lack of communication between the club and the support, this nonsense sews deep mistrust.

I think if you have sound information, it should be shared with your fellow supporters and not dangled like an unreachable carrot, with the greatest respect.

  7. I’d be surprised if there’s any sizable clubs in Europe that don’t recruit their players using the same process as the one Celtic follows.

At least twice now you have been offered an audience with Peter Lawwell – ‘don’t worry Ted, they repeat those shows all the time’ eh… you continue to avoid this offer and pretend you didn’t see it.

You can’t ignore the offer indefinitely – you don’t even have to stand outside with a banner saying ‘down with this sort of thing’…

You say you wrote to Lawwell before and had no response – I have yet to see any evidence that this letter was sent.

As WC pointed out your modus operandi has been completely ineffective the whole time.

Now you have a chance to go straight to the source and raise your concerns, one by one. It would be great for the blog if you did and reported back.

But you won’t will you, because its easier to walk away and hope someone else will do it.

Whats the worst that can happen?

  10. I’m noticing Mash law team calling yesterday’s court hearing a victory as the SFA had to show them some Secret documents, claiming the SFA did not approve T GASL a director of the football club (the Rangers football club limited, the body which has membership with the SFA) but instead only proved him as a director of the clubs holding company (rangers international football club plc)

    And saying

“We find it astonishing that mr King talks and acts as if he runs Rangers, whilst at the same time his lawyers claims he is not a de facto director of The Rangers Football Club Limited”

In fairness to Negs,WC made a suggestion of writing to PL.

He said that he would be given a chance to air his grievances in person as though that was guaranteed.

I very much doubt that to be the case. And as Negs and others have already stated, previous attempts haven’t even elicited a reply, much less an offer to meet up in person.

Personally,I’d be worried about giving PL my address if I stayed in Scotland anyway(!)

You may doubt it, but unless NegAnon has the courage of his convictions we will never know?!

In the several rounds of correspondence he dodged the offer. He claims he wrote to Peter Lawwell and didn’t get any response…I would very much doubt it to be the case that the CEO is in the habit of ignoring this type of correspondence.

And then, having apparently not received a response, no further action was taken by NegAnon!

I notice he didn’t say when he wrote the letter to Peter Lawwell. Interesting when he clearly feels so strongly about the issues he raises on the blog that he never mentioned making any follow up on his submission.

I share your concern about secrecy and lack of communication. I accept that it is possibly unavoidable, but nevertheless the vast majority of us are like mushrooms.

A direct consequence of this is that supporters will jump to conclusions that may be widly off the mark or possibly more worryingly, they will just lose interest altogether.

    HH.

  15. I think there are very few, if anya Celtic Supporters anywhere in the world that ares happy with the present situation.

I do believe that some are over hyping the problems but I agree with Antipodean Red that the vacuum of information is certainly adding to the frustration.

Everyone hides behind confidentiality & the need to bide our time. I can understand that approach but every day I’m reading here, of great Celtic Supporters talking about walking away & their disenchantment with the situation.

this can’t go on indefinitely, the time has come for clear talking and not these frustrating hints & clues as if this was some global game of Cluedo.

  17. Traditionalist 88. Have I had an offer to speak directly to Peter Lawwell? Where? Of course I would take up such an offer.

    Where is it?

I have written to Celtic on several occasions. When I gave up my season book last year I wrote to PL. it was ignored. In fact they have all been ignored. Nothing has changed since then.

But I will take up an offer to speak to him directly. Where is it?

Our board are in hiding. They are showing no leadership, strategy or direction. They have been an abject failure and have wasted a once in several lifetimes opportunity to allow Celtic to escape from the mire of racism and bigotry. Financially their strategy has been calamitous.

It is clear that this isn’t just my view but the majority of the support. The most frightening aspect in all of this is the lack of our anger. Even I am not angry any more. Have the board broken our spirit? Maybe. Is that good for them. No quite the opposite. The disillusion and apathy spell a horrible end for Celtic.

As Paul likes to say. Nothing will ever be the same again.

  18. Communication/ response?

I sent a comprehensive document to the SPL some time ago suggesting a change of format for the league cup. I proposed a number of measures designed to achieve a number of things.

    1. Attract sponsorship

    2. Provide an early season boost to the lower league teams

    3. Provide Scottish sides with an enhanced opportunity in the European qualifiers

    4. Facilitate a winter break

There were a few other elements but that was the crux of it and included a group stage.

I sent the mail ( I forwarded my son Chris 1888 a copy at the time)

I requested a receipt acknowledgement, which they never supplied.

I heard nothing until Chris called and informed me some 7-8 months later that a new League Cup format was announced. It was not exactly as I suggested, and missed a few key elements, but the bones of it were as I suggested.

Plagiarism? Perhaps. Coincidence? Perhaps. It irks me all the same that I got no acknowledgement.

  19. Antipodean red. Hope you are well? Do you get the feeling we are reaching a horrible end game now?

  20. Just another day at CFC, who ever gets it, good luck to him, I don’t get to excited or worked up about it like many I know, but that’s what it’s all about, I’ll bide my time and see how he gets on who ever it is, still a league to be won as far as I’m concerned and I’m looking forward to tomorrow , I’v a feeling this one is going to be very very explosive, so bring it on, mon the hoops HH .

  22. Scottish FA criticise Ashley over ‘disingenuous’ King claims

    Grant Russell

    Grant Russell

    29 April 2016

MASH Holdings ended court action but claimed victory over documents being revealed.

War of words: The Scottish FA have hit back at Mike Ashley.

The Scottish Football Association has hit back at “unedifying comments” made by Mike Ashley over the governing body’s decision to deem Rangers chairman Dave King as a fit and proper person.

Ashley’s MASH Holdings Limited withdrew an application for a judicial review at the Court of Session on Thursday, having been given access to documents outlining why the businessman was given clearance.

Despite potentially having to pay the legal costs of the SFA and King, MASH hailed their court action as a victory, claiming the “secrecy” over the decision should now end.

The SFA have rubbished that claim, insisting they have been transparent throughout the process, and took issue with some of Ashley’s remarks.

“Ordinarily, we would be loath to respond to such a disingenuous statement but in the interests of transparency and accuracy, it should be made abundantly clear it was MASH who today chose to abandon their ill-founded litigation,” a spokesman said.

“We have been consistent all along that the process of determining Mr Dave King’s Fit and Proper request, submitted via an amendment to Rangers FC’s Official Return, was conducted in the correct and appropriate manner.

“Indeed, at the time, we outlined the unprecedented scale of the due diligence undertaken, befitting the complexities of the consideration placed before our Board.

“This was released to the media and stated that this diligence involved communication with the relevant authorities in South Africa and the United Kingdom.

“As part of the recent litigation process we elected – with the consent of Mr King – to provide certain confidential information expanding on our statement.

“There was never any obligation for us to do so and we were certainly never ‘forced’ to do so. This is a matter of fact and legal record.

“It is regrettable that we found ourselves in an unnecessary Judicial Review process in the first place: one that serves only to absorb Scottish football’s time, money and human resource which could otherwise have been utilised for the good of the game. The same applies to responding to these unedifying comments.”
