It’s not just about genius

“People don’t realise how hard he trains or how much he works at it” – Kieran Tierney, talking about Leigh Griffiths. Therein lies a story. One young player, who has worked enormously on his development, recognising the efforts of our other clear success story from this season.

Anyone who believes there is a consistency in the application at training of professional footballers is misinformed. Some are there early and/or stay late to work on their own. Some breeze in at the last minute and never hang around to run, lift or practice with a ball after formal training ends.

The club provides players with breakfast and lunch, but can’t monitor their evening meals or snacks. Or more. Some don’t need to be monitored, others do.

In three months we’ll watch thousands of dedicated athletes, swimmers and sportspeople of many disciplines, pretty much all who work on their development 24×365. Some live lives in the margin of early rises and hermit-like lifestyles. Most footballers live a different reality.

Things are changing at Celtic – and have been going on since before the Ronny era. Players like Kieran Tierney have been brought up to understand the importance of lifestyle and hard work. For years, young players’ attitude has been a major factor in determining if Celtic will retain their services.

Success is not just about inherent genius.

  2. Bobby. Like I said to Macjay Paul enjoys the fruit of a public blog. He should expect differing views. Paul has become every more selective in what he wishes to debate. Fine. But drop the lazy journalism bolloks. It’s lies.

Enjoyed one of the the comments under that video:

“What do you get when you play a Country Western song backwards? You get your truck back, you get your wife back, you get your job back, you get your dog back.”

    Enjoyed the song as well.

  5. It’s not about me Neg it’s about you. Your anger has taken you to a new place, you are expressing your opinions as facts and you are making very serious allegations about a man’s character & integrity.

To do this you need proof not just hearsay or your opinion, I doubt very much if you could prove this allegation beyond reasonable doubt.

If you can’t prove it then you shouldn’t say it.

I am not trying to get you into trouble, quite the opposite in fact. Take a step back, count to ten & say sorry.

BobM, I certainly wouldnt be ripping into the big chap. Now I could share a srory about the last time we swallied post Celtic matching, but he’s the kind of guy that if he wants the body never to be found, it wont be. I think he eats his victims between big slices of bread.

Write to Peter Lawwell and request a meeting. Tell him you are an ex- season ticket holder and you stopped because of the way the club is being run.

Report back and tell us all what happened.

I knew that the IT lie was just that but I checked anyway, so I know.

I then posted and asked for a retraction but that wasn’t forthcoming. Your refusal to withdraw a lie is hugely disappointing.

You play a valuable role on CQN as I have stated before and I know your comments are read and considered by many. You weaken your own status by peddling this insulting lie and refusing to retract it when asked to do so.

  9. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Bobby. I don’t know what those on charge will do.

I intend renewing and my son has his name down for the standing section.

I have no issue with those who won’t renew and understand the reasons why.

  10. I don’t think this current team is a shambles. There have been good signs and a lot of inconsistency for various reasons. Winning tough away matches on the back of thursday night games and travel back to scotland e.g.

We have been unlucky with injuries and lacked consistent selections.

Our manager has not learned the way we had hoped.

Our manager tried to instill professional attitudes to the team and perhaps expected too much too soon – you can’t change a culture overnight. Especially evident with the number of Scots in the team. Overall we all agreed with his philosophy and seeing fruits of that in development and youth.

Finally, imagine Martin O’Neil , Moyes, Lennon worked with the same group of players – do you think we would have gotten the same level of performance? don’t think so.

Finally Finally, Deila is correct about the energy levels – the whole of scotland expects celtic to win every game, win every treble, do well in europe. The media said so! without rangers , the edge just wasn’t there! this is also a factor!

  11. btw , there is a wee rumor that Ashley is talking with Celtic. I don’t know what about , sponsorship, investment………

  12. Corkcelt. Get me into trouble? Hilarious.

The old usual bastion of those who will not debate. Opinion not called opinion. Evidential proof. Corkcelt as I am often tol. This is a blog. Not a court of law. I will not say all of what I am about to say is opinion. Neither does anyone else. But it’s become a tiresome cqn ritual to attempt to stop debate like this. It’s petty, pathetic and predictable (the 3 ps).

As for serious allegation. What that Paul is in thrall and beholden to the board? That’s not serious. Just patently true.

Winnings I have no idea what the so called IT lie is but it wasn’t mine. So why are you making it mine? I ask you again. What lie have I told? Have you made a mistake? What lie am I being asked to withdraw winnings?

As for writing to Lawwell I already have ( some time ago). Guess what? No response?

  13. A Ceiler Gonof Rust on

Neg2, you’re training your guns in the wrong direction. I know we’ve never seen eye to eye since you proved yourself to be niether trustworthy nor reliable but your attack on paul is a little bit off, and somewhat ironic.

    What have you done?

Written to Celtic? The SFA? The SPFL? The hun club?,your MP? your MSP? Anyone?

Did you sign up and pledge your shares to Resolution 12, did you sign and send the supporting mandate last month?

I’m curious to know what you did, other than depress those who understand what’s going on and have tried to do something other than repetative moaning on this blog.

Many of your points are valid and deserve support, but for an intelligent guy, you make them badly.

    No offence ya fandan.

    Peace on you.

  14. OK Neg, Have it your way. It has feck all to do with me.

I know you are a good Tim and I actually agree with quite a lot of what you post, what I cannot abide is your unrelenting Negativity. Even when you are on line during a Live Updates thread you cannot allow yourself to celebrate a Celtic goal with us your fellow Celtic fans.

That attitude I simply can’t understand.

I wouldn’t trust you as far as I could spit you, I see the same sentiment in your anti Celtic posts albeit I do agree with some of your points, however badly you make them.

  23. Mike Ashley wants Dave King ‘fit and proper’ reasons made public

Scottish FA called upon to make clear why it approved the Rangers chairman in May last year.

Clarity call: Dave King’s role as Rangers chairman is in the spotlight.

Clarity call: Dave King’s role as Rangers chairman is in the spotlight. SNS Group

Mike Ashley has called on the Scottish FA to publish in full its reasoning for deeming Rangers chairman Dave King a fit and proper person.

The businessman dropped his court bid to have the decision, made by the governing body last May, overturned through judicial review because of an error in law.

The Scottish FA provided full reasons, as well as supporting documentation, for allowing King to take up his role at Ibrox to Ashley’s MASH Holdings Limited on April 14, ahead of their court date.

Having reviewed the content, MASH say they believe it is in the “public interest” for the decision of the SFA’s board to allow the South African-based shareholder to take up his position at the club.

A spokesman for MASH told STV: “We are delighted that the wall of secrecy surrounding the SFA’s decision to declare Dave King a ‘fit and proper person’ is finally crumbling.

“As a result of legal action concluded today, the SFA has been forced to divulge documents in private to us that reveal the true reasons behind this controversial decision.

“This represents a significant victory for MASH and we believe there is a strong public interest in this information now also being made available by the SFA to all football fans.

“We therefore urge the SFA to come clean with the public about all its dealings in relation to Dave King.”

“MASH notes that the SFA did not approve Dave King to be a director of the football club (The Rangers Football Club Limited, the body which has membership of the SFA), but instead only approved him as a director of the club’s holding company (Rangers International Football Club plc).

“We find it astonishing that Mr King talks and acts as if he runs Rangers, whilst at the same time his lawyers claim he is not a de facto director of The Rangers Football Club Limited.”

King’s suitability was called into question by MASH because of his 41 convictions for contraventions of the Income Tax Act in South Africa.

At the Court of Session on Thursday, the Scottish FA’s counsel revealed that significant evidence had been gathered to establish the full facts of those convictions.

It was also stated by Roddy Dunlop QC that a “certificate of good standing” had been provided by the South African Revenue Service on King’s behalf.
